Trade Talk Radio 2023

Tassie don't want a discarded Melbourne club, and who can blame them.

Merge them with Footscray - The North Western Bulldogs.

You know it makes sense.

DS
I prefer... The Northern Western Bulldangeroos

we need to get better.
What are we doing??
Make moves, try something,
Don't always have to go after big fish.
How we were sleeping while Collingwood got Shultz is a disgrace.
Carlton with Hollands.
Petty??
You mean panic trade?
Cos everyone else has trade fever?

Blair trades for needs, not activity for activities sake.
Our need is mids. TayTay is 30+ and sought out the Swans.
Gresham? Duuuuursma? etc No thanks.

"Don't always have to go after big fish"?
Jacob Koschitzke.

There's not many players going places that I wish we were involved in.
And Petty ain't going anywhere.

Depends, do you think we will compete next year?

Also, Soldo is out of contract next year, next year is his last opportunity to move to a club that will play him as first ruck, so IMO he either leaves this year or next. We will get a much better pick for him by trading him than what we will get from FA, so if we aren't contending, why would we hold a player that is essentially going to be played as depth?

I would expect us to play 2 KF's next year, Lynch plus 1 of Kosi / Balta depending on which plays forward and which back (add Gibcus if we think he gets over the hammies), so we then play a ruck and a forward / ruck which is where we will likely be playing Ryan next year, so Soldo wouldn't be played in our best 22.

I think the time to cash in is when his value is highest and thats this year.

BTW I don't think we'll be getting a pick in the 30's, it will either be Pick 24 or Freos 2nd rounder in 2024.
I think we will struggle to get out of the bottom 1/3, but will prosper over all through advances made by our younger, mostly untried players.
Expect Banks, Clarke, Cumberland, Ryan, Trezise and Young to really come on and hoping for Gibcus to get on well together with Brown, Miller and Sonsie.
If we are going to let a mature ruck go in anticipation of Ryan and Even Hale-Brown coming on I don’t think it should be Soldo!

I know you are inferring Nank but there is zero chance we trade our captain

My bigger concern is the lack of movement within our coaching ranks! We have had one addition in Newman and nothing else. Surely there needs to be a shake up in the coaching dept. We need greater intel and better development coaches

I must have missed something that suddenly soldo has become Len Thompson , Ryan seamlessly takes his role , seamlessly
Soldo is no Len Thompson but Ryan is miles behind Soldo. Ryan should just start trying to mark the ball with two hands in the air would help.

We just got a new head coach and you are concerned about lack of movement in our coaching ranks???????????

There are concerns but not in shaking up an already shaken up coaching panel

The club is dizzy.
It doesn't know if it is challenging or rebuilding .
Last year they go all in on 2 quality midfielders (Hardwick's last go) and fail to make the 8 and this year we are sitting still and waiting for a draft the experts are rating as a weak no depth draft.
At least try to move someone out.
We were the best side in the comp.

Was 2016 manic trading?
*smile* off Deledio and bring in 1 geniue star and 2 role players..11 months later we are premiers.
Have a look how weak at Collingwoods list.
Adding Hill McStay & Mitchell get then a flag.
You need to rejuvenate. Can't go into the next season we with the same best 22

Lambert moved into a midfield role ,so effectively takes Clarkes' spot. Newy takes Mini's spot.

Rutten, Teague, and Lonergan all contracted till the end of 2024.
Their 2024 output will decide whether their contracts are extended beyond 2024.

Most importantly we got a new coach and a new assistant in Newy that's a damn good start.

Sure, I too would've loved Bobby Hill at the time.
But unfortunately Bobby Hill's don't come around every year.
Last year we were very active - rightly or wrongly.
Did you love all that activity?
It's left us without any firepower in 2023.
2024 is a strong draft and next years picks shouldn't be frittered away.

So we'll see if these guys can step up because if they don't, likely 2-3 new assistants will be coming on board in 2025
I'm in the view assistant coaches are overrated.
Development and recruiting needs to be priority.
Lambert & Edwards Development coaches
Newman & Enright assistant coaches
Senior coach Adam Yze.
Football dept Boss Neil Balme

What can we offer Schult z? He is the scream out best pick for us. If we can Guzump Collingwood somehow....

The senior coach is but one piece in a big puzzle. These days the type of assistant and development coaches you have at a club can make or break you. Gone are the days where the senior coach ruled over all. Without proper hands around him it is impossible to succeed. Look at us in 2016 and the assistants that cane along. McRae has surrounded himself with some of the best and he lands a flag.
Club seems to have gone into hibernation. May well have to do with contracts but successfull clubs move people on if they feel they need to improve. We definitely need to improve!

Just for posterity Sam McClure says WCE will not take Harley Reid at pick 1:

“But The Age’s Sam McClure is adamant that the Eagles wouldn’t even pick the country Victorian product anyway.

“I wouldn’t do the deal if I’m North,” he said on Tradies.

“You’ve got two and three, right. Just say (to West Coast), ‘Pick him, go on. You’re not going to pick him, we don’t want it. We’re going to get him at two’.

“They’re not going to pick him. He doesn’t want to go there,” he went on to say.

“(North Melbourne) don’t need pick one, they’re going to get him at two.

I’m telling you, they’re not going to pick him.”

Then Reid himself goes bang!

“For the record, Reid himself was asked directly on SEN WA on Thursday morning whether he would like to go to the Eagles.

“I actually heard that one yesterday, it kinda rolled me,” Reid said of McClure’s comments.

“To all the West Coast people listening, I’m happy to go to the Eagles and grateful to be in the position I am.

“He obviously doesn’t really like me, I don’t think.”

When asked about the one thing that annoys him, Reid said: “Sam McClure”.
