Richmond premiership star Bachar Houli has been airlifted back to Melbourne after being injured in a serious car crash near Canberra.
Houli is believed to have broken his pelvis and sustained several other fractures after a camping trip went wrong.

It is understood a ute Houli was in rolled over during the accident.

Three-time premiership star Houli retired at the end of 2021 with 232 games - including 26 at Essendon and 206 at Richmond.

He is believed to have been in the ute with a friend who was also seriously injured.

Houli was transported to a Canberra hospital but then airlifted back to Victoria for further treatment.

Richmond is aware of the incident but could not provide any details on Sunday night.

Houli has long spoken of his love of camping in remote areas where he hunts and fishes with friends. The third muslim to play AFL football, Houli has been an inspiration for young Australian Muslims and established the Bachar Houli Foundation in 2019.

Tired Good Night GIF

More awful news, but medically speaking it sounds as though he is not in a life threatening condition and will be fine in time.

Having said that they are significant injuries and he has a long, painful and difficult recovery ahead.

Fractured hips can be very serious injuries. Major arteries run through the hip and the prospect of internal bleeding is very serious

Got to bunker down now.

Has the possibility of derailing our season and our mindset.

Mini and the leaders got to be United, Strong and focus on Saturday night to not only win but to honour the contribution of Cotchin and support to the boys in question.

Mansell

Pickett ?

Houli now.

Sure can be.! Life threatening.
The report said he has been airlifted from the Canberra hospital to Melbourne for further treatment. I’m not sure if that’s good news or bad.

Good: he’s stable enough to make the flight and they sent him to Melbourne to be closer to family etc.

Bad: in a bad way and needed to get him to Melbourne for treatment in a bigger better more specialised hospital

Or is it somewhere in the middle? In any case I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery

Trust me, he's battered and broken and faces a long road back to whatever his new physical normal will be, but as things stand now he isn't going to die or anything close to that.

‘A long road back to whatever his physical normal will be’.

WTF are there no guarantees as to how well his bones will heal?
