Coburg vs Port Melbourne.

I saw on the tele the other week a few of our young blokes play, Alex gilmour looked like a real good prospect, just wondering how he has gone the rest of the year?

Today

Rogers - no good imho
Dragga - played well early then off the ground for some reason
Fiora - good game class above Coburg.
Morrison - Cant take a mark to save himself, frustrated!
Roach - good when he was on the ground.
Raines - ditto
Gilmour - ditto
Foley - ditto
Fletcher - dud, cant even get a kick at Coburg.
Houlihan - even bigger dud.

That is being overly kind IMO Cracker.

I'd have said.

Rogers - no good imho...................Totally agree.
Dragga - played well early then off the ground for some reason. Agree again. But isn't likely to get back on the Tiger list.
Fiora - good game class above Coburg..... Yes and no. Flashes here and there didn't do much and made very poor decisions at times. Didn't deserve a recall to senior footy on that display.
Morrison - Cant take a mark to save himself, frustrated! .. Totally agree. No over head marks no contested marks. Big disappointment. Schulz is leap years ahead.
Roach - good when he was on the ground.... Agreed.
Raines - ditto... Agreed. Better than Roach IMO
Gilmour - ditto Didn't see much of it.
Foley - ditto
Fletcher - dud, cant even get a kick at Coburg. ... And when he does he turns it over.
Houlihan - even bigger dud..... 9 more weeks.

On Hartigan. Had a shocker. Gave away 3 goals within a 5 minute period as a result of poor decision making. At times under no pressure at all. In his defence he wasn't alone in that area :(.

Coburg looked unfit and lazy. It was just like watching the real Tigers. Making average players look like heroes. Geez that got old so long ago!

Not one player from that team deserves a spot in the seniors from that display.

I would like to see Raines get more of a run as well - he certainly seems to have his father's balance and penetrating kick!!!!

Six-goal burst helps Port Melbourne steamroll Tigers
By Gordon Oldham
July 5, 2004

A typically whithering six-goal burst at the start of the third quarter gave Port Melbourne a comfortable win over Coburg at Punt Road Oval yesterday, 14.10 (94) to 8.17 (65).

The Borough had struggled to shake the Tigers, but a half-dozen goals in 16 minutes enabled Port Melbourne to double Coburg's score and all but ended the contest. It was a quarter in which Corey McKernan began to show welcome glimpses of form, booting two goals in the term and finishing the match with 19 possessions and nine marks.

In the fourth term, McKernan also spent time in the ruck, where he was able to feed the ball to Kangaroos Shane Clayton and Shane Harvey.

Port Melbourne dominated around the ground, amassing nearly 350 touches and prompting a gentle reprimand from coach Gerard Fitzgerald.

"The amount of the ball we got was sensational, but that efficiency rating (24.5 possessions per goal) won't get us far," Fitzgerald said.

The coach also noted that the Borough had had its highest turnover rate of the season and warned that during the run home, every team in the competition would be keen to conquer the ladder leader.

The lack of a consistent four-quarter effort is still a concern. "It's certainly holding us back. Playing our best for such a brief period of time is not enough," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald had an enviable attack, which allowed him the luxury of rotating marking players McKernan, Kris Shore, Chad Jones and Josh Rudd in the goal mouth.

Coburg, on the other hand, struggled to kick goals. Shane Morrison had a forgettable day that included an invitation to the tribunal for allegedly striking David Hale. Adam Houlihan provided some spark for Coburg as he picked up 29 touches, but was wayward kicking for goal.
