Excellent. I love this Freegan idea. http://www.freegan.info/ Now these are idealists. ;D
Collectivism is all beer and skittles until it becomes Zionism. ;D

Yeah, T74, the theory is that the massive growth in human brains about a million or so years ago was due to the availability of meat and fish. No reason to doubt it.

BTW I'm not convinced that Singer's arguments, at least as I understood them twenty years ago ;D hold for fish.

But if you think that eating processed red meat is good for your brain, well, maybe you're eating too much red meat. Try fish heads. ;D

Fish heads are great for making soup out of. Batter up again my friend :)

Saw this today and thought it was appropriate for this thread:

Thoroughbred horse stabbed to death in its Sydney
January 11, 2008 07:52am
A POLICE investigation is underway after a thoroughbred horse was found dead after being stabbed in its paddock south of Sydney.
The horse's owner discovered the dead animal about 10pm yesterday in the paddock in Appin Road, Appin.
"The horse, a thoroughbred, was last seen by its owner at 3.30pm when it was fed and watered,'' police said in a statement today.
"The owner left the location and returned later in the evening to find the horse dead.''
The horse had suffered a single stab wound to its abdomen, and police have called for anyone with information to come forward.

Feedlots are a real concern of mine. Too little consideration is given to the animals' welfare. In winter they are in yards with mud up to their belly and in summer standing in 40 degree heat without a skerrick of shade. That must be so unpleasant, especially considering the very high protein diet they are on.

There's a lot of buck passing. The RSPCA don't want to know cos there are more than 5 head of cattle. The council and the EPA are more concerned about the rules and regulations in regard to numbers etc. The DPI are more concerned about actual sick animlas rather than their comfort.

The cattle are fed scrapings off factory floors, lollies, chocolate, flour, food that was declared unfir for human consupmtion because of contamination/machine breakdown etc. Many die a slow death because of wire and other metal being in the product.

Cattle are injected with growth hormone implants and interestingly we have no witholding period for consumption of the meat here whereas our advice is the chemical is banned overseas and we can't export beef that's been treated. Docile steers appendages grow and they try to mate anyhting in site. Not nice to see when they are in such a contained space.

Edit- I just went out to the shed to get a Growth Implant packet. In the precautions it says "Vaginal and rectal prolapse, increased bulling activity, high tailheads, sunken loins, ventral oedema and udder development may occur as side effects of treatment." ::)

Another thing that concerns me is the stand-off between PETA and the govt in regards to mulesing sheep. Both sides have their points but there needs to be some middle ground that considers the best interests of the animals.

maybe a better option than viagra for some people, as long as its for bulling and not just an increase in b.s. ;D

Keep eating feedlot meat and you never know what might happen. ;)

No disrespect intended to your good self Jack, but you need to listen to more philosphers then.
Careful on this thread evo. A true Cartesian would be roasted; a Descartes Sympathizer like yourself would get some sort of stoning (with rocks, not plants).
