2024 Draft Thread

His father is a QC and often represents Carlton players at the tribunal. We might be able to get him on board if we draft Harry. He shows a lot of potential as a key back.
Thought Carlton board member and QC Chris Townshend represented most Carlton players?

He's talented ,and would make a good CHB,which we need to develop ,among other things.

Sam Lalor injured not expected back until round 5-7,,,,Jonty Faull injured might be back in time for the Champs,,Flynn Penry out until maybe around the end of the season, foot injury which is not good, but at least he has time on his side.

That’s a pity, they are two players I was keen to follow closely

Then how do we explain the current recruitment issues?
Most likely it was the list requirements as defined by Blair but even that doesn’t make sense with Brown over JVR.
It’s an inexact science but we do seem to make the wrong decisions a fair bit

Whats Lalor done? Heard Sid Draper has shin splits as well, will miss six weeks.

Rightly or wrongly, our club takes best available over list requirements it seems.
Clarke and his team rank every player from 1-100 and is on record saying that our first round pick is normally best available. Think there’s overlap but Blair’s more focused on recruiting players to fill list needs.
So think it’s Clarke who made the Brown call

What we sometimes forget is that JVR had a pretty ordinary season in his draft year. Our WA recruiter is well respected so I can only assume that he wasn’t pushing strongly for him either. I know both the Swans and Dees were very keen on Brown so we weren’t the only club that wanted him. Hindsight drafting is easy, not quite as straightforward at the time.

Apprantly we will trade out late picks to Carlton because they need points to get the Camporlae boys.

Possible
Our pick 4
Carlton's pick 14
Freos 1st pick 8 and 2nd rounder.

We could possibly have another 5 in 30.
But 4 picks under 20.

Deledio Tambling Polo Meyer & Pattison

Can't wait
Difference is we have full time recruiters now, instead of 1 bloke wearing 15 different hats all at once. Nail this Draft & we are away.

GC academy Leo Lombard 28 disposals, close to GC VFL best today.

VFL premiership at 16, 28 disposal mid VFL at 17.

He has to be in conversation for No.1 early this year?

hardly Reid and will Ashcroft didn't do that *smile*!!!

Watched Eastern v Oakleigh. It’s a small sample of 2 games but Oakleigh is a total shambles. Heard some concerning things from a parent and it centres around the dreadful preparation they have had compared to Sandy and Eastern. No game plan, self preservation looks to have already crept in. I wandered out to their 3/4 time huddle and the coach told them to attack the corridor as last desperate act to try and salvage what was a fair old belting. Of course it didn’t work.
Pretty ordinary stuff by Oakleigh

Disappointing to hear that. Any players catch your eye ?

Josh Smillie very good as were Eastern as a whole.
I was more focusing on Oakleigh. The lack of game style and zero connection between the lines made it tough going. The midfield which is stacked had minimal impact. Jagga Smith battled hard. Finn OSullivan very quiet 2 weeks in a row. The most obvious issue is the long bombs forward. Oakleigh have a very mobile but short forward line and they are giving themselves no chance to score let alone win.
Basically they are sabotaging themselves.
