Coaching Panel Farce

Rumours are persisting that Frawley will bring Nathan Burke to RFC as a skills or Assistant Coach. Its not on. Richmond is not a retirement village for ex St Kilda players. What do Frawley, Wheadon, Hutchison, Brittain, Loewe and possibly Burke have in Common. Answer- Theyve never played or coached in a premiership. We dont need Burke and the truth is we probably dont need the rest of them either. The type of coaching panel we need is either coaching panel (a) Sheedy, O'Donnell, Lambert and Crocker or (b) Wallace, O'Donnell, Lambert and Crocker. Atleast these panels would have premiership experience. What do you guys think?

100% agree. If Burke comes to us we are even a bigger joke than what we are now. These losers from Stkilda have absolutely nothing to offer.

Question I ask what makes a good coach ?
Premierships you say, well Royce Hart and Tim Watson, are glorified Premierships players, couldnt coach a pig to be dirty.
Premierships have nothing to do with being a good coach.
Paul Roos is a good coach, has he played in a premiership team ?
Communication and people management makes ggod coaches. Getting every player in a team enviroment pointed in the right direction. To have a game plan that the players are capable of achieving. No use playing a running style if you havent got players who can carry the footy. The Tigers have one basic running player and thats Tivendale

If St Kilda beat us tonight I am going to be asking questions of the RFC.

I reckon Danny (god knows I do want you to succeed, but I think time is running out and you know it) and Stewie will be hoping for a win for their beloved mate Nathan. A bloody conspiracy that is what it would have been.

And for that reason I think we will not win :'(

Did that make sense, I know what I mean anyway :-[

Sheedy, Matthews, Malthouse, Pagan... the best have won premierships as players and coaches. Our coaching panel isnt up to it. Its good we spend money to have a well resourced panel...but its not any good if the right people arent in the right jobs.

Look at the coaches of grand finals in the last 10 years. The only one who never played finals was Alan Joyce. Go back to 1980. Same thing. Losers from Stkilda will never coach premiership sides.
Roos hasnt proved himself as yet.

I hope tiggytam is wrong about our coaches thinking of the game tonight. But you cant help wondering how they would be feeling. An even more worying thing is it seems as though every time there is some sort of milestone game for someone it just so happens to be against us ! Unfortunetly we are seen as a side that crumbles easily under pressure of such a game. Take the McCartney game, the Martyn game, and now again tonight. With still 3 matches to go till the end of the season Burke decides to retire tonight to have the best chance of going out on a winning note. Frawley keeps going on about gaining respect. Its very clear that the opposition have very little or none at all for us. But no wonder when we keep losing these types games. We need to win badly. :-[

I have it on good word that Wayne Brittain will be returning home to Brisbane and Craig Lambert is as good as signed up as our assistant next year. He has wanted to return to Punt Road for a while yet has not had the rightg offer.

I for one, believe he has the footy smarts we need in the coaching box.

P.S. Hulme from Carlton, still a shoe in to come to Tigerland next year. I said on a thread a while ago that not many people are happy at Carlton, and since, has been shown in the press. Insiders information....... Always handy.

P.P.S. Coughlan is extremely happy at Tigerland and wont be venturing home in the near future. He can see the clubs plans, and he will be a leader before he's 25....

Mark Harvey is the man we need.

Craig Lambert as an assistant.
Garry Hocking as an assistant.
Brett Ratten as an assistant.

Whoever else Harvey wants.

*The players will respect Harvey more so than Frawley, he has premiership experience, was a hard, tough player in a very good side for all his career!! He has shown along with his mate Garry O'Donnell to be the outstanding assistants going around, and it would be a toss up between the two, I believe Harvey would bring us that extra steel and hardness that we lack, so Id put him infront of O'Donnell....just.

*Lambert is an ex tiger who has been thought by a legendary coach in Leigh Matthews. Two premierships as an assistant shows he has a lot to offer us, a very smart footballer who would be welcome to Punt Road and also has that Romance to it!

*Hocking is currently coaching u18 outfit the Western Jets who were the laugh of the TAC cup for a while....Till Hocking has shown up. He has made them hard, has shown a keen ability to develop young talent and is a respected figure and one the players will not mess with. Currently the Jets are playing for finals footy!! He brings that to the table.

*Ratten is the guy we give the chance to. Just completed an outstanding and may I say it underrated football career and was a very smart, tough footballer who as the respect of the league. A lot of good judges believe Ratten would make an excellent coach some day by the way he thinks of his football.

This should be our aim starting now. If we are fair dinkum about our club we would be out scouting and negotiating for these blokes NOW!! I bet even with a similar playing list we would be a lot better off with this coaching set up....Frawley has had four years, thanks, give him a hand shake, see you later, time to build the club is now.

Sick of the mediocrity

Wallace, O'Donnell, Lambert and Crocker...Sheedy is still contracted so i think we go for the four mentioned above. Not sure about Hocking and Ratten in coaching terms...not experienced enough for where we are at

Hulme was Carltons best by a mile at a freezing Football Park yesterday. He stood out (along with Beaumont ) from the rest. Is hard at it, good skills, tackles ahrd and is a type fo guy i would like to see at our club. I did always think last year Carlton were bad early because the y were missing himadn they never recovered. He came back from injury and they improved tenfold. Rate him highly.

As far as I'm concerned, we should stay right away from any player leaving Carlton right now. If they can't handle Denis Pagan then I don't see how they can be cut out to be premiership players.

Stay right away from any of them Richmond.

I think Hulme is different MC, he seems to be thriving. If you saw him yesterday you would say he the standout Carlton playeer by an absolute mile. Really showed courage nad was extremely good.

Shawry, the type of player I'm referring to is the disgruntled type.

So, if Hulme is coming to Richmond, I have to ask why? Under what circumstances?

I totally agree with Jackstar.

Because a player has played in a premiership, it proves they are a good player, but not a good coach. Coaching is about communication, motovating people, getting the best out of your players, setting up game plans and stagagies and knowing your opponent.

Throw in Tony Shaw, premiership player, shocking coach.

We had Allan Jeans (a 5 time premiership coach) and we finish last or second last.

Richmond also had Robert Walls coaching us, a former premiership player and coach. What did he do ?

Its all about getting the right mix of players. The recuiting people have to draft the best players. The recuiting over the past few years has been dreadful.

Also consider, what coach would be stupid enough to come to Richmond ? We have a history of sacking coaches due to lack of success. I firmly believe that we should sack players whom are not up to it.

With some of the player foot skills, I reckon we should really be targeting a really good skills coach.

The is no way Terry Wallace will come to Richmond, Craig Lambert said recently he is happy under Leigh Matthews and will not be leaving, there is no way Sheedy will leave Essendon, Malthouse had the opportunity to come to Richmond but wasnt interested.

As for Darren Hulme. I cant see him coming to Richmond. Comparing him to other midfeilders, he is average.

If you want a midfielder, look a doing a deal with Brisbane. They have too many midfielders and Luke Power would be a great pick up.

All depends on what weed have to give up to get those palyers. Hulmei s underrated and may be cheaper and cost us less. Power does have the advantage of playing in a stellar team too, I am sure that makes a difference.

It was very interesting to note that most of the coaching staff were not in the box with spud on Saturday night.
