Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

"lol, no.

you are naive if you think Dimma would bail whilst also believing we can still reach finals

he said "I'm done" but he SAID "we're done"

patently obvious."

Your words if I'm not mistaken
The message is essentially the same to the players don’t you think?

I think the point (albeit a little indirect) is actions speak louder than words and say we can’t.

Eg If he knows lynch is fubar for the season etc.

Like I said, anyone who thinks Dimma quit because he knew we can't make finals knows absolutely nothing about the man.

He quit because he knew he couldn't take them any further, not because they couldn't take him any further.

He fits every criteria we are looking for in our new coach. And if I’m sprouting Leppa because of prior institutional knowledge then I can discount Mini.

The fact we know Ross Lyon tried to pinch him this year as part of his comeback crew is a positive. Heard Ross talk About him on MMM and he was glowing of him culturally and tactically.

It’s hard, it’s unlikely but Mini fits our wants and needs.

I'm quietly confident we might get a lift from Mini, although it may not be immediate. Perhaps over next 5/6 matches. I reckon he has some tweaks to the 'system' in mind. Time will tell.
Wouldn’t surprise me either , our side still looks pretty good

He does , the road test will be watched very closely

The gaps are never having control of his own team and he's only experienced RFC coaching environment.

A couple of decent experiences that would benefit him.

Saying that, Leysy has no doubt the club would love a succession from within.

i.e. If Kingsley missed out on the GWS job and was still with us, there's little doubt he would only need rubber stamped to take over.
Quite possibly only thing as I reckon he’s actually too close a clone to dimma , in 5 seconds it was dear that mini is diametrically diff personality I reckon that will help more than hinder his progress

Dud.

Clueless on selections

What sort of idiot picks Riewoldt, Ryan, Miller and Young on a day like today?

I can handle losing but geez still a reluctance to move the magnets. Throw Balta fwd or in the ruck… Rioli fwd… baker in the guts etc just something.

Someone should tell Mini that choosing the same players and running the same game style will get you the same results, otherwise he's going to coach himself out of a job.

poor calls made at selection and at game day. I’ll give him a mulligan. Hope he builds of this.

No press conference yet?
I imagine we will learn from this, and Port are a really good side.
There's a lot of positives.

I thought he did ok. 10 point loss to a Hot Port is a fair effort.

Coached well selected poorly I reckon the way he shifted the way we played in the 2nd q got us back in the game
Pickets on the ball worked for a little while

I thought he coached OK - that game started out like is was going to be a slaughter but he was able to raise our intensity for the last three qtrs and we matched it with them. Port are playing some very good footy and are an inform team.

Another close ish loss is becoming so frustrating- it shows we don’t have another gear to go to whereas Port did and that was the difference in the end.

We can’t kick a winning score with that forward line - it needs some serious work.

As I've put elsewhere, he was picked to maintain a game plan, not create a new one. Anyone who thinks he's here to tip things in his head in the middle of a season is in for more disappointment than our results.

Good chance to review his 1st game. I reckon he'll change things as we continue this season.

Hopefully a few changes made by McQualter for this week at the selection table.
If he wants the gig long term, he is going to put his stamp on the team pretty quickly.
Got to be bold, I reckon, from here on.
