2021 Draft Thread

It looks like we are going tall in 2022 draft.
Really hope Gibcus could become a top kp forward ,he's already a steal at pick 9,but if he was to become Jacks replacement ,it could become the steal of the decade.
If not he will be a great back man anyway.

Banks is a good pick up ,although he is more your hb type at the moment ,needs to build up and could take a year or 2 to get more consistent.
Clarkes a good pick up,we do need goal kicking forwards, although l though the taller variety ,but he can play midfield as well, which is always good for a small forward.

Sonsie,l didn't have as high as some player's,,but they where gone, and he may turn out to be another absolute steal,he has the attributes to be very good,.
I think he needs to improve his gut running ,if he can do that, the skys the limit,,l reckon he might start his Afl career as a forward..

Brown is talented ,and he does suit that hb role, but will probably end up as a wing,as a few on here have said Geelong will be pissed off when he becomes a top player, the tiges may of done it again ala Rance to the West Coast.

Big year for quite a few of our mids next year, actually quite a few player's who are under the pump.

he had Alleer rated #9, Gibcus #15

i guess he was somewhat vindicated in his high ranking of Alleer and Sheldrick (#11). but he also had Uwhland in his top 20 who wasn't drafted at all, and Taylor at #12 (#44).

his assessment of our haul is utter garbage.

I think thats all we need to know about this guy then. Rates Aleer over Gibcus?? On what basis. "He can jump really high you know"

Just going back a couple of Doerres "power rankings", he had Blake Schlensog in August this year at 16. He had Matt Roberts at 4, Hugh Jackson at 17, Josh Browne at 18 (didn't get drafted).

If you go back a few months and see the swing and roundabouts he has on a month to month basis, it appears it is clear this guy has no idea what he is talking about.

Ask any recruiter, and I doubt their rankings will have changed much in the last 6 months.

D+ and A+ are a fair way apart! Big contrast with all other media discussion. Looking at it objectively, and in isolation though, his words don't match the rating. Talks us down a bit, but not D+ down.

No.

One of us should get the passcodes to the Rookie Draft and pretend we’re acting on behalf of a club that isn’t participating and won’t be showing up. And then make a heap of numptie selections on their behalf.

Are Cwood participating ? I could get in there and select Josh Jenkins and Irving Mosquito for them and Knightmare could write about how Cwood killed it.
Maybe we should do Richmond, and not pick Biggy

NORTH Melbourne is expected to take Jared Polec with the first pick in Friday's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

The classy midfielder will be one of at least 14 players returning to their former club as a rookie after being delisted.

Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Brisbane), Matthew Cottrell (Carlton), Lochie O'Brien (Carlton), Isaac Chugg (Collingwood), Connor Blakely (Fremantle), Mitch Crowden (Fremantle), Jez McLennan (Gold Coast), Rory Thompson (Gold Coast), Jacob Wehr (GWS Giants), Sam Mayes (Port Adelaide), Noah Cumberland (Richmond), Bigoa Byuon (Richmond) and Lewis Taylor (Sydney) were all delisted with the promise of returning to their clubs as rookies.

THE VERDICT Our say on your club's 2021 draft haul

Former Carlton big man Levi Casboult is expected to receive a lifeline by Gold Coast, but former Crow Tom Lynch hasn't nominated with the veteran likely to join North Melbourne during the pre-season supplemental period.

Gotta say, this is as excited about a crop of kids coming in as I've ever been.

I don't see any glaring weaknesses in any of the kids we grabbed. Brown is the only one I hold SOME reservations about (get a bit of Travis Casserley PTSD) the others I am super bullish on. Not all of them will turn into core players but geez I like our chances of getting at least 3 core players and one A grader out of this lot.

Not many times you can say that after winning 3 flags in 5 years. AND think you can win it next year.

Golden times. Bring on round 1.

Looking at the players we drafted and their attributes of elite speed, kicking and competitiveness I have this sneaky feeling the Hobbs talk was a smokescreen. His kicking isn’t great and he is a little slow.

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

On paper, Hobbs wouldn't have been a very Richmondy pick for the role of a starting 3 core midfielder at the quality of a Dion Prestia (which is what a Pick 7 would need to be, we wouldn't draft for depth at pick 7):

- slow
- limited as mostly an inside mid
- not super quick at pulling the trigger with the ball compared to other types
- good, but not especially dynamic with his hands
- one of his best traits is his high disposal quantity, but we're very dismissive of disposal quantity, our players are coached to impact with the touches they do get (compare Sheds with 20 vs a Jackson type with 30, or Cotchin 2016 vs Cotchin 2017)

Some clubs recruit for weight of ordinary numbers in controlled play, while other clubs recruit for players to give them creative, unpredictable, instinctive fast play on reflex. Our recruiting reflects the chaos vs control thing going on, and shows our departments are in sync.

People generally imagine contested midfielders as big-bodied, bustling bulls who win contests by running into the opponent and knocking them down because their body is bigger, but we've seen enough success with Bolton/Edwards types now along with a complete overhaul of position names and roles (we wouldn't recognise the terminology they use to describe what they're doing) that I think we might view the idea of a big, contested, inside midfielder as a thing that isn't a thing in our system. If that makes sense, lol.

Essendon have drafted Hobbs, and he might be a great player. But they also have a few staff trying to implement Richmond ideas into their club, and if the Hobbs pick isn't in sync with those efforts, then I can't help but doubt if their departments are all rowing in the same direction like ours are... but like anything after a draft, time will tell.

If clubs are going to do this, the Vfl will have a lot of talent running around next year.

What number are we giving The Sonz Casper ?
We give the newbies higher numbers, usually in the order we draft them, so I'll guess 28 for Gibbo, 30 for Browny (two nicknames you could set your crewcut to), 40 for The Sonz, 41 for Rob Banks, 42 for Jud's on Clarke, Pearce off.
