Our Best team

It's a fun exercise but we'll get a much better idea of Dimma's plan over the next two weeks..

My sense is the emphasis will be on skill & pace over pressure & marking space.

All preseason we've been training the short kick & fast ball movement to take advantage of the stand rule. If you can't beat them join them. We needed to adjust to counter a rule designed to nobble our strength.

If you can't hit a target reliably, you're in trouble with the way the game has shifted & we've carried quite a few poor disposers on a game plan built on pressure & chaos. Pressure isn't redundant completely but it's gone from A to B in terms of importance.

I'm particularly hoping Stack's game improves as I want him in the side but he wouldn't be on last week's showing. We watch the practice matches with interest.

A lot of these sides need to be tweaked if opponents play 3 mobile talls on their forward line.

Short Tarrant Grimes
Baker Broad Vlaustin
Pickett Martin McIntosh
Edwards Jack Lambert
Bolton Lynch Stack
Nank Cotchin Prestia

Balta D.Rioli Costagna Graham

Balta as backup ruck/3rd tall forward.

Interesting of all the teams listed only one has Mansell in the 22 and only one more even as Emergency.

Leysy is against that and actually thinks he's a lock for starting the year in the 18 and taking best small each week. His spot to lose. Torched Stacky in the intra club.

Leysy's guess for Round 1:

Grimes Tarrant Mansell
Vlastuin Broad Rioli
Kmac Chimp Short
Baker Balta Edwards
Jack Lynch Bolton
Nank Dusty Prestia

Inter - Pickett, George, Ross, Gibcus

EMERG - Stack (sub) Soldo, Hugo

On assumption Lablett and Graham aren't fit. Not sure Soldo starts first up off a knee (next two weeks will tell his tale). Hopefully Syd can also force his way in.

Grimes Tarrant Miller

Rioli Vlaustin Broad

Short Prestia Ralphsmith

Edwards Balta Baker

Bolton Lynch Riewoldt
Nank Martin Cotchin

INT: Ross Picket RCD Mansell
E: Castagna Caddy McIntosh Soldo

Not sure Soldo starts first up off a knee

It's been 18 months since Soldo did his knee, speaking to Maric he said the couple of little setbacks Soldo had was probably the best thing for him as it put paid to any temptation to rush him back and his knee now fully healed.
If match committee want to play 2 rucks they will have no hesitation about Soldo's knee.

Yeah no doubt they are confident it won't hinder him mate.

But he'll have only had 2 scratch matches in 18 months, it will understandably take him a while to get match fit, in-form and confident.

Thus why wouldn't be surprised if they build on those things via the VFL first. We'll have ruck cover via Balta as well.

No tassie blinkers there Leysy? :p

Leysy? Never!!!!

I think the OP is best team not R1 team, what's your best team?

Best team, same as above but change - Lablett, Graham and Soldo in for Ross, Pickett and Gibcus.

Always players injured though and hopefully Stack, Gibcus, Brown, RDC, Caddy, MRJ, Dow, Ryan, Martyn, Parker, Cumberland, Clarke, Sonsie, Hugo, Miller, Buggy etc push their way in with string form.

Graham and Lambert are the two senior players that are not locks for round one.

Along with Soldo these 3 will determine how many juniors play and as to what they do with Noah.

Their (Fridge and Lambo's) possible replacements will be given their chance to impress over the next 2 practice games most likely RCD, Ross, Hugo and Stack at this stage will be vying for their places if they cant make it.

Best team is even more difficult.

If Ivan misses selection for round 1 it might simply be due to the fact the Blues have no Rucks of note.

If McKay too is likely to miss that will also probably make the RFC go with an extra runner and Noah relief rucking.
