Coronavirus

Seems like NSW haven't even looked at what failed to work in VIC's lockdowns last year.

We tried locking down just those North Melbourne apartments last year - it didn't work. So they announce, we will just shutdown a few LGA's (and they won't set up a ring of steel, so nothing will stop people moving).

Finally closing retail but its been too late.

Strange comments just hearing from Kerry Chant. VIC have been really clear with working environments (If you can work from home, you MUST do so). Kerry Chant says they are working with businesses to encourage more people to work from home.

Still don't appear to be going hard enough.
They’re still allowing hardware (Bunnings) and office supplies (Officeworks) to trade normally. They’ll be locked down until October at least at this rate.

It's not gonna be over in 5 days. Probably 3-4 weeks

Not necessarily. Just watching Fox (they showed the Sydney presser 1st). All 19 cases were primary contacts of known cases. 1 was in isolation the whole time. 18 were in partial isolation, in the community for an average of 1.7 days which is quite short. I'd expect an extension as a minimum to the weekend, but if they can increase the number in full isolation then we will see.

Yeah its crazy. Why can't Bunnings and Officeworks also operate via click and collect like the other stores and how we operate in VIC?

This is 1 of the 1st times I've seen Kerry Chant in a full press conference and OMG the differences between her and Brett Sutton are massive. I'm so glad we've got Sutton, she provides me with no confidence that she knows what shes doing.
I'd give her some leeway in that she might be trying to answer questions in a way that doesn't contradict what Gladys has been saying, or make headlines in anyway.

Yep if instead of trying to spin it they said that the outcomes show the strategy they employed failed, they need to own it and move on to a better set of controls they could get past this.

everyone knows this so its stupid of them pretending it isn’t true.

Sydney certainly going hard now by shutting building sites. Melbourne have never done that.

I don't understand why building sites have been exempt from lockdowns in the past and think they should be in Melbourne's current lockdown.

Virus doesn't carry a union card so there's no way it would be allowed into a large building site.

Most times they reduce the number of people that can be on a site, but keep them open.

Really need to dig this 2020 classic out and play it on repeat on all Sydney airwaves

The argument that we can't criticise the slow rollout in Australia because other countries have much worse Covid situations is the worst take on this thread to date.

Except Lee's "vaccination is a low priority for Australia" take maybe. Tough call.
That’s not the argument thought any. The slow rollout is a joke and another Morrison failure. He hasn’t delivered on anything. But the discussion should have been had months ago about why Australia should be front of the queue given the low (relative ) risk here. It’s every man for himself. If there was unlimited supply and countries were only limited by their rollout ability it would not matter. But there has been limited supply hasn’t there? Countries with lower risk should be behind those in greater need. Reality is self interest wins. It is a discussion that was never had here.

With cases found at the MCG last weekend, why has no one blasted the AFL and ticketek/ Ticketmaster for the way they bunch total strangers next to each other while vast areas of the ground are closed off?

Completely agree. I understand that spreading the crowd out is more expensive due to opening extra facilities, but are we serious or not?

Australia is not the front of the queue. We are a long way back apparently. We along with other countries that succeeded in suppression during the first waves of the virus are now at risk again. Indonesia is neither at the front or the back. They bought up sinovac (one of the less effective), they also use moderna and pfizer, and possibly others. Indonesia will still have supply chain and massive logistical issues getting any vaccine rolled out regardless of how much vaccine they source. BUT WE SHOULD STILL HELP THEM - that should be clear enough for anyone who thinks that either you give away all your vaccines to those less well off or none. Bogus argument.

It's facile. It's the same argument as the one that says "if you are a socialist you should give your house to those homeless people down the street". That's not what socialism is.
