It isn't just the clearances which matter, it is how we impact on the opposition clearances when they get the ball. You notice when we play badly that the opposition clearances are high quality into their forward 50. When we play well the opposition might get clearances but they are under pressure and allow our defence to repel the attack.

There are clearances, and there are clearances: if you can pressure opposition clearances so they are low quality they have far less impact.

Agree with this. Taps into the idea there are two ways to be better than your opposition...

- get better yourself
- make them worse

Everyone does both, it took time for us to become the best at the second one. In 2013-2015 we were close to being a top 4 team. In 2016, our obsession was to score 2 more goals per game. From 2017, we became magicians at making the opposition play worse in every part of the ground.

Like you said, one of the ways we make them worse is how we let certain types of clearances through.

Early in the wet, it seemed like Geelong had a few good first possession clearances... they were fast, unpredictable, hard to influence. But when the weather dried up, they went for their 2nd or 3rd possession clearances and were less effective. They became easier to influence, more predictable, etc.

I have no idea how we make their clearances worse, but Prestia (and Cotchin/Edwards in particular) must be doing something right!

Prestia, Lambert, Martin Edwards seem to rotate mid forward same as Bolton, all guns, Prestia might be the second best of the lot,

Smart, Tough, Quick, Agile, goal kicking inside outside midfielder who lifts a cog in big finals, and kicks goals.

Basically the meat ball, is a big mac !

I reckon Dion deserves better than "meat ball", he's so much better than that, filet mignon would be much more appropriate.

When people talk of our midfield it’s always Dusty and the Skip who get mentioned first and fair enough, both Brownlow medalist and both 2 of the best we’ve had, however even though our midfield is the best drilled combination/ team of mids , our 3rd and 4th mids Prestia and Shedda are equally underrated and have only a very small mids who you could argue a better.

I'd reckon a carpet bag steak. Perfect eye fillet, stuffed with oysters!

Accompanied by a 389.

Nah, lose the oysters (sorry, can't stand seafood) and go with a 707 ;)

Prestia is just an amazing centre and essential to what we do, so glad he made it back for the end of the season.

Back in the day before FBT, 1628 was a good lunch.

Dusty might be Sir Finals but Meatball isn't that far behind him.

Inspired recruitment. Just so clean below his knees and the grass, all 22 cms of it.

I was lucky enough to snare his match day guernsey in the auction yesterday - the price reflects the comments above - a little underrated which was reflected in the price is my view

Loving your work Captain Blood.

What a very astute move getting Dion to the RFC has been. He has battled his body the whole time he has been with us, we are so much better when he is in the side.

In no particular order, Meatball, Shedda and Nank.............a few handy inclusions just before the finals.
Thank you, tm. I reckon Dion was a ways off his peak for the GF but he was very valuable. He's attacking. They gotta watch him. And he's handy to the fall. Worker. I love the bloke. Ripping addition to our list.

BTW Dion is so good he has never been All Aust. Let's hope he continues to surpass that damnable faint praise.

Apparently he was at about 75-80% fit for the GF. Still a gun at that fitness level.
