Jayden Short

Shorty has improved this year and so have the Tigers, a bit of correlation i reckon.

I don't know why Robbo wouldn't include a couple of others, like Astbury for example.

BIG FOUR HAS BECOME THE BIG 10 AT RICHMOND

There was Alex Rance, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin and Jack Riewoldt.

It’s time to add Dylan Grimes, Shane Edwards, Dion Prestia, Toby Nankervis, Kane Lambert and Daniel Rioli who would be all ranked elite in their positions.

Add an 11th, Jayden Short, if you’re fair dinkum about ranking the best small defenders. He is the player who has made the Tigers a better team this year. He had 25 disposals and 599m gained against Adelaide and is averaging 510m gained across the season, which ranks him fourth in the competition.

OMG How could he leave out Nick Vlaustin at number 5. Misses 1 game and quickly forgotten!

Adding Cads, *smile*, Flossy, Houli to our fab eleven suddenly makes us a fab fifteen. No wonder we are so hard to beat each week, we've got so many stars that even our role players n fringies are elite. Geezer, Georgie, Broady, B.C.Ellis, Towner, Garp, Mendoo,

If we were the "Old Richmond" I'd be worried that Shorty would go, this New Richmond is a different story.

If you look at all his statements in recent interviews, all he wants to do is contribute to & be part of our success.
Why would he leave a club that's finally having success to get a few more $s at a 2nd rate team. He'll get plenty of "sweeteners" from the contacts at the Tigers, to make up for any loss of money on his new contract.
You just have to look at what Dusty did to realise that.

I'm not in the least bit nervous about him leaving.

This guy is a really valuable player now. He is only going to get better too. Vital we offer him a strong deal and sign him up. I'm actually not so worried about missing out on Lynch. If CMoore can look so promising, we have just as good or better coming through the VFL too. Chol, CCJ, and big, bad Balta.

Short could become an elite rebounding HB. Arguably, he's close already, for his metres gained as well as that penetrating kick - either side. Will probably be even better with Houli's return taking some focus off him, being a similar weapon off HBF. Shorty might get free for more of his great long-range shots on goal. I would rate his chances of kicking accurately far higher than Castagna or Cal Moore from inside 40m.

What, do his critics want KMac to return?

:hihi

Cannot get it. At all. Madness.

Madness? Letting one of the big 4 walk would be madness. Perspective. I like him, like him a lot actually, he playing very well, and I hope he stays, but all this talk of keeping him at all costs without any real consideration of the complex factors that could emerge, that''s madness. Actually that is not madness either, its just naive.

It would be an interesting exercise for anyone to go down our list and do a would you rather keep Short or Player x? Shorty might well be in our top 15 right now sure, but would you keep Short over Balta, CCJ, Bolton etc? And also would you keep Short on overs or Player x, say Broad, on unders? these things are complicated, very complicated. Its not as simple as 'he's playing well kepp at all costs'. It is that simple with bona fide stars of course. Players get hyped and their price goes up due to good form and being the type that is in favour or whatever, the media pack jump on board, (I mean Phillips in the half year AA squad over Cotchy? exhibit A). He's a good player, but thats what's happening IMO.

in modern day statistic measures he is elite with meter gained. He probably isnt the best defender, he does not have to be with Rance, Dave, Grimes, Vlos around him. I dont know how this translates $$$ wise but should be about the 8th-12th on highest paid Tigers with that he has delivered to date.

Here is the dilemma with keeping the list happy, fitting a young improving premiership team under the salary cap.

The mandatory 3 delistings would have been tough had it not been for Hampson and Griff handing up the boots. We will probably loose a couple of VFL players (Lloyd, Miles-C Ellis- Bolton-Manadue??) who might look to play more senior elsewhere. First some more September excitement for both AFL and VFL teams and then a fascinating post season awaits.

Is Drummond still on the list? He'd be a pretty straight forward delisting.

Must stay. Confidence is building and will get better possibly much better. Taking players on and going forward to kick goals. Deadly near the 50m arc.

no one is saying at all costs, snake. it'll end up being a little overs but he's a required player in a premiership unit. all prices go up.

you said you'd be happy to let him walk and that's the madness right there.

Definately didn't say happy. All things being equal, I'd like to keep him and hope he satys, but all things are never equal. The point is very simple. I think he is the type of player who isn't that hard to replace, especially in comparison to many other players on our list, others seem to think he's irreplaceable. cie la vie. we'll see.

who steps up if we somehow idiotically let him walk?

IMO if things play out in certain ways, ie he asks too much and that means squeezing more important players out, that isn't letting him walk, and it's not idiotic.

How much is too much? Which important players do you have in front of him? Theres obviously some very obvious ones but interested to know who you have in front. We can all probably name the first 10 or so, its the next ones I'm probably more interested in.

So who knows what we're offering n what he's asking??
Might be we've only offered $200 n he's asking $300, we might be hoping to retain him for scraps so we can afford another " elite ". Might be we've offered $300 n he's asking $600 coz he's greedy n got a self inflated opinion, then we punt him.
Unless someone's got some concrete numbers instead of speculating, it's all just *smile*.
