Been reported that AFL and Rich FC did not see the CCTV vision prior to handing down the 4 week suspension. That is the issue - that all have now seen the vision which is shocking.

Most would have given Balta the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was provoked and that he wouldn't have punched a defenseless person who was on the ground. Hence why no grievances at the time of the 4 week sentence.

Reports r that had the AFL/Tigers seen the vision they would have handed down a greater sentence than 4 weeks.
Yze straight up stated the vision was totally consistent with how Balta had explained what happened

Matt Cronin is a star. Done a power of positive work after Pat's death. Have seen it firsthand.

The closer we get to it, the more uncomfortable I am with Balta playing while the case is still going.

Wait till this is all over in April.

I think we should wait an extra two weeks just to ease the burden on Noah, and give him a sense of earning his position on the team with a couple of weeks in the VFL.

But his situation has nothing to do with Pat's son whatsoever.

Noah never made the deadly decision to punch someone from behind.

Yep. Looked a hell of a lot worse than it actually was. Stupid n shitful action by Noah on the night and he's been copping a fair slapping for his mega brain fart.
This kinda *smile* used to happen on almost a weekly basis around the mob I grew up around way back in the dim dark ages. But have a good look at what happens around town now on a daily basis. The aggression and violence out and about on the streets is nightmarish compared to what Balta actually got up to, but because he's a " famous " AFL player the pile on by the meedjia n self righteous puritans is verging on hysterical.

There’s a “been reported” and a “reports r “ in here. Been reported by who? Where can we see it or read it?

I am not defending what happened but this constant speculation and discussion is exactly why it has been my opinion from the start that the vision should not have been released until after sentencing.

None of us has the expertise or experience to judge this, we must leave it to the processes. By processes I mean both, judicial and AFL/club

I am certain that if someone at the AFL felt like the penalty handed down by RFC was not sufficient after seeing the footage then they would have made that known. Equally if the club felt that way they would have increased the penalty.

That is not a value judgement on the length of his suspension btw.

I'm under the impression that all parties had seen the footage before a decision was made, but either way, it doesn't change anything since they had all the facts.

I'm not going to follow the media's capitalisation on this story, so I'll see you guys in the matchday thread lol

The way people are piling onto Balta it must be affecting his mental well-being. Wouldn’t surprise if he came out and said he’ll take some time away for personal reasons.
You think his mental health is bad now? Wait until he starts playing Melbourne and away games. The opposition crowds will Adam Goodes him with vengeance (and frankly what happened to Goodes might actually pale in comparison). More so if his act of thuggery doesn't get a custodial sentence and all he ends up serving is a four match ban. Hope he has a thick skin because he'll certainly need it.

Pretty normal to dismiss someone for screwing up. In the mines we sack someone for failing a daily mandatory alcohol breath test.
Do they sack people for in their own time, outside of work hours, having a drink and being involved in a barny at the pub?

Just trying to compare apples to apples.

I'm no lawyer. I'm no judge! I'm sure as hell no footy exec! But it's good to know that almost every member of AFL sanctioned and non-AFL sanctioned media is!! They are universally "uncomfortable" with Balta playing for the next 12 years! I think some are uncomfortable with their flapping gums being ignored too. Balta obviously needs to be hung drawn and halved in a pre-match ceremony with fireworks and Tina Arena singing "We Can't Be Beaten'. It'll cost 19.99 to stream.

There is another aspect here. Those calling for Balta to be delisted or a further suspension are ignoring double jeopardy. He is being tried and will be sentenced for the offence by the courts, this is the appropriate place to do this. The suspension is an indirect punishment which would be related to AFL rules and his contract conditions. To delist or extend the suspension on the basis of what he did would be to try him twice for the same offence.

He isn't on trial in the AFL. They are his employers

Wonder what Sydney Stack's making of all this? Guess Balta's lucky he didn't also order a kebab afterwards.

That is precisely the point.

His employer cannot sanction him for the act, they can only sanction him for something in the AFL rules (bringing the game into disrepute or some such thing) or in his contract. To do so would be double jeopardy which is when someone gets penalised twice for the same offence.

I can see both sides, he did a very bad thing but now hope he is going to be ok as well in due course. Grog can equal big mistakes.

But the hyperbole - Caro’s opening line on one of those shows, don’t remember exact quote but she drew the families and kids aspect into it. ‘Noah Balta may make his return in Adelaide in front of families and kids at this event’. Etc etc

A variation of the old "I have mothers approaching me on the street all the time telling me they won't let little Johnny play the game anymore because of this..." BS pioneered by the late Rugby League journalist Peter Frilingos (whom some here might remember from the early days of The Back Page on Fox Sports)
