Game Day vs St Kilda

Really it was one horrendous quarter - but it was reflective of where our worst is. Lost centre clearance & work rate/pressure dropped as highlighted by massive uncontested possession differential.

Balta & Lynch missing meant we were limited up forward and it couldn’t have been more stark. Lefau not AFL standard - sorry not up to it. Has no natural forward qualities - might be the nicest bloke in the world, but we need tall forwards who can present and provide contest as a minimum.

Kosi’s second half was better - presented at least, but when he relieved Nank, we had no tall forward who could compete. Made Wilkie look like Tom Stewart. With no talls to compete up forward and getting so badly beaten, it limited opportunities for the small forwards - both to score or create pressure.

We can all lament recruiting but for right here & now, we need to make do. Time to think of something else.

Look, I didn’t expect us to win so to go down by 1 goal sans Hopper, Grimes, Balta, Lynch, Baker, Prestia and Gibcus plus injuries to Trezise, Clarke, Bauer and Fawcett meaning we go in with inexperience like McAulife, Lefau, Sonsie, Young, Miller, Brown, Rioli and Mansell, I’ll take that effort.

You can *smile* your honourable losses.

We had this game and one qtr the 3rd we just coasted whilst Saints picked up the pace.

Lefau is not up to it seriously back to the reserves.
Sonsie who i like made crucial errors late in the last.
Mansell lol how many times did the ball just kick or handball to nowhere
Junior tried but overall was so so
Campbell who i also like made to many blunders

Kosi back to reserves does not work hard enough
A fair summary. We cannot go into a game with players who only play cameos

Shame we lost, but kids are getting games, gameplan looks good and our draft pick will be better.

Pickett omg way to many turnovers for my liking.
Not sure why Ryan is not getting a game ahead of Lefau

I thought we were ok up until half time, then our ball movement became scrappy as we couldn't control the game with marks, and then our ball use into 50 was awful.

I actually thought Kosi was quite good in the 1st half but was rubbish in the 2nd half. Got to good positions in the 1st, brought it to ground, took a few marks and got a goal, but his 2nd half was disappointing.

Lefau just doesn't end up doing enough IMO, maybe we need to play smaller. Pickett I thought was rubbish, even at the end there, Wilson had fumbled the ball, Pickett 1st man to the contest should have been able to touch the ball off the ground towards Rioli, but doesn't get near it and Wilson can scramble the ball away.

Still as we've said all year, this season is all about seeing what our kids have got. Campbell was good in spells but needs to tidy up some of his ball use, Brown is going to be very very good for us, MRJ is showing he can play at the level, as does Mansell. I think we have a KD for the next 5 years in Miller. Has been super impressive in that role this season.

Sonz - Not sure about, he has the skill, we all know about that, but some of his attempts at the ball were poor, that underground handball at the end looked a really poor choice on TV but maybe there was literally no-one inside 50.

McAuliffe looked good in the time he was on the ground.

Add Hopper to the list as well. Missing a lot out of the middle

Not having Balta OR Lynch is so evident kicking from opposition 40-50m. Kosi or Ryan just not providing the same level of contest.

On a side note we've been really missing D. Rioli's run today. Maybe the Oval size / shape.

Dusty has gone missing too.
Ryan wasn't selected.

Disappointing because St Kilda are rubbish, really, but we tried hard. Young players will have up and down performances. Ryan would have been handy today. Yes, yes, he has his limitations but he's tall, and can convert.

I was a bit the same but when the game is there to be won you got to win it. We *smile* that completely today.

Cumbo for Lefau and Ryan for Kosi for me. Need blokes with more long term upside getting games even if they aren't on fire at VFL level.

You saw Kosi's game completely different to mine. I thought he was good in the 1st half and rubbish in the 2nd.

I reckon the Tigers should just to take a risk and play a defender forward to negate at least one of the opposition key backs.

Then let Lefau run around as a half forward where he can pressure contests instead of get lead to the ball by defenders all day.

At least someone who can read the play and know where to go and where the ball is going to come in.

Stick Broad or Vlas up forward to negate a tall opposition back especially next week with McGovern and Barass will take 50 marks between em next week.

Grimes will be back in as will Baker, so Grimes cam go back with Tigger or Broad up forward.

Its worth a shot imo.

Vlas has shown himself handy up forward at times.

Couldnt be any worse than we were up front today.

Our backline has beeen pretty bloody good all things considered.

Although Yze was outchoached at times today was great to see him counter. Only reason we are in games this year is due to Yzes smarts.

Browne excellent. Bolton unbelievable; one of the best games I've seen him play. Dusty not vintage Dusty but still pretty good; kicking has gone off though. Nank a huge game. Maurice very good again.
