I haven't listened to Taylor Swift either, I sit here listening to a Stevie Wonder record. I just don't tend to go for her sort of music, but it is popular and speaks to a lot of people so I'm not going to judge. Different people find different music which speaks to them, I'm sure some people would cringe at some of my records, so be it. Good luck to Taylor, I figure she has talent.

HeadandShin, hmm, You can raise us all Oasis and I'll put them in the rubbish category, never did like them. The Beatles though, watch that Paul McCartney interview show on recently, he is so clearly massively talented and understanding of music, plus the Beatles output is just stunning. Hard to put many bands up against the Beatles, maybe I'll spin one of their records now.

DS
I’m with you on that, DS - just adore the Beatles. Fave current track - She said, She said. I like a bit of Oasis, but not mad on them. I chose them because I thought many on this thread would likely be fans, and bc their song lyrics are the epitome of meaninglessness where one line has no connection to the next (who the hell is Sally? Why does she only appear in the chorus? I don’t believe that anyone cares about you now - but surely the singer does, if she’s his Wonderwall - but what’s that? )

My good nature prevented me saying what I really think.

I grew up with Debbie Harry, Pat Benatar, and transitioned through Dolores O'Riordan, Kirsty MacColl, Chrissie Hynde, give me a woman of substance.
Dolores O’Riordan, Kirsty MacColl - what tragic losses, way too soon 😞

PRE's first openly trans poster? How do you feel about Dave Chappelle?

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to do that, Ezy - many wouldn’t. I’d suggest listening a few times, and letting yourself go with the flow, but of course, music is very much a matter of personal taste. As I type this, I’m listening to Andreas Scholl singing John Dowland (two faves of mine that would leave most people cold).

From the responses to my Taylor defence, I guess we’re all in an older demographic. Although you refer to 12yos as her audience, among my workmates I can see her appeal goes well into the 30s. Yes, mainly women - but that’s who she writes for. That 50-60 something male AFL fans don’t like her? Bet she’s crying all the way to the bank.

And the lyrics Red quoted - I actually like them. Heard in context of the rest of each song, and the Taylor fans’ universe, they’re spot-on. She often writes as a teenage girl (she was famous at 16, and prolific, so many of her famous songs are in that voice), and part of the appeal is that it’s so genuine! How delightfully childish is - You tell people I’m mad, I’ll tell them you’re gay? And your quote from “Mean” made me smile. Imagine you’re 18 and a boy’s done you wrong, listen to that and you’ll feel glee. And Cory with his jungle eyes and radio smile? I know exactly what that means. She articulates a feeling that chimes with her audience. (Ezy, don’t you feel the evil of “Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend”?)

And I see your “Cory’s eyes are like a jungle” and raise you “Nah Nah Nah, Hey Jude”, “You’re my Wonderwall”, “I jumped across for you, cos you were all Yellow”. Crap writing by talentless bands, surely 😊

Haha you prosecute a good case h&s.

Yeah im well past my prime, and i know ms swift isnt singing to me

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think Jackie Lambie is a bit hot.

And I know when im wrong.

And yeah lyrics have to fit your locks

the Pigrim brothers sing a line something like 'heaven and hell are fancy words for here and now'

I wonder if ms swift sang that in knee-high diamond boots with 100,000 teenage girls fainting if id like it?

Its not different to getting karma in your hair on the weekend i spose?

I dunno?

Not wanting to derail the Swifty thread or discussions about the merits of a Toyota Camry, I’m still interested to know if the C&C is on or not for next Saturday.
I’m a big fan of the C&C, it’s where I’ve met many of the fine people on PRE. I’d be more than happy to attend next Saturday. Need to check in with @Mr Brightside .

One of the writers of Get Schwifty is a known paedophile.

Taylor Swift is the daughter of a known billionaire.

In each case the art and the artist are different matters.

Billionaires. Paedophiles. The AFL. What genius can nuance the evil of this trilogy of terror?

And that brings us back to football. And pubs. And that third thing...

Nata , Botswana
Doesn't her world Tour hit Botswana?
It’s interesting that she is not very popular here. The biggest artist in this area for the past few years has been Makhadzi. She would attract 20 times more people to a show here than Taylor (people here love dancing to beats and amapiano music).

I wonder why Taylor is not performing in Nata BW ( pop 11000 ). I could be her DJ and lend her my sound system ;) . Maybe we would get 20 people to show up… if we were lucky.

I hope the Cognac & Caviar event will be as fun as this Makhadzi video.

Hmm, not really my style of music but I liked some of the guitar phrasing at the end, sounded reminiscent of Thomas Mapfumo who I like.

I'll have to see if I can get to this, not sure if we have anything on next weekend.

Me too Billy.

I plan on being in Melbourne for 3 days (all going well). Need to visit a very ill sister in Ballarat. I also thought I'd try and get to the scratch match against Melbourne on the Sunday.

I'm keen to have a catch up with any of the rascals on here but need to get an idea if any are actually going to turn up.

So who's interested?
