Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

I am currently reading "REX" my life by you know who.
Quite a good yarn, but not enough about his time in Yellow & Black.
Before that I read Running with Scissors by Augustin Borroughs.
Now THAT'S an eye opener. Any body out there read any of Borroughs???

Feel free to any of my spelling
Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

Yep evo.

Dave turned his habd to writing. his first book "The city of lights" was brilliant. Great crime story set in Perth.
He wrote a couple more general crime stuff, then developed a character about a retired guitarist, Lizard Zirk. Lizard solved mysteries. In the Miss Marple genre. Not a big fan of these.

I have just started to read a book called Hamlet's Mill, which is about the transmission of human knowledge through myth. Further information will need to await my completion of it.

Michael, no English authors!! Try:
Ian Rankin
Barry Maitland
Peter Robinson
Ruth Rendell
PD James
for starters.
Borders have an excellent crime section, you could spend a week there and not come up for breath.

Agree with most of those. Not familiar with Peter Robinson
Read a couple of v good crime stories from an English Author, cannot remember his name, but one book was called Berlin Noir, set in WW2. Brilliant.
Never heard of Peter Robinson, will investigate. Best crime bookshop - Kill City in Prahran. Borders kick arse when it come to American Crime.
Thanks for the leads

Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

Hi all

i am reading 'memo for a saner world' by senator bob brown. i purchased it on tuesday in hobart to read on the plane home. however i left in my backpack with all the cans of cascade pale ale that i bought at the brewery. one of the cans blew up in the plane and now the book is all brown and swollen and smells like stale beer. (sort of like me in midsummer!!)

anyways, when it dries out i'll finish it and provide the prenders with a review.

Regards

Cassady

Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

Have just finished a couple of books about Native Americans (NA) (Indians). Both are told from the viewpoint of the Native American:

1. Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee - the story of the drive west by European settlers, and the effects on NA culture, the broken promises and treaties, the lack of understanding of NA way of life etc etc. It is a really sad story.. The title is significant, as it effectively the place where they gave up.

2. Crazy Horse - A biography of the man who defeated Custer at Little Big Horn. He was a very honorable man, who was (probably) stabbed in the back by the US Army after surrendering. A great leader.

Border Crossing - Year 12 text - I was supposed to have read it by last period today but I only managed to read 60 pages and that was all during my free today. It's has been a very interesting read so far.

Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

My grandfather just lent me a first edition copy of "the twenty thousand thieves" by Eric Lambert. Good basic read and dedication about Tobruk. Has a few intersting views on fascism and communism threaded through it.
I'm going to get a couple of surviving "Rats" that I know to sign it and then return it to him.

Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

I love crime novels :hearton

I have recently discovered books by Christopher Brookmyre. Most of them are based in Glasgow so I just love em ;) but they are very good stories with a great mix of action, humour and suspense.

I thoroughly recommend them.

I also really enjoyed all of the Ian Rankin books. (There's a bit of a Scottish theme here)

I am about to start Ben Elton's Past Mortem, and that will be followed by the latest Nelson DeMille book.

Both are great authors.

Re: What Is Everyone Reading At the Moment?

Hey Michael,
Ahh Peter Temple he aint from NZ he lives in Ballarat and was born in South Africa, his Jack Irish novels are very good. If any one wants to read good Melbourne crime try him.
Peter Corris also is very good with 20 odd books under his belt , but too Sydney for Me
Da ve Warner- Mugs Game is a great LP and his writing is expectional, his crime novels even mirrored  some Perth murders 4-6 yrs ago..
My favorite at the moment is Karin Slaughter all her books are worth checking out..

Hi Cass,

I thought others were calling you witty and clever!

The megalomania can be fixed with Electro Convulsive Therapy.

I shall take your recommendation and borrow a James Lee Burke from my local library.
