ARC Appeal

Is it just me or is there a much larger uproar in the media about what happened to Adelaide compared to us last year?
Yes because this one was a blatant (and at least) double error. First call and then not following protocol and calling for ARC on tight decision. It’s just obviously wrong and pretty much everyone agreed.

Ours was a single error it appears of not following protocol. And you could argue that it went over the post on some parallax error angles - because there is no side angle that showed the ball - or at least one we were shown - like in this instance. There were plenty of people arguing both sides in this case.

Then we doubled down with our farcical 5 in the air for the spoil with no-one on the one defender goal we conceded.

They (AFL) actually BROKE their rule last year. Soft call goal. Then overrode without anything to support. Then subsequently crapped on afterwards about additional footage that they ( and no-one else) had, that to this day has still not been circulated to support their statement. Because there is no other footage.

I think, at present, we are still the only club to have a goal disallowed on a soft positive goal without footage to disprove.

In an elimination final too, the stakes could hardly be higher.

But, like with the complete botch they made last year, the AFL will now move the agenda on and assume we will forget about their abject incompetence.

They are scapegoating the one person who actually followed what he was supposed to do, the goal umpire called it as he saw it. But 4 field umpires failed to call for a review, how many of these f**ckwits do they need to put on the field before one of them has an IQ higher than their shoe size?

What a joke, complete farce.

What an absolute joke the AFL are. Lynch’s goal was reviewed for a very short time and umpires call was reversed. AFL’s rules were completely ignored. AFL come out with bs excuse. We wear it. Fn joke.
Crows decision not reviewed. AFL again f.. it up. Now crows want compensation. What an absolute mickeymouse competition we have.
Im out. Im giving up my AFL membership next season. I have completely lost my love of a once great game.

Perhaps the hitting of the post should be taken out of the game so if it goes over the line between goalposts it’s a goal regardless if it hits the post or not, play on if it bounces off post back into play, like most other sports. Hate rule changes but this would solve a lot of problems.

Glad they bought the goal review system in to clear everything up.

You know the first game this is in it will bounce off the post to a Carlton player 15m out directly in front.

Exactly David. The poor goal ump made a call and is now hung out to dry by the AFL. What a bunch of *smile*. There have been plenty of instances of the field umpires effectively calling for a review (ie not the goal umpire initiating it) based on player reactions, such as claiming touched off the boot or celebrating a goal that has been called a point. The field umpires have overall "control" of the game. That none of them thought to exercise this control in a one score game with 70 seconds left is mind-boggling. They should be the ones that are stood down, not the guy who made a decision. The field umpires make numerous outrageously wrong calls during a game yet they cannot even be questioned on their decisions let alone face termination for their mistakes. Hope the goal umpire sues the arse off the AFL for unfair dismissal. Although why would you want to work for an organisation that treats you like that?

The issue is leadership.

Should be looking in the mirror and disciplining the head of whoever is in charge of the rules.

Blind Freddy could run a risk assessment and identify this issue and change the protocols vs waiting until it happens.

Human error is human. You look to minimise it but need to acknowledge it is real and have processes that handle where the consequence of it being wrong is large.

Bunch of overpaid muppets.

For the past few years they have backed their umpires.

This year they told us of a shortage.

They hung the umpire and is the fall guy.

Look in the mirror AFL.

AFL is hanging a goal umpire, not field umpires. Goal umpires are dispensable.

Its pathetic. Cowards. But we should be grateful that McLachlan hung around to deal with it, between polo tournaments and exec bonusses.

It's quite shocking really. Leadership that very quickly turns into a toxic workplace where the best and brightest leave as soon as they find another gig.

The more I think about this the more the leadership hole screams at me.

They had the perfect opportunity after last years EF debacle to do a holistic review of the whole system engaging all stakeholders.

Instead they rode the Richmond has won enough / tall poppy syndrome sentiment to bury it and not deal with it.

Disgusting.

And they all got big pay rises.

Just classic way to not manage an incident so that it repeats. (Or at least an echo of it repeats).

AFL is NOT a learning organisation.

It really is just that. Zero responsibility taken by those in control of the process. It really is disgusting treatment of an employee. I hope the media do not let this go lightly.

I assume the goal umpire thought he saw it clearly hit the post, so signalled a point. Is the AFL suggesting he should have called for a review cos the Crows celebrated? Are all umps who make a mistake going to be booted? or just those that bring negative attention on the league?
