Tasmania

121,000 founding members and counting. Amazing

the foundation members get their names on the new stadium

the Devikls Director Kath McCann said

'it looks like it will be pretty small font' :rotfl1

I think Tassie are rallying an army,

hopefully to tell Dillion to get *smile* on the Stadium

go Tassie!

The powers that be at the Devils will have a good argument to not having to put a roof on the new stadium. All they have to say is we have got a 121,000 + members, we are going to need to build a bigger stadium. Putting a roof on the stadium will cost a motza.

****** roof on the stadium, Sydney gets more rain Hobart.

It’s not about the rain. Where the proposed location is, is right on the Derwent River. Very very exposed. In Winter the wind chill factor will make it Artic-like.

And then you also have to schedule games, concerts etc at night. It’ll be hard to get people to a night game at Macquarie Point in the middle of Winter if it’s not enclosed. You’re talking about 5 to 6 degrees before wind chill. On a good night !

I hope they build something with a roof like Marvel, plenty of space for the future and perfect for football, cricket, soccer and concerts.

Ha! Tassie is too small to host its own team.
While the AFL pour 40million plus in to GWS and GC each year to keep them going

coldest night ever at footy was at Bellerive… the debacle v North 2016

Hmm, 120,000 members. I know it is a cheap membership and they are just fund raising really, but time to re-think the stadium and get a capacity of 50,000.

I don't understand the AFL's arguments about needing a you beaut, gold plated stadium when they are happy to play matches at Norwood, Mount Barker, Ballarat, the Bowling Alley, Darwin etc.

If it has been perfectly fine for Hawthorn and North to regularly play games at existing Tassie grounds why isn't that good enough for the new team?

And seeing as the NRL played in Vegas, keep an eye out for an AFL Round -1 (before Round 0) to be held in Butt%*@& Idaho

That’s the thing DFT. I’ve spoken to a lot of Tasmanians, many who still live in Tasmania and they’re not about to swap teams after generational support for their existing AFL teams. In actual fact I’m yet to meet one that actually wants the stadium as they’re all very concerned about lack of housing and health care as more pressing requirements. They may go to some of the bigger games but how many of us go watch our second favourite teams play? I don’t personally but then again I don’t watch them on tv either.
Richmond or bust for me.
Same was said about West Coast.

NO doubt most would keep their old team. And i'd guess most locals would go see their old afl team (a home home game between Richmond and Tassie for example)
But all would watch Tassie each week on tele. Building up the support.
One generation in and most would support Tassie.
Much quicker to success than NSW and QLD teams

Because they’re one offs McGraw you pesky gun slinging colt.

We’re talking about a proper home for a fully fledged AFL team here that’s gonna attract 30,000 or so each game, with supporting infrastructure and precinct involved.

The existing pissant, suburban grounds are not fit for purpose in that regard.

I get the arguments,

and I'm in the build a stadium camp, although 26k capacity seems bizarre too me?

but it should be the Tassie and Fed govt deciding, not the AFL extorting.

I find the unfettered power and gormlessness of the pricks astounding

Dillon was very quick to reiterate the stadium

'yeah 120,000 members amazing, great. but they've got to build the Macquarie point stadium'

I reckon hes shitting himself a bit.

Tassie 5 times as many members in a day as Gold Coast assemble in 13 years., and GC have cheap junk memberships - $30 baby, $50 NT etc.

although GC sell memberships through Ticketmaster, so maybe they had 100k trying to buy them and got queued and looped and crashed, and went and bought a Tassie one?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. tick that off AFL

Fair point, Redders.

I haven't had the pleasure of attending either "pissant, suburban grounds" :) so I'm guided by the wisdom of PRE.

That said, I can't stand the AFL and their dictatorial ways  so I'm cheering Tassie and the AFL can GAGF!

I have family in Queensland who barrack for Richmond but are Lions members and go to their games. That's not that unusual

everyone has different notions of unusual.

I'd rank it about as unusual as running two sets of wives and kids concurrently, that are oblivious to each other.
