Whilst its all maudlin and melancholy..........

Jesse
Jesse did they change your name
So you won’t know who I am

Jesse
Where are you darling son
You were taken from my arms

Mama put me on a train
In the middle of the night
Sent me away to hide my shame
Said ‘Come back without the child’

In a bare white room I laboured alone
‘til they came to put me out
I had to fight just to see you
To remember your eyes

Jesse
Jesse did they change your name
So you won’t know who I am

Jesse
Where are you darling son
You were taken from my arms

You must think I gave you up
I was just a girl
Not yet strong enough
To stand up when they come

They said ‘You’re unfit to raise your son’
‘He’s promised to a husband and wife’
So with fingers crossed behind my back
I signed us apart

Jesse
Jesse did they change your name
So you won’t know who I am

Jesse
Where are you darling son
You were taken from my arms

Every child injured or died
In the daily news
My heart it crashed every time
Darling could that be you

Every boy I’d pass on the street
Every boy I’d ever meet
Every boy who’d visit my dreams
Darling could that be you

Oh Jesse, did they change your name
So you won’t know who I am

Jesse
Where are you darling son
You were taken from my arms

This thread is great! Gotta have a go.

Terrible weekend. Slammed. Tigers lost. Lost on the punt. Then on Sunday, my girlfriend left. It was coming for a while, and it was over, but it doesn't make it easy. Went out with a mate for a few drinks Sunday night, he's an artist, and a Melbourne supporter, poor bastard. We ended up in a Karaoke bar in the valley. I was tossing up between maudlin and stupid. Hank Williams or Ricky Martin, 'I can't help it' vs 'she bangs'. I couldn't decide, so my mate sang 'North to Alaska' which got a good reaction. I had another look, there was a George Jones track. He tended to maudlin, but I remembered reading how he was once pulled up for DUI on a ride on lawnmower after his wife, Tammy Wynette, had taken his keys off him. Stupid.

Things have gone to pieces, George Jones

Oh, the faucet started drippin' in the kitchen
Last night your picture fell down from the wall
And today the boss said, sorry, son
I can't use you any more
And tonight the light bulb went out in the hall

Ooh, things have gone to pieces since you left me
Nothin' turns out half right, now, it seems
There ain't nothin' in my pockets
But three nickels and a dime
And I'm holdin' to the pieces of my dreams

Somebody threw a baseball through my window
And the arm fell off my favorite chair today
Oh, the man called me today
Said he'd haul my things away
If I didn't get my payments made by ten

Things have gone to pieces since you left me
Now nothin' turns out half right now, it seems
There ain't nothin' in my pockets
But three nickels and a dime
And I'm holdin' to the pieces of my dreams

Got a big round of applause after. I was surprised. A very skinny old bloke who seemed like a regular came up and shook my hand and said, 'bloody great pal, great'. A very skinny old woman who also seemed like a regular smiled at me, for a long time. I smiled back, and my mate and I left.

pleased youve turned to KK snake. This ones for you.

I walked into this strange place. It was a bit like a tippee, a bit like a cave and a bit like the Australia National Hotel in Woollongabba. It was dark, organic and had screens everywhere. The screens were showing a subliminal collage of misogyny. All i could really process was an image of a horse wearing oversized hearing protection. Then it changed. It was soft and clean and warm and neat and flowery and calm and pretty and strong. I felt weak, like I do when ive begged for sex with my wife.

Then the screens went blank and it all went dark. I could hear a faint strumming guitar. So faint it could have been a siren, or a bat. Em, A7, Em, Em, A7. I dont know why, but I took off all my clothes, put on a cowboy hat, did 20 push-ups, and sang to an empty world.

I can settle dow-own and be doin just fine
Til I hear an old train rollin down the line
Then I hurry strai-aight home and pack
And if I didnt go, I believe Id blow my [am] stack
I love you ba-aby, but you gotta understand
When the lord made me
He made a ramblin man.

Some folks might sa-ay that Im no good
That I wouldnt settle down if I could
But when that open ro-oad starts to callin me
Theres somethin oer the hill that I gotta see
Sometimes its har-rd but you gotta understand
When the lord made me, he made a ra-amblin man.

I love to see the tow-owns a-passin by
And to ride these rails neath gods blue sky
Let me travel this la-and from the mountains to the sea
cause thats the life I believe he meant for me
And when Im go-one and at my grave you stand
Just say God called home your ra-amblin man.

It was quite. I felt like Alby Mangels for a moment until my heart sank when I thought of belinda green and I knew I couldnt win.

It's a fine line between pleasure and pain
You've done it once, you can do it again
Whatever you done don't try to explain
It's a fine, fine line between pleasure and pain

THE DIVINYLS - GOOD DIE YOUNG

City air, toxic taste
A girl falls from innocent grace
Where pleasure has it's price

Looking into your eyes, your eyes
Are open are open wide
No ties no surprise in your eyes
Are open wide

Wonder if you got the chance
To let your real feelings show
Dry eyes men and women looking

Into your eyes, your eyes
Are open are open wide
No ties no surprise in your eyes
Are open wide

Now, I'm happy, happy, happy, happy
Happy just to see you with a friend now and then
Happy, happy, happy, happy
Music changes but the dance steps don't
When the good die young

City air, toxic taste
A girl falls from innocent grace
A girl disappears and leave no trace

Into your eyes your eyes
Are open are open wide
No ties no surprise in your eyes
Are open wide

Now, I'm happy, happy, happy, happy
Happy just to see you with a friend now and then
Happy, happy, happy, happy
Music changes but the dance steps don't
When the good die young

RIP Chrissy.

