I hope you kick a bag Jack.

"Jack Riewoldt set to play for Clarence in season 2024

Jack Riewoldt will return to local footy for at least one game in 2024 with an appearance for his former club locked in. Here’s what we know.

Jack Riewoldt’s return to Tasmanian footy is officially locked in.
Clarence has confirmed the recently retired three-time Richmond premiership star will play at least one TSL home game for the Roos during the 2024 season.

The exact date of the game being branded as “Jack is Back” will be confirmed when fixtures are released later this year.

“The Jack is Back game will be an opportunity for all Tasmanian footy fans to pay tribute to a local AFL legend who has made Tasmania proud over his 347 AFL game career at the Richmond Football Club,” Clarence said in a statement.

“This Jack is Back game is also an opportunity for Jack to recognise where his footy journey first began – running around Bellerive Oval as a young boy, supervised by his dad Chris, who was also a member of the great Riewoldt Clarence Football Club family.”

Clarence has also confirmed it will merge its two Roolander identities.

“The Clarence Junior Football Club and the Clarence District Football Club (seniors) will form one new legal entity called the Clarence Football Club (CFC),” the club said.

The Roos are also launching the Riewoldt Roolander Academy Program — a collaboration between the current players and coaches of both the senior and junior divisions of the CFC and the past players and coaches of the Roos.

Former premiership coach and club legend Grant Fagan will lead the program.

More to come."

Finished Jacks book and needless to say I loved it, prefer it to Trent’s book. More natural style that went a bit deeper than Trent’s IMO. Laughed at how he described Robbo saying a lot of players say they hate him and that he too didn’t like Robbo but once he got to know him on 360 he did come to like him as a “bogan who likes his footy”! He also said he didn’t like Mark Noclure but did after he also came to know him. Told a funny story how he gave out Noclures mobile number and people were ringing him when he was on air, Noclure found out Jack was giving out his number and told him to stop or it would become a legal matter.
Just finished his book now. Got an emotional lump in the throat a bit at the end. Lots of great, great memories of watching Jack do his thing for the yellow and black.

Interesting that a lot of the things we harped on about here about us versus the world, he and the team felt the same. You think that it’s all a bit unbalanced on here at times and we only see what we want to see but it was nice to know that in general the feelings on here were pretty spot on.

Anyway, thanks Jacky boy, great career and a great read! Loved every moment of both.

Are you saying TBR was wrong? We are not just a bunch of one eyed numpties? That it is possible that some of the team and coaches think Chris Scott is a nob? That the umpires do actually persecute us and the AFL have an anti Richmond agenda that players also see? Nah, Jack just hasn't worked in the industry long enough to have a clue.
Good read though, i concur.

Jack's comments about Chris Scott were some of my favourite in the book.

Credits Scott with the Cat's horrible mindset going into the 2017 QF, and with the Tiger's extra motivation and confidence going into the 2020 decider.

Aside from a swipe at Walls, Scott is about the only person he unequivocally whacks.

We're lucky Scott was at the helm during our dynasty.

Did he make reference to the GoDeez, I distinctly remember him saying he pretty much hated the Melbourne Footy Club.

Nothing of note. He has a lot of respect for other players.

He did mention that their premiership winning game plan was 'familiar', and that he was in bed before they put their hands on the cup in 2021.

Think Cotch also had a whack at Scott as well. He and Jack are singing from the same hymn book when it comes to Salty.

Just finished the book myself too. It was very well written. No co-author was mentioned so I was pleasantly surprised.

Clearly thought Scott disrespected us. Called a spade a spade.

Clearly going into 2017 he felt like all of us supporters that we were never going to win anything. I think the attitude and learning from all those close losses was fascinating and how he reflected that in 2022 so much of the team had changed that the learning of what to do had disipated.
2018 - the learning that you can't start too hot was interesting - but also that Dusty was cooked for the PF as was Astbury
2019 - the '6/10' final against St Kilda that was enough, the prelim and the leadership of Dusty as we came off the ground and the demolition in the GF.
2020 - how the hub pretty much saved our season by bringing us together - for everyone who says the cultural stuff doesn't matter, it clearly mattered to this group
2021 - we were mentally cooked
2022 - the almost season
2023 - the reflection that Dimma started talking about outcomes early in the season and went away from the journey - and that he even called this out to McQualter early on. Also he played the whole year with a groin - he never really looked like himself last year. No wonder.

It was put right at the end, but he went through all the injuries and surgeries he had been through to play all those games. Geez AFL is a brutal sport - it's been good to him for sure - but your body certainly pays a price.

Recommend it - takes you right through his life and love for family as well as all those demoralizing years when we sucked, the ones where we couldn't win an elimination final, the despair of 2016 and then what was to come.

I think also his reflection on what seeing posters of 2017, 2019 and 2020 plastered all over the walls might mean to a Jack Ross or Steely Green shows his growth. Hopefully Yze can come up with a way to respectfully move that stuff (maybe post Dusty?) to enable space for a new group to grow and not let that be a millstone. His words (Yze's) already pretty much indicate as much.

This is from Cotchins book. So clearly they players were well aware of what Scott was saying.

He knew he couldn't beat us on the park, so he went with the mental side. Trying to put us off using words.
This failed and failed badly and by the end of 2020 his own in Geelong where calling him out to shut up.
He has never had a team mentally strong enough to beat us.

Scott has never been able to over come the big Victorian clubs. Geelong as a club is fragile and weak.
(Take 2011 out of the equation, that was Thompson team)
Us, Hawthorn to lesser degree Collingwood.
Hawthorn bent Geelong over in 2008.
Scott had to wait for Sydney to make a GF to have any chance of beating them.
When Scott leaves Geelong this year or next. Geelong will be in a WC style rebuild

Did Jack say that Astbury and Justin were injured in the 2018 PF or ill?
Martin had a corked knee, Astbury spent time in hospital before the game with gastro I believe. It was reported in The Age at the time. It was also rumored that at least four other players were affected too and under normal circumstances probably wouldn’t have played.

Certainly adds layers to Hardwicks “*smile* happens” comment at the B&F that year.

And we were cooked coming into the last furlong..
We went to hard toooo early and peaked in July and tampered off by September.
The result against Footscary at the G in round 22 Shouldve rang alarm bells.

Yeah Martins knee was front page news before the game. Astbury was fairly well known and the others haven't been publicly confirmed but seem to be solid. I'm really happy that the club didn't go public but kept it in house.

On top of that we had come off the boil and the big yank had the game of his life.

Guess we may not have won 2019 and 2020 if this hadn't happened. Lambert's famous speech at the B&F may not have happened.

I read one excerpt of Cotchy's book and felt like it was authored by a teenager, and ghost written by a toddler.

Jack's book i picked up and didn't put down until I finished it. Finished in a day, so not overly dense, but a really insightful analysis of life, leadership and football.
