Now is the time for Bouncers to be reigned in and to cut their gutless oportunistic acts of violence. I have seen too many times these roid raged booheads go too far and now Hookesy has paid the ultimate price.

A while ago I had 2 friends beaten up by these wankers on some *smile* stories they made up just to provoke them.
One received a broken jaw and the other lost his two front teeth. All done in the laneway behind what was then the Underground nightclub away from any witnesses of course.

I also once saw a poor bloke slip over on the dancefloor because someone spilt beer and as he was falling he grabbed a girl to try and steady himself and she screamed. Bouncers came from everywhere and dragged this poor guy off out a side door. when we left later we found him lying in the garden, his face all swollen and bloodied. He would have been no more that 70kg and from what I remember there were 5 bouncers involved.

Seems like things will never change unless there is tighter controls put in place. Maybe some good may come from David Hooke's death as it may make Pub and club owners think carefully about who they employ in the future. I hope the guy who did this rots in Jail!

I couldnt agree more Tiga. I have no time for bouncers and have seen many things that make me cringe. Fact is there should be nationwide controls and licensing of these people and extremely tough ones. These people are meant to protect patrons but a lot of times these jobs are filled by thugs just looking to beat up someone smaller than themselves. The fact that they go onto the street to continue and even provoke fights says that they should not be working in the industry and should have their license revoked permanently and have serious assualt charges brought against them. A code of conduct must be brought in and enforced and patrons must know their rights as well. I could go on with stories of things I have seen but I am starting to get angry just thinking about them. I hope Hookesy has a few big fans in the jail this prick gets sent to.... and the bastard was already up on assaualt charges from another incident. Something has to be done.

Your friends should have gone straight to the hospital tiga and received a medical report before calling the police.

Sounds like a very clear case of assault resulting in some very serious injuries. The fact there were no witnesses and it would have been your friends' version against the bouncers' shouldn't deter them.

It's amazing what witnesses are around (even in darkened alleyways) and there may already have been complaints regarding the bouncer's behaviour.

Also, the police would have to look at the matter closely given those injuries and if they didn't, that's what the Police Ombudsman and ultimately newspapers are there for.

I think some bouncers are great and some are scum (bit like police really). The bloke that allegedly went after Hookes sounds way out of line according to media reports & deserves some punishment.

However, just because of one incident I don't think the whole profession should be tarnished.

I'm sure for every shitty bouncer there has got to be at least 10 violent, pissed, shitty pub/club patrons.

I gotta say that in all the time I've been going to pubs/ clubs the worst trouble I've had is from pissed wankers.

Usually they want to pick a fight because they think you're checking out their girlfriend (you're not even facing her!) or because they just wanna fight (most probably that's the reason for the first complaint).

IMO, it's those fuckheads that oughta rot in jail (along with any bouncer that wants to abuse their position to bash the crap out of people).

There's something wrong with the system if a bouncer already on assault charges isn't stepped down from this kind of employment until he is cleared.

There are good and bad in all walks of life though. If there weren't drunken yobbos wanting to fight everything in site there wouldn't be as much need for heavy security at venues.

A story in todays HeraldSun tells a story from the other side.

A bouncer is in hospital with serious head injuries after being smashed in the face with a souvenir cricket bat while working at the Depot Hotel in Richmond on Sunday night.

Sources say the bouncer was helping someone fromt he footpath when hit with the bat. The man had been to the ING cup to watch Victoria beat South Australia and it's understood he won the bat signed by the Bushrangers team.

A Mornington Peninsular man, 23, has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and is bailed to appear in Melbourne's Magistrates' Court today.

Walster is on the right track. Bouncers need to be officially licenced and to gain that licence (with a yearly renewal) they would need to pass a background check, A psychological assesment a medical assesment (No Roids) and need to do a course in public relations and diplomacy. It's not rocket surgery. All they need to do is, 1, talk to the person politely and ask them to leave. If this fails step 2 escort them from the premises. If they resist, Restrain and call the Police. There is never a time that a bouncer should use a fist or kick someone EVER!! That is the dividing line between a good bouncer and a thug.

I think that our legal system is far too lenient to people that have been convicted of assault and violent crime. Perhaps if the penalties were more severe some of these d***heads may actually think twice before kinghitting someone from behind.

I am fed up with all the criminal activity that goes in our society and all the bashings that we constantly hear of.

I'm with you on this Young Tiger (and thanks rosy for putting in that additional story).

There is way too much violence in society these days but how to deal with it is anyone's guess.

Seems to me that slapping these violent anti-socials in prison (one of the most violent places in australia), where they can hit the gym and really beef up is not a very sound option.
