Jack Riewoldt [Merged]

Been saying all year. Reiwoldt is done. Keep him next year we dont make finals.

Look the amount of inside 50s we have generated this year flatters Jacks Goal tally.
have you ever made a positive post about anything? Is that you Laff or Diggler?

Isn't the real point that at this late stage of his career Jack shouldn't be rollling around as the No. 1. or even to be honest No. 2 forward? If he was just a third tall which is what he should be then it would be a better assessment of his contributions.
yes.

Has changed his action in kicking for goal, to his detriment. Snaps round the corner when he used to drill drop punts, runs out to the right to get distance when 50 or so out and invariably misses.
thats because he can't kick as far.

He played #3 tonight.

I thought he was fabulous tonight. Battled one out against a dozen of them. Had absolutely no aerial cover. Nothing from Soldo. Less from Nankervis. Noah doing his best. Smalls couldn't even get in the way.

Hit up all night. Jumped at anything he could reach. When he got anything like a good ball he owned it. Halved when out of position. Worked tirelessly and with flair at ground level.

When we sent that last ball in we were zero chance of impacting the contest. Jack went shooting star on it because it was the only hope, hilarious as it was.

If Clangerflop had gone shooting star on that ball he'd have got a free, 3 votes, a Mcdonalds voucher and a frankincense enema. They hate Jack. He gets nuthen.

great post. There were a couple tonight that were so anti jack as to be comical, and fittingly Jack laughed at one of them.

Agree tonight definitely wasn't one of those games telling me that Jack should retire, it validates that he is no longer a number 1 forward, but he tries for everything. The one thing he really needs to work on though is ensuring that those snaps are practised better. His scoring ratio from those certainly seems to be poor right now, 2 years ago you'd have bet your house on Jack snapping from 30 out.

The forward personnel around him is never the same. We get no continuity. So he doesn't where the others are. So the little taps and knocks are not on as often.

That means he's taking the snaps. Not to say Jack should not be laying it off a bit more. But he may not have the confidence in some of the newer players. Takes the shot.

But, yes, MrP. His goal kicking is *smile* atm. And it hurts.

A further note on the conditions of the game. It was warm all night and the deck was indoor. Lightning fast. Freo is a fast side. *smile* fast. Tall. Plenty of heavyweights as well as mosquitoes. Both sides were super explosive. Tuned to the minute. Fierce. Switched on. Finals football.

There was a *smile* load of heat in that game. Some players didn't cope at all. Others managed a half. Jack worked like a bastard under immense physical pressure. Pearce. Cox. And then they pushed their ruck back. And had Ryan, Chapman, and even Young in the way.

We should not underestimate the challenge Jack Riewoldt faced.

FWIW if a sound Tom Lynch plays tonight we win be five goals. A fit Martin be ten.

we win the last 3 games with Lynch. But if your auntie had knackers she'd be your uncle.

Absolutely. Drop punts are very simple line and length but those snaps look more complex which seems to break down too often with set shots. He has to hit the ideal spot under the ball to allow for the amount of swing he wants, the distance the ball has to travel (further than a drop punt) and aim it far enough to the right to allow it to turn into the goal. We've seen examples where players miss the contact point and it doesn't turn at all, straight up in the air. The whole thing is a disaster and it's not just Jack. Tom used that kick a few times and was also kicking points but that was after his drop punts weren't working!
Jack should be told to ditch that kick unless near the point post but unfortunately he doesn't appear to be someone who would accept advice in this area. Is he too stubborn, too independent? So we'll just be watching more lost opportunities for the remaining matches.

Anyone pointing to this game as an example of why Jack should retire either doesn't understand football or needs their eyes checked. He was one of our best all night.

Yeh, maybe a better way to look at it. But he is not making good decisions or executing when he does get opportunities. I don’t think a Lynch/balta/Riewoldt forward line works. And I’d rather be developing or trading for a new key forward. It’s time.

And at 34 years of age, at least Jack is getting on the park every game. Not the same can be said for Tommy who is starting to average 3-4 hammies per year now.

Love Tommy.

But love Jack.

It's not simple as that.

Part of his job is to kick goals.

His job is one almost no key forward in the league has to play.

We structure up so impossibly for a leading forward, so Jack has to scrap in the air.

And he does. He is always having to beat one bloke so he can contest against two.

It was particularly striking last night with, Nank's abject failure to do the same, how difficult his role is.
