2024 Draft Thread

I'll preface this question by saying I know nothing about these kids, apart from a few Youtube highlights.

There seems a reluctance around Smillie. Why is that? Seems like a big bodied mid that moves well with decent skills. Tom Green Type?
Pleasing selection…

I heard a great solution to the bidding on Academy and Father Son selections.

The club the player is tied to nominates the position in the draft that they are willing to draft the player and if another club selects prior to that pick the player is theirs. For example, Brisbane nominates that they’re prepared to take Ashcroft at pick 2. As we had pick one we could take him and there’s nothing Brisbane could do about it. If we don’t pick him them Brisbane must take him at pick 2 and pay the associated cost.
It’s the best way to ensure clubs pay a fair price for their academy and f/son picks

'Recruiting for a premiership team'....well surely we aren't recruiting for a wooden spoon team 🤔
You recruit for a wooden spoon team first in order to get the picks to recruit for a premiership team - why do you think we drafted the likes of Dow and recruited Kosi? Big picture. :sneaky:

We have definitely gone for high risk high reward so only time will tell if we have got it wrong or not. However taking Tauru wouldn’t have improved the situation either, he also has a poor injury record over the last 2 years. He could also be classed as high risk high reward.
High risk high reward is scary and so bad for my blood pressure.
I mean , our hearts will be in our mouths watching Gibcus every time he goes near the ball.
Now it will be the same watching Hotton and Trainor.
Why is Blair and Co so indifferent to the health concerns of us older supporters, who suffered so much during that 37 year horror period?

No surprises but Arsendon apparently coming hard for our first pick tonight.

Naturally I death ride Essendon every week, but imagine doing it when there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow !

Good times !

The good thing is we don't need all of them to be hits, just 4 core players and we've had a successful draft. This approach could work, all the talent has an A grade ceiling, even Armstrong who possesses elite goal kicking. It's a ballsy approach but at least it's consistent, I guess we'll find out in 4 years whether or not such an approach was wise.

Did anyone hear of Levi Ashcrofts take on sliding to pick 5?
"You want to be the best and you want to be recognised as the best and I proved that this year as one of the best, if not the best. Hopefully I can continue to prove that next year."!

With head wobble like that, surely his nickname has to be "The Snipers Nightmare "

Francis wasn't hesitant to take talls even if some we're a bust he understood the spine was important unlike Clarke
He knows it's a numbers game too, one tall a year is all it takes, busts to be expected.
