QF Game Day - Richmond vs Brisbane Lions

Can't believe the amount of bitching in this thread.

Boo hoo Fagan said this, Hodge said that, the commentators said this, someone tweeted that, the umpires did this.

You guys really need to stop sweating the small stuff and enjoy the big picture.

We are into a home preliminary final, which is almost as hard to make as a Grand Final. We should be celebrating, not outraged.
I'll do it when the media does it. By the way, weren't you part of all this? It's a forum what else would you expect?

Another interesting stat I read this morning was this is the first time in the clubs history we have made three consecutive prelims. Another massive tick for Dimma

Fagan and all the other coaches need to forget about winning stats. They all keep quoting various measures they won on the night. Yet they almost look confused as to how they lost.

That's the feeling i had listening Fagan.
He pointed out all the critical stats they won.
But somehow they still managed to lose the game by 47pts.

He sounded frustrated.
Bit like everything he learnt about coaching and how to win has been thrown out the window when you play the Tigers.
But we won it on the stats graph, but still lost.
This doesn't make sense.

We had a long wait to the game and there's a long wait to the next one, and everything's going to get analysed. We're all rapt at coming from behind in a potential danger game and winning with such aplomb.

Not sure how long you've been a Tiger but we've taken a lot of whacks over the journey, and we're still getting them from some quarters.

Hardwick went through this stage five years ago to the point that the nickname Statwick was coined.

Luckily for us he moved on from using the stats to make meaningless points and Fagan needs to learn from this and move on also.

As I said during the game the commentators barrack for the story.

At the start of the game, Brisbane winning after a 10 year finals drought was the story. Towards the end of the game the narrative shifted to how good Richmond is, because that became the story.

Grimes faked being knocked over to try and reverse a free kick and sucked the umpire in, saving what was likely a goal at a key moment.
It was clever but clearly staging and he is obviously embarrassed about it now. I suspect he will come out and say something about it. Of course people are going to talk about it. He will cop his whack for a day or two and people will move on. No big deal.

I understand people discussing issues, what I don't get is the 10 or so pages since the siren being almost full of whinging about this stuff instead of celebrating the win. It is almost like some posters can't enjoy footy unless they are complaining about it.
I'm sure more than 95% of this forum is enjoying our win. Whatever the media comes out with will always be whinged/discussed/analysed on here. Not sure what you're problem is.

Agree.
After all said and done. The commentators and the opposition coach provide their opinion on the game, nothing more.

And opinions are like noses, everybody has one. (Cleaned up for this family forum)

The facts are all that count. And the main fact is the full time scoreboard.

We're in the preliminary final and the Lions have to fight through next week against the GWS. (Fact)

You can celebrate whilst at the same time calling out f^kwits who try and denigrate our performances and achievements with out and out falsehoods. I’d say everyone posting is rapt with our performance and also that we are into a PF; it was an awesome win. I have no problem with sticking it up the haters; *smile* em all I say!

As for Grimes; he has nothing to apologise for or be embarrassed about. Sure he put a bit of mayo on it but that stuff has been going on for 100 years and more. He still got hit when he wasn’t ready for it; completely unnecessary by Hipwood. IMO the reversal was poetic justice. It was a *smile* free kick to Cameron; nothing in it and it was only paid due to the orchestrated media campaign by the likes of Jonathon Brown, Yobbo and Paul Roos to give the Lions a leg up. Not too mention Fagan, Cameron and other Lions players bleating about it in the media for 2 weeks. It as all set up so the umpires would pay an early free kick to love child Cameron and of course they didn’t let anyone down.

Carn the Tigers:clap2

Not much spoken about success of ruck duo. Imo it was a resounding success. 49 hit-outs to 39,18 to advantage to 13. Last game it was 39 to 41, 9 to advantage to 10. It was all about wearing opposition rucks down and maintaining a strong presence and I think we did that very well. Not to forget that Nanks has had limited preparation too and will be much better for that run. Both ruckmen played approx 60% game time as predicted.
Nando's are tasting good.

Yeah it’s was like “ we did everything right? We won all the stats, I don’t know what happened”

Richmond have been ‘losing’ stats for a while now but winning games of football. We value a very different set of stats to the rest of the AFL community
It was deja vu of 2017 when everyone played the tigers and had no idea what just them. Poor old Salty and Pikey haven't recovered.

Fagan was clearly asleep in 2017.

I’ve never watched a game with commentators so openly barracking for one side. It’s the worst possible lineup of commentators. Ling Darcy and Braydhaw. What a trifecta of wankers.
You are so right. Everyone in a Brisbane jumper was either superb, magic, magnificent or skilled.
Any Tiger was just called as "got the ball" or nothing other than silence.

Watched the game on the M ajestic Princess with the wife who is a Lions supporter. Today the cold shoulder but who cares. Lads keep playing like that will be hard to be beaten from here on. Dusty rally got his mojo back.

Even supercoach Clarko and his new boss Bolts travelled up to see how it all works.... clearly unashamed to join Buckley as a newly franked 'Dimma Disciple'!

lol at listening to fox sports replay at half time review. Poor Eddie can't accept the fact that Tigers were winning putting all the blame on Lions kicking for goal and no credit to Tigers. He's scared of potentially meeting the Tigers if they make GF. And Roos, geez, that's one sour case. The only half logical commentator is Dermie.

Could've been having a look at Ellis. Did they stay until the end?

After a slow start Ellis has had a pretty decent year but struggled under pressure last night.

Some interesting stats out of the centre bounces:

- Dusty only competed twice in centre bounces in 2nd half.
- Until half way through the last qtr, Prestia competed in every centre bounce except 1 (25 of them)
- Graham attended centre bounces 11 times standing against 5 different players (McCluggage, Berry, Neale, Zorko, Rayner)
- Other centre bounce attendees (Cotchin 10, Edwards 18, Bolton 4, Caddy 1)

Very interesting was kickouts. Not one kickout from behind for Houli. Main kicker was Short but all of Vlastuin, Astbury, Broad, Baker, Grimes had a go. Obviously a strong directive for Houli not to kick out.

Edit: Oops forgot to add centre bonce ruck contests

- Q1 Soldo 7 Nanks 1
- Q2 Soldo 4 Nanks 1
- Q3 Soldo 5 Nanks 5
- Q4 Soldo 2 Nanks 4

Exactly as I expected, Soldo to do the hard work in first part of the game and Nanks to weigh in the 2nd half as opponents tire. Worked a treat.

The team filed past me at Brisbane Airport as I stood in line at the bag drop while they went straight through priority screening.

They all looked really happy.

Shorty was carrying some crutches which worried me but I couldn't see anyone limping.

Shouted out "Onya Jack" to JR. No response.

A few minutes later Balmy walked past so I shouted out "Good on yer Balmy!" He looked over and smiled and I raised a triumphant fist and his eyes slid off me and started scanning the nearby shop counters for potential vanilla slices.

Wasn't able to go to the game as I was at a wedding - pure coincidence I was in Brissie at the same time. But I'm glad I saw the lads.

My daughter wants to become a physio so she can massage Dustin's legs... :help