Yeah it's one of my top 5 Divinyls favourites. It was mentioned today that she picked up MS from gyrating on the stage too many times. Always grabs you in the later years.....

Dry the tears. The years passed. The girl was saved. She doesn't always feel worthy of the love and devotion but she counts her blessings every day. Life is good.

Yet again she sings harmony with Lou.

"Perfect Day"

Just a perfect day
Drink sangria in the park
And then later, when it gets dark
We go home

Just a perfect day
Feed animals in the zoo
Then later a movie, too
And then home

Oh, it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spent it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on

Just a perfect day
Problems all left alone
Weekenders on our own
It's such fun

Just a perfect day
You made me forget myself
I thought I was someone else
Someone good

Oh, it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spent it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on

You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow

I think it was lust with genie, and if I'm being truthful with myself though, chrissy too. 99 was pure love, she was special. when she put her head on the side and said 'oh max' there was a tingling feeling deep in my 8 year old self that I couldnt begin to explain.

This ones for all the first loves out there. Im dressed in my favourite 8 year old outfit. Gumboots, Lee jeans, a green scivvy and my long sleeve tigers jumper with 17 on the back. Im at the end of a musty mineshaft. I will only really taste the musty quartz clay that fills my throat, 20 years from now. A bottle of victorian highlands shiraz. Theres mouldy carpet, a couch that Peter Lalor must have left behind, a mummified greyhound and a caterers Milo tin stuffed with Beaver magazines. I dont know it, but this is my earliest nightclub experience. I feel very alone. I flick through a Beaver magazine and feel sick. I know in my heart that 99 wouldnt never allow anything like that to be done to her. A song fills my heart, 13 years before it is written.

If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go but I know
I'll think of you every step of the way

And I... will always love you, ooh
I will always love you
You
My darling you
Mmm-mm

Bittersweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So good-bye
Please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you, you need

And I...
Will always love you
I...
Will always love you
You, ooh

[Instrumental / Sax solo]

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness
But above all this I wish you love

And I...
Will always love you
I...
Will always love you
[Repeat]

I, I will always love
You....
You
Darling I love you
I'll always
I'll always
Love
You..
Oooh
Ooohhh

The greyhound has a strange puzzled grin. All is well in the world and 99 loves me back.

As a victim of domestic violence once upon another lifetime many years ago I find that very disturbing to read.

It's a disturbing world, rosy23. In the months that came I learned a lot about Lady Godiva. That's all implied in the story. I didn't write it up. I want you to feel it.

Factswise - it got very ugly.

Well. I'm in a choir. I can't sing and I hate everybody. All good. More to come.*

I bought the Transforner CD in May for reflection, and as it turns out to prove to my #3 boy that I didn't know anything about music. Even though I thought I did. He hated it.

Getting a song up for my Northcote choir is a miracle. Perfect Day could not happen yet it did.

I bought the record, then it was in choir, then on PRE. Freaky.

#1 son and I are natural adversaries but we never argue.

We agreed on many things last week, one that Barry Black (surprisingly) was the genius of his time -

You don't like it? You'll be back. 1998.

Transformer isn't my favourite LR cd either but I don't know how your #3 boy hating it proves you know nothing about music. I reckon it says more about him. Long live Lou. :hihi

This room's gettin' a little maudlin and reflective. Ain't nuthin' wrong with that in it's place but we're here for a good time, not a long one. Let's kick it up, kids.

I slick my hair back, pop my collar and hitch up my pants like I'm Danny Zuko at the hop. I'm channelling Chris Robinson and I'm possessed by Otis Redding as I launch at that mic:

Baby here I am
I'm the man on the scene
I can give you what you want
But you gotta' come home with me

I forgot some good old lovin'
And I got some more in store
When I get through throwin' it on you
You gotta' come back for more

Boys are things that come by the dozen
That ain't nothin' but drugstore lovin'
Pretty little thing let me light your candle
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle, now,
Gets around

Action speaks louder than words
And I'm a man of great experience
I know you've got another man
But I can love you better than him

Take my hand don't be afraid
I'm gonna prove every word I say
I'm advertising love for free
So you can place your ad with me

Boys come along a dime by the dozen
That ain't nothing but ten cent lovin'
Pretty little thing let me light your candle
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle, now,
Ask around

Baby here I am
A man on your scene
I can give you what you want
Just come on home with me

I forgot some good old lovin'
And I got some more in store
When I get through throwin' on you
You gonna' come running back for more

Boys will come along a dime by the dozen
That ain't nothin' but drugstore lovin'
Pretty little thing let me light your candle
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle, now,
Gets around

Oh

Hard

Hard to handle now

Yes I am

Guitar continues to wail as I swagger off stage and grab a couple of Martinis. Walk up to the table where rosy and her old man sit; pass her a drink, wink, and pass the other to him.

I stand, sling my leather jacket over my shoulder and make my exit, clicking my fingers like Fonzie to summon a blonde in bobby sox to nestle under each arm.

Later, groovers.

Great to have a bunch of awesome Kara Okayers pitchin up here for the punters since this old thread was resurrected.

Oldster, spook, Michael (great to hear ya up and about), tgw, snaps truly, snake, rosy, Mr Force, and Rfc77 with the Ju-87. Brilliant contributions.
