March To The Finals - 2020.

Maybe just having a down moment but after the positive vibes following the Dogs and Lions wins, I think we are going to struggle to get to the pointy end. Only Cotchin has returned from injury, and Caddy who has been dropped. Running out of time to get games into Houli and Edwards who’ve played 9 matches between them. Nankervis won’t be much help unless he returns better than he did last year, and Prestia is behind him in recovery. Astbury... who knows?

The current 22 ain’t winning the flag. Get over the Eagles and I’ll re-think it, but we need to have pretty much a clean slate with injuries from here. Without a fit Prestia and Edwards I don’t think we bat deep enough in the middle to win three (or four) finals.

I agree our midfield is a big issue for finals type pressure. Guys like Pickett just don't get enough of it. Ross and Graham keep going in and out so can get no consistency. Stack just not fit enough ( or doesn't have the engine) to roll through the middle. Edwards and Prestia are critical for our chances this year.

Hate is such a strong word. I actually wouldn't mind Pickett in a role if he could just be more consistent. I did mention 4 players in my post. But with Prestia and Edwards back I don't think Pickett gets a game because 11 disposals average as a midfielder doesn't really cut it. Do you not agree? I don't give Pickett as much slack because he's nearly 29 years old. We can't afford to wait to see if he will make it like we can with a Ross or Stack. He needs to perform now.

I concur with your thoughts. And Astbury and Prestia are tied for me; on the one hand I can imagine us getting by without Astbury as long as the midfield was applying enough pressure and prevented a flood of forward 50 entries to contend with, however without the grunt of Prestia I don’t think we will win the midfield battle. And Cotchin is only one tweak away from our campaign ending up in Trump territory.

I would contend 3rd in the norm smith on debut

is significantly superior to 11 marks in game 42 in a prelim.

but, I take your point.

Well sheesh, pretty sure that's what my original comment was about before my comment was cherry picked. My point was I see real risk in the quality of our midfield in finals type pressure. Too many bottom 6 players in that midfield. Imo based on what I've see with our midfield Prestia and Edwards are crucial for a realistic chance in finals.

I was as happy as anyone regarding Pickett's performance on grand final day. You couldn't have written the script any better.

we just disagree on where he sits in the importance order in our side.

I have him top 10, which is potentially only 6 spots from bottom 6

so, we should focus on our overlapping POV's

theres probably heaps more agree with you than me, which is sometimes a good indicator of who is closer to being correct

I only say sometimes, cause Donald Trump rules the world :D

Entitled to your opinion. One thing I will say is it's a lot harder on TV to see the worth of a less visible player. Pickett is in the side ahead of Ross, RCD, Caddy, Dow, Naish, Turner so he must be playing his role ok.
