Jayden Short

I wouldn't be giving short 500 when someone like Lloyd is gettable at 600-650.
Short should be happy with 300 otherwise see ya

Nah. Short will get paid and deservedly so based on his season. Probably around 400-450 imo. Which is about what we paid a spud like Lennon when old mate Dan Richo was in charge wasn't it?

I'd rather Short at 450 than Lloyd at 650. Even then, if Lloyd leaves Sydney it will probably be for more than 650.

The average AFL players salary is $371,000, do you consider Shorty a below average player?

He is way above average, he is having a terrific season. but it helps when your surrounded by Astbury, Rance, grimes, and big V.
I've heard that the club has offered him a decent offer over 2 years and he knocked it back. He virtually said it on SeN on Saturday morning.
What I say is accept what the club offers or see ya later. Adelaide kicked 8 goals, he gave them 2.
He can be replaced

Yes, there's no doubt that he needs the coverage that Rance and co provide him, that's what makes us such a good team. I heard him on Sen and that's not how i interpreted it.

Shorts 3 years behind Lloyd in age, but if you compare him at the same age he's actually tracking better than Lloyd. I'd rather keep Short and not have to trade for the same player personally. Seems nuts to even be considering it.

As I've said like a stuck record, I like Shorty, but obviously not as much as some, there is a fair bit of hype IMO. The heirarchy won't get sucked in, we'll pay what he's worth or unders. If someone else want to pay overs, which could well happen, so be it.

x2

Shorty has improved this year and so have the Tigers, a bit of correlation i reckon.

I don't know why Robbo wouldn't include a couple of others, like Astbury for example.

BIG FOUR HAS BECOME THE BIG 10 AT RICHMOND

Mark Robinson

There was Alex Rance, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin and Jack Riewoldt.

It’s time to add Dylan Grimes, Shane Edwards, Dion Prestia, Toby Nankervis, Kane Lambert and Daniel Rioli who would be all ranked elite in their positions.

Add an 11th, Jayden Short, if you’re fair dinkum about ranking the best small defenders. He is the player who has made the Tigers a better team this year. He had 25 disposals and 599m gained against Adelaide and is averaging 510m gained across the season, which ranks him fourth in the competition.

If you let him walk, with no one else capable of playing the role, your asking for trouble.

And then you need an ageing Houli to be heathy for another two years until you find the long term replacement.

We aren't deep in the area's Short excels at. Tread carefully. Chance for the AA 40 squad.

All subjective I guess. But it is a nice problem to have when people paid to have an opinion leave players like Caddy, Astbury, and Houli (when on the park) out of the top 10.

I'm a big wrap for Shorty, and would be wanting to keep hold of him. A great mix of calmness, agility and speed, and of course his lethal shoes. Is getting better with every game. The current culture - players and coaching staff are driving development at a rate of knots, and this lad is no exception. Vital to the way we play.

absolutely scoop. no one else can do what shorty does.

so you pay him slightly overs due to list profile needs.

all this talk of "hype", being "overrated" and "letting him walk" is bizarre.

geez you'd be ruining the list with that kind of thinking Snake.

shorty is worth a little overs to us. we can't afford to let elite kicks off HB walk.

And the rest. Rumours are already rounding our at $750K a year. Gold Coast apparently making a strong bid. Would be great to get Lloyd but unrealistic if we're eyeing off Lynch for big dollars. Short is doing a stirling job and working well within the structure and game plan. I say keep him.

We need shorty more than we did last year. This season, teams have been coming at the ball carrier a lot more, knowing we like to handpass-release.

Shorty is one of the few on our list who can provide alternative transition. That 45/45 has become crucial in setting up scoring chains just when the oppo thinks they have us locked down.

We’re running a more sophisticated transition this year because we had to. Shorty is critical to that. We will keep him and probably pay overs. I’m cool with that and the club will be also.

Most improved on our list.

Would let Brandon Ellis and Houli go if it meant keeping Short

have similar view

Also have Miles & Lloyd. I would trade or delist these guys to help keep him

He's also so composed. He knows he can elude most players so plays with total calm. And he has a very penetrating kick means he breaks the defensive barriers more often.

in modern day statistic measures he is elite with meter gained. He probably isnt the best defender, he does not have to be with Rance, Dave, Grimes, Vlos around him. I dont know how this translates $$$ wise but should be about the 8th-12th on highest paid Tigers with that he has delivered to date.

Here is the dilemma with keeping the list happy, fitting a young improving premiership team under the salary cap.

The mandatory 3 delistings would have been tough had it not been for Hampson and Griff handing up the boots. We will probably loose a couple of VFL players (Lloyd, Miles-C Ellis- Bolton-Manadue??) who might look to play more senior elsewhere. First some more September excitement for both AFL and VFL teams and then a fascinating post season awaits.
