Kangaroo Karaoke

The indians send signals
From the rocks above the pass
The cowboys take positions
In the bushes and the grass
The squaw is with the corporal
She is tied against the tree
She doesn’t mind the language
It’s the beating she don’t need
She lets loose all the horses
When the corporal is asleep
And he wakes to find the fire’s dead
And arrows in his hats
And davy crockett rides around
And says it’s cool for cats
The sweeney’s doing ninety
’cos they’ve got the word to go
They get a gang of villains
In a shed up at heathrow
They’re counting out the fivers
When the handcuffs lock again
In and out of wandsworth
With the numbers on their names
It’s funny how their missus’
Always look the bleeding same
And meanwhile at the station
There’s a couple of likely lads
Who swear like how’s your father
And they’re very cool for cats
They’re cool for cats

To change the mood a little
I’ve been posing down the pub
On seeing my reflection
I’m looking slightly rough
I fancy this, I fancy that
I wanna be so flash
I give a little muscle
And I spend a little cash
But all I get is bitter and a nasty little rash
And by the time I’m sober
I’ve forgotten what I’ve had
And ev’rybody tells me that it’s cool to be a cat
Cool for cats

Shake up at the disco
And I think I’ve got a pull
I ask her lots of questions
And she hangs on to the wall
I kiss her for the first time
And then I take her home
I’m invited in for coffee
And I give the dog a bone
She likes to go to discos
But she’s never on her own
I said I’ll see you later
And I give her some old chat
But it’s not like that on the tv
When it’s cool for cats
It’s cool for cats

Time for a story... ten whole minutes of understated pop magic from 1993 about the Kelvin high-rise estate in Sheffield. (For Meadowhall, read Chadstone.)

(Cocker/Mackey/Doyle/Banks/Senior)

Oh, children of the future, conceived in the toilets of Meadowhall to be raised on cheap corn snacks and garage food. Rolling empty cans down the stairwell -- don't you love that sound? -- while the thoughts of a bad social worker run around his head... (trying to remember what he learned at training college).

"Mister said you wasn't allowed in here... so why don't you get lost?"

And if you're good, then when you grow up, maybe... maybe you can live... live on Kelvin. Yeah, you can live in Kelvin. On the promenade with the concrete walkways, where pigeons go to die.

"A woman on the 14th floor noticed that her ceiling was bulging, as if under a great weight. When the council investigated, they discovered that the man in the flat above had transported a large quantity of soil into his living room, in which several plants he had stolen from the local park were growing. When questioned, the man said all he wanted was a garden."

"When questioned, the man said all he wanted was a garden."

Oh God, I think the future's been deep fried -- deep fried in Kelvin -- and now it's rotting behind the remains of a stolen motorbike. I never touched it, honest!... well, there wasn't anything else to do. We don't need your sad attempts at social conscience based on taxi rides home at night from exhibition openings. We just want your car radio, and bass reflex speakers. Now!

Suffer little children to come unto me, and I will treat their adventure playground splinters and cigarette burns, and feed them fizzy orange and chips, that they may grow up straight and tall, that they may grow up to live... on Kelvin.

Oh yeah, we have ghettos too, only we use air rifles instead of machine guns. Stitch that! And we drink Diamond White. In the end, the question you have to ask yourself is:

Are you talking to me... or are you chewing a brick?

I got to meet Henry Rollins over a year ago at the corner hotel, it was a good night... I particularly liked his black flag stuff, but here's a rollins band number that i can sometimes relate to 8)

You think you’re going to live your life alone
In darkness and seclusion... yeah, I know
You’ve been out there and tried to mix with those animals
And it just left you full of humiliated confusion
So you stagger back home and wait for nothing
But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back onto the streets
And now you’re desperate and in need of human contact
And then you meet me and your whole world changes
Because everything I say is everything you’ve ever wanted to hear
So you drop all you defenses, I’m perfect in every way
’cause I make you feel so strong and so powerfull inside
You feel so lucky
But your ego obscures reality that you never bothered to
Wonder why things are going so well
You want to know why?

