Pick 29: Shai Bolton

Step 1
Get rid of the blonde tips
Step 2
Get to training today and practice the ball drop . Can’t have the ridiculous situation of last night of kicking around the corner when you are 23.5 metres out from goal directly in front . Also hands on top and bottom of ball is completely flawed . Why hasn’t anyone corrected this is behind belief . Shai is a star player with awesome skills , but you need to do the basics right . Any player who can’t kick a straight kick from 30 metres out has some serious issues . He even lays back on the kick

Still a star and genuine match winner , the thing is when your a match winner you can also be a match loser.

Im still hoping the graph goes up by simply minimising the basic errors , imho very overrated in the foot skill department.

I think will se a match winning performance next week .

Last night proved how important he is to us , we need Shai to play well often.

He’s a team oriented guy and will be feeling the draw this morning. He’ll know he stuffed up.

Looks at the scoreboard too much. Needs a few sessions with Emma Murray to keep his head in the game.

Commentators put more ooomph in GOSASOS' mark last night than this MOTY:

Was looking at his new hair do . Lots of Hollywood about Shai . Needs to stop . You’re right , needs head in the game . Not on the big screen

Yep that was a brilliant mark by Shai & if Jeremey Howe had taken it we'd barely hear the end of it. But the commentators underminned it for whatever reason.
Brief, more like surprised, yell from Brayshaw, but that's it. Amazing. As bad as Draper given GOTY last season compared to Shai's creative one.

Dont expect changes cos Hardwick doesn't give a *smile* going by the press conference.
Good coaches don't roast their players in the media. You can bet Dimma will speak to him about it. As he said, the onus is on the player to kick the goal. Shai didn't, and has missed more than he should. It will be addressed.

Why is how he chooses to style his hair an issue? Seriously. Does everyone have to be boring?

FFS letting players be themselves has won us 3 flags. Whingeing about his hair is *smile* stupid.

The guy is a generational talent, yeh frustarting at times but he's still a kid.

Don't give a flying .... about players hair choices, but when you've got talent to burn just take an extra 5 seconds to actually concentrate on the task at hand and execute. Drop punt, across the body - I reckon 90% of AFL players can slot those kicks at training backwards over their head. But for whatever reason theres a few (shai isn't alone) that rush during a pressure moment and so get too close to man on mark, fluff the ball drop, get off balance etc when they just need to chill and execute - whatever their preferred method is.

Jack is so good of recent years at stopping and methodically going through his action - including across body (even when not required). Reckon Dusty is better at slowing down a bit too and at least getting 10m back from the mark before playing on. They should share their thoughts with some others

Shai has the potential to be one of the top five or six players in the league if he can tidy up his finishing. He just misses too many easy goals he should kick. Dusty in his prime and even now always nailed the key chances like Shai had in the last.

What’s with the banana kicks when 20-30m out on slight angles
Need to only kick drop punts enough with the lairising
Plenty of players do them now, that's not the problem though. It's the little grey bit between the ears that makes you go back, take a breath or two n focus on what you still need to do to finish the job. Shai too often just faffs around twitches n bangs the ball on his boot as if he's having a few beers n playing kick to kick down the park with often similar results.

Yes but it's a bit like a golfer who smashes it 300 yards up the guts but misses 3 foot putts all the time. No point lasering one to 3 foot from the pin if you can't make the putt.
Yep. The old drive for show n putt for dough. Always comes down to the ability to finish the job, unfortunately Shai's got brilliant show in pretty much all aspects of the game bar the little cherry on top of finishing consistently.

I would suggest that the club has been working on it ever since he got to the club.
Suggest they haven’t when he one hand at the bottom of the ball and the other at the top . Then he leans back and doesn’t kick through the ball . Mmmmmmmm

Interesting to see what happens next week if he is straight in front having a set shot
