Samson Ryan

Like most of his team mates he had a poor game but unlike some of his mates I’m not as worried about his performance. He’ll have games like that as a developing player. Many of the others don’t have that “developing” factor to fall back on.
Agree with that - at least he has ability to work with.

We changed our entire system to accommodate Nank. Ryan and Miller were finally building a connection after weeks of working in tandem. They provide mobility around the ground and make us look quicker across the ground.

Ryan was spending time on the bench, up forward and in the ruck. Zero continuity.

Why he was on the bench to start the game was illogical to me. Had to start in the goal square.

Yep. Nank in broke everything.

If he doesn’t learn to mark over his head and find more agility around the contest then his ceiling will be limited. I don’t mind him but to be honest - he was terrible last night.

If Samson Ryan was called Charlie Curnow he would have got 10 frees last night
Any defender that touches Curnow it’s an immediate free to Curnow

Is going ok for a monster who has played just 10 games, will be very hard to beat once he's put on 5kg's of muscle.

It's the effort and lack of jumping into packs last night that worries me. Not output. Input.

Must stop trying to take two-footed marks where he plants and reaches, jump into the contest, take it at the highest point.

My biggest disappointment yesterday by far.
After showing great signs (mostly in the ruck a few weeks ago) he's regressed the past two weeks since Nank has come back back into the team.
Really struggled to exert any influence yet again in slippery conditions. He looked weak in the contest, slow when the ball hit the ground & couldn't hold his marks apart from the goal he kicked which was in space. Was surprised not to see him subbed earlier than he was.
Like many I'm a fan of Samson but he's got a ways to go yet to prove he's going to be a long term option despite being our brightest hope.
Maybe he's just tired after a long band of snr footy? Maybe he feels a bit displaced since Toby came back?
I dunno but he's looked low on confidence the past two games. Hope he can turn it around cause we sure need youngers to improve to keep going forward.

Big fella has look tired the last few weeks , may have been the Cats game in which he seem to have a massive work load . Now Nanks back I’d like to see him play predominantly forward with Jack and get Miller out of there , dumb forwards make it harder for smart forwards just like Balta did when we tried him forward.

Like to see Jack push up the ground more and leave Ryan with a Dusty, Cumberland or Shai deep , then have Ryan give Nank the od spell in the ruck . Ryan is a massive cog for us going forward , if he can make the grade we will not have to give up high draft picks and big coin going forward to land another key forward

The bye will be welcomed by Ryan for sure

I saw him up close against the Eagles, and he was pretty beaten up

Must be fatigued because he played soft.
Agree. He now has a number of straight games under his belt. Going to our seconds, rebuild his confidence and comes back stronger.

I think this should be the pattern, give another tall an opportunity for a couple of game, then bring Ryan back if performing.

I did like Miller's game. He was involved in two to three scoring assist, kicked a goal himself, did ok in the ruck. I think his game last week in the seconds set him up for this game. He took the game on.

As we all know, love this guy and what he will bring to the club over the next decade.

But it's been a big 10 weeks for him and he's starting to feel the pinch.

Best now it's best he has a rest then a few games at VFL level.

He just doesn't quite have the core strength yet to hold his ground under the ball against stronger more experienced opponents.

That is starting to see him just want to bring it to ground (as opposed to marking it) or go one handed.

That will all come as he gets stronger, but a string of games at the lower level where he can clunk them again and get some confidence back is now best for Samson.

The overall trajectory still miles ahead of the curve in what is going to be a ripper career in Yellow and Black.

Am as excited to see that as ever!

Agree he needs a rest but is it no coincidence we've dropped since Nank came in and overtook ruck spot.

That was my biggest fear Nank coming back and Ryan displaced poor coaching for me him and Miller we're looking good together and what we do abandon it .The only reason he should be moved from that position is when given a rest.

I thought Sampilands was ripe for a management rest last week. But we hung him out. We've done that a few times already. Just hung him out when he was getting flogged or unsuited. And we all knew Ryan would be unsuited in the damp.

He gets a cuddle. Chop out. Support when forward. But. We let him get flogged and we weather it as best we can.

Draper is a different type of ruck but he has long struggled for perseverance. Essendon gave him plenty of chop out but hung him out for long periods in game and from game to game. Hung him out. Let him fail. Draper is only just maturing this year. But he still gets chopped out.

And Nick Bryan is far too good for the VFA. The Bombers will have to play him. They did last week. And they'll have to hang him out. Let him fail. Bleed from CB or around the ground.

TDK is a match loser at times. Carlton bleeds when he goes to CB. And he creates the wrong chaos when forward. (Harry can't even.) They hung him out late in 2022 and early 2023. They're doing it again. He was better last week. Almost good.

We may rest Samson Ryan this week. Or drop him. But if we persevere I'll be ok with it. We prove to Samson Ryan yet again that we have faith in him.

This is playing the kids.

Wow.
Didn't realise he's played 10 on the bounce.
Not sure how to manage the big guys going forward.

Once ball hits the ground in forward 50 we are witches hats.
Slower than slow. No small guy help.
One thing you can't take away from The Chaos merchant in George is Speed.
And as we know, Speed Kills.

Maybe a rest for Delilah this week. Then load up again.