’cause I’m a liar, yeah, I’m a liar
I’ll tear your mind up, I’ll burn your soul
I’ll turn you into me, I’ll turn you into me
’cause I’m a liar, a liar, a liar, a liar...

I’ll hide behind a smile and understanding eyes
And I’ll tell you things that you already know so you can say:
I really identify with you, so much
And all the time that you’re needing me is just the time
That I’m bleeding you, don’t you get it yet?
I’ll come to you like an affliction then I’ll leave you like an addiction
You’ll never forget me... wou wanna know why?

’cause I’m a liar, yeah, I’m a liar
I’ll rip your mind up, I’ll burn your soul
I’ll turn you into me, I’ll turn you into me
’cause I’m a liar, a liar, a liar, a liar...

I don’t know why I feel the need to lie and cause you so much pain
Maybe it’s something inside, maybe it’s something I can’t explain
’cause all I do is mess you up and lie to you
I’m a liar, ooh, I’m a liar
But if you’ll give me another chance I swear I’ll never lie to you again
’cause now I see the destructive power of a lie,
They’re stronger than truth
I ca’t believe I ever hurt you, I swear I will never lie to you again
Please, just give me more chance, I’ll never lie to you again, no,
I swear, I will never tell a lie, I will neer tell a lie, no, no
Ha ha ha ha ho ho ho ho! sucker! sucker! Oooooh sucker!

I am a liar, yeah, I am a liar, yeah, I am a liar
I lie you, I feel good, I am a liar, yeah
I lie, I lie, I lie, I lie... ooh, I lie, yeah, I lie
I’m a liar, I lie, I like it, I feel good, I like it, and again
I like it again and I’ll keep lying, I’ll promise

Ooh Otis you lucky bugger, I really like Henry Rollins. I haven't seen him play live but I have been to a spoken word show.

While I am filling in time until The Movie Show with Megs and Davo, I might belt out a couple of movie tunes for ya entertainment ;D

First cab off the rank is from a little film called The Commitments, pity Andrew Strong's ego was bigger than his talent cos boy could he sing.

Mustang Sally!
Guess you better slow your mustang down...
(oh lord...what i said now...)
Mustang Sally now baby....oh Lord...
Guess you better slow your mustang down...
(oh yeah)

You been running all over the town now...
OH!...Guess i'll have to put your flat feet on the ground....
(Ha!...what I said now...)

Listen:
All you wanna do is ride around Sally....
(Ride, Sally, Ride)
All you wanna do is ride around Sally...
(Ride, Sally, Ride)
All you wanna do is ride around Sally...
(Ride, Sally, Ride)
All you wanna do is ride around Sally...
(Ride, Sally, Ride)

Listen here....one of these lonely mornings,
OH!...gonna' be wiping your weeping eyes...(HUH!)

What i say now! Lookey here...

I bought you a brand-new mustang,
a 1965.
Now you come around, single, fine, woman...
and don't wanna let me ride...

Mustang Sally, now baby, oh lord,
Guess you better slow that mustang down....(Huh...oh Lord)
You been running all over town...OH!
Gotta put your flat feet on the ground...

What i said now...let me say it one more time.

Now all you wanna do is ride around Sally...
(Ride, Sally, Ride)
All you wanna do is ride around Sally...
(Ride, Sally, Ride)

Second tune tonight is from one of the best blues movies you are likely to see (my opinion of course  ;D) with the most unlikely leading man The Karate Kid himself Ralph Macchio

Crossroads

I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above, have mercy now, save poor Bob if you please

Standin' at the crossroads, tried to flag a ride
Whee-hee, I tried to flag a ride
Didn't nobody seem to know me, everybody pass me by

Standin' at the crossroads, risin' sun goin' down
Standin' at the crossroads baby, the risin' sun goin' down
I believe to my soul now, po' Bob is sinkin' down

