Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Might get on Ellis to win the RS as he will most likely play the unaccountable Heppell role next year I would think.

The thinking is sound, but I fully expect it will go to someone on GWS list this year.

AFL has to pump them up as best they can.

we all thought that about GC last season.....

Hard to think of someone good enough, even though they will get free games. Sheil is probably their best but he spent a lot of the year in Melbourne last year so doesn't have the 12 month headstart that Swallow had.

Josh Caddy is still elligable, he might be a sneaky tip because games should still be easy at the Suns and they will play him to try to encourage him to re-sign.

Hisotrically very few genuine first-year players win the award.

I wondered about that. So looked it up.

That once was correct. The last ten years have seen 5 of the 10 winners as first year players, however in the last 5 years four of the five have been. This can largely be put down to the great preparations TAC players are now getting I think,

Year Player Disposals Drafted
2011 Dyson Heppell 21.4 2010
2010 Daniel Hannebery 20.6 2008
2009 Daniel Rich 17.3 2008
2008 Rhys Palmer 23.1 2007
2007 Joel Selwood 19.2 2006
2006 Danyle Pearce 19.6 2004R
2005 Brett Deledio 15.3 2004
2004 Jared Rivers 11.8 2002
2003 Sam Mitchell 17.8 2001
2002 Nick Riewoldt 14.5 2000
2001 Justin Koschitzke 11.6 2000

Agree with you that Caddy is a good chance in 2012

Agree he's good value. How's the foot though? Might whack a bit on him also.

Griffiths is still eligible 20 years old 9 games

Its one of the quirks of the award that a weak team like ours tends to give the kids lots of games early. That tends to mean they don't play well enough to win it in year 1, and are inelligable in year 2 (eg Martin). Stronger clubs often don't give the kids as many games in year 1.

For all our youth policy we only have 8 elligbale players for the RS (plus the rookie list kids) because the likes of Astbury, Helbig and Conca have played too many games.

After game interview with Ellis http://www.richmondfc.com.au/
I like the bit with about 30 seconds to go when he says that "experiencing the Tiger roar was awesome".

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Did a couple of nice things. Did pretty well on Thomas.

Looked super composed with the ball in hand. Gave a great handball to Dusty on the wing under pressure.

Want to see him get more ball over the coming weeks but he will be a player.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

saw ellis at club soda in the city the other week. was standing the whole night and drinking water...good committment from the young man to not become another afl drunk mess

Would have been 5 out of 5 last years if Martin wasn't ineligible.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Some terrific signs from the kid particularly in the third term. Has a mature head on him.
Showed a fair bit more composure wise than Morris. Dare I say a lock for round 1.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

ToO don't reckon he or Ellis are a lock reckon we have better players in Newy, Batch, Houli etc to keep them out.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

one of the few positives tonight ,,this kid can really play....showed some awesome signs tonight..has that WOW WHO IS THAT?/ FACTOR THAT COTCHIN AND MARTIN HAD IN THEIR FIRST GAMES.....im very excited....lock him and the marics in for round one
