Possible Late Picks

Whats the consensus on where Chris Cain will go.

We'd be mad to overlook him if he's there at 50.

Would start Rd 1 & get 18 plus games with us next year if we take him ILO. The guy can really play.

He will be thereabouts, and agree, perfect replacement for White.

Picks 50 & 66

Pic 50 think Nick Robertson would be a good get, a mid who is hard at it and has great endurance. Strong overhead and doesn't mind kicking a goal....191 cms, 18 years old, 88 kgs can also play as a hard running back....

Pic 66 seems we will use this pick on Nathan Batsanis (VFL layer) who is a pacy mid/winger, 25 years old, 180 cms

Re: Picks 50 & 66

Couple of 200 gamers FJ has tucked away in Tassie or Kununurra or somewhere.

Re: Picks 50 & 66

Doubt Robertson is there. Is a first round prospect on talent. WA teams won't let him get to 50. WC desperately need big mids and Freo love big mids.

Is he really that pacy? And I would have thought we'd be better using a rookie pick, there's very little chance he'll be picked up by another club.

Well yes he does posses pace but not saying he is lids or Matty white super quick....agree I'd rather pick him up as a rookie but the club may feel that he'd go in the early picks of the rookie draft and have probably settled on grabbing him, hence they are likely to use pic 66

Correct me if I'm wrong but do we have to give him 2 years if he's picked up in the ND?

Not sure i thought mature age players taken late you could sign for one year but i could well be wrong....
If the requirement is 2 years they might still do it barring in mind base wages....

No I don't believe so.

Not if they are mature age.

Btw I would have thought Batsanis wouldn't be worth anything more than a late rookie spot.

yep, i'd be surprised if we use our last pick on him.

yep last pick should definitely be used on a skinny untried 18 year old who probably wont make the grade. ;D

Seriously though, if the draft is as shallow as some media make out, perhaps a mature body might be the safer way to go. Although a mature body isn't a guarantee either. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

I know you jest but I've even a strong proponent of SLR (even Batsanis way before this week) and think the logic of "wasting" latter picks on skinny 18 yr olds is often folly. Just for the record.

I think pick 50 should be used on a flea type

Ben Cavarra is one who I think we could pick up very late, he won the Morrish and was best afield in the TAC cup final. As to why he was not invited to the combine has baffled me. Mitch Honeychurch is the same size but 5 kg lighter than Cavarra, so it couldn't purely be based on physical stature. His carnival was also decent averaging 22 touches and he knows how to win the contested ball. If guys like Hrovat can get picked up as early 2nd rounders, there's no reason why Cavarra can't be given a rookie spot.

The Morrish doesnt seem a great predictor. Only 4 winners in 20 odd years have made a decent impact at AFL (lenny hayes, nathan brown, kreuzer, heppell). I wonder why?
