The funny part of that on AFL360, I thought ,

I suspect we did peak too early in 2018, on the other hand I don't think we reached the form shown in the 2017 finals either. But coming off a premiership after so long in the wilderness, a premiership which was unexpected - we thought Richmond would be competitive, we thought they might win a final or two, but we won the whole thing. The criticism after we won the GF, with comments like the worst team to win a flag and criticism of the players and how they weren't good enough to be premiership players. That would have stung, and the response was playing well early in 2018 to show the world Richmond well and truly deserved that flag. I'm not sure any coach could have stopped the players' response.
This year we look to be hitting form at the right time of the year. How good are we? Well we find out in the next 2 weeks. But we also get an opportunity to see what the serious opposition is like in the next 2 weeks. We win, great, top 4. We lose one or both, we see the level we need to rise to and get a chance to have another go in the finals. Geelong we don't see before the finals, but make no mistake, they may be stumbling for the moment but they are the real deal. Let's hope trying to peak later in the season works, it is a damned hard trick to pull off.

Absolutely. I loved his quick response after Chris was talking down the good play of Stevens from the Saints...trying to lower his value. He knows Chris doesn't rate Richmond and can't wait to get a chance to bury them on the MCG like 2017.
Well Dimma must be doing something right this especially in the last third of the season and without a truly settled squad. Places to play for come the finals
Our season gets judged over the next two weeks. Lose both and we'll be written off, win one and it and 4th spot will be too close to call. Win both and we're favourites. Though personally a GF vs WC with Nic Nat back in the side will be plenty scary.

Agree with your point about the response and determination from the playing group in 2018 to prove that 2017 was no fluke, particularly in light of the Bulldogs fall-off in 2017 - and thus to hit the ground running.
But still think that that is where the football department needed to take responsibility and hold back / rotate / rest the individuals and group to make sure there was plenty left in the tank for September.
It has been a lesson learnt the hard way but there are some encouraging signs that Dimma and the Football Dept are resting and prepping players better this year.
Whether we are good enough will be clearer after the next two weeks.
some people would argue that things happened by accident and not design. early 2017 Griffiths went down, so we were forced to play this small forward line, which won us the flag. this year, with our early injuries, we couldn’t peak early, but we are getting it right now at the right time when most have returned from injury.
I said it then and will say it now.
There should be a statue of Giffens.
If he stays and plays there wouldve been no chance of a flag.