You can run, you can run, tell my friend Willie Brown
You can run, you can run, tell my friend Willie Brown
That I got the crossroad blues this mornin', Lord, baby I'm sinkin' down

I went to the crossroad, mama, I looked east and west
I went to the crossroad, babe, I looked east and west
Lord, I didn't have no sweet woman, ooh well, babe, in my distress

and finally from that bloody little Quentin Tarantino gem

Little Green Bag

Lookin' back on the track for a little green bag
Got to find just that kind or losin' my mind
Outta sight in the night, outta sight in the day
Lookin' back on the track, gonna do it my way

Outta sight in the night, outta sight in the day
Lookin' back on the track, gonna do it my way
Lookin' back

Lookin' for some happiness but there is only loneliness to find
Jump to the left, turn to the right
Lookin' up stairs, lookin' behind

Lookin' for some happiness but there is only loneliness to find
Jump to the left, turn to the right
Lookin' upstairs, lookin' behind

Yeah
Lookin' back on the track for a little green bag
Got to find just that kind or losin' my mind
Outta sight in the night, outta sight in the day
Lookin' back on the track, gonna do it my way
Lookin' back on the track for a little, little green bag
Got to find just that kind or losin' my mind

All right

Lookin' for some happiness but there is only loneliness to find
Jump to the left, turn to the right
Lookin' upstairs, lookin' behind

Hey Tiggy, excellent work there. :clap
Love the George Baker Selection.

Somehow I'm struggling to see the Karate Kid selling his soul to the devil

Keep them coming Tiggy

Ready that was a pretty trippy story back there. 8) Nice work too by Otis and Tiggy. :clap

Grab yourselves a drink and pull up a chair for this as I'm dimming the lights and upping the volume. >:D

*8 bar guitar intro* ;D

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Born to be Wild

Get your motor running
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
And whatever comes our way

Yeah darling, gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racing with the wind
And the feeling that I’m under

Yeah darling, gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born
Born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild, yeah

Get your motor running
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
And whatever comes our way

Yeah darling, gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born
Born to be wild
We can climb so high
And I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild, ow

HO HO HO

Thought I would start off the seasons greetings with an old classic

We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some, so bring some out here

We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Now where is my figgy pudding??

And just so I get some use out of this red suit

Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute,
Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot,
Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs,
It's Summer time and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut !,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

Engine's getting hot; we dodge the kangaroos,
The swaggie climbs aboard, he is welcome too.
All the family's there, sitting by the pool,
Christmas Day the Aussie way, by the barbecue.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

Come the afternoon, Grandpa has a doze,
The kids and Uncle Bruce, are swimming in their clothes.
The time comes 'round to go, we take the family snap,
Pack the car and all shoot through, before the washing up.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden ute

What the hell TGN, I'll sing it out loud now

I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I want to be the minority

I pledge allegiance to the underworld
One nation under dog
There of which I stand alone
A face in the crowd
Unsung, against the mold
Without a doubt
Singled out
The only way I know

I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Casue I want to be the minority

Stepped out of the line
Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time
To my own beat now
The only way I know

One light, one mind
Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For crying out loud" she screamed unto me
A free for all
F*** 'em all
You are your own sight

I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I want to be the minority

Outstanding Top Cat! :clap :clap And ToO I've been singing Born to Be Wild all day! >:D

Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar.
You're gonna go far, fly high,
You're never gonna die,
You're gonna make it if you try;
They're gonna love you.
Well I've always had a deep respect,
And I mean that most sincerely.
The band is just fantastic,
that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy,
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

We're just knocked out.
We heard about the sell out.
You gotta get an album out.
You owe it to the people.
We're so happy we can hardly count.
Everybody else is just green,
Have you seen the chart?
It's a helluva start,
It could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team.
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy,
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

Cockatoo Caroloake

My favourite carol.

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The war is so long
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
