Samson Ryan

If he does make it as a number 1 ruck, he will be one of the very few that can play forward and kick goals. Big Rick.

I watched a fair bit of Witts when he was at the pies and thought he was pretty useless and had no chance of ever being a decent player. Guessing it wasn’t until he was 26 or so that he came good for GCS. Hopefully Ryan is similar.

I've been saying for years we do not respect the ruck position. We never think about drafting rucks anywhere under pick 50, and the ones we do pick up have basically never played football! We are gonna pay the price for this soon.
Alot of clubs do what we do.
Collingwood pissed off a ruckman that was AA quality and picked up a cheap one in Cameron and they win a flag.
Ruckman besides Gawn and Goldstein are like gold, hard to find.
Jackson and Marshall are the prototype of the 2024 ruckman.
Look at Geelong they won a flag with Stanley.
I prefer we didn't use quality picks on a ruckman, just pinch one that is playing 2nd fiddle at another club.

Hawthorn used to do that successfully, and it’s very similar to what we did with Nank.

Yep - we won three flags with Nank the reject and Soldo the project player.
We haven't made our own true ruckman since mark Lee.
We have a million come from other clubs.
Dear Knoble Hampson Maric Marsh ODwyer
The best we got are Nakas Charles and Dear

This is the Ryan thread and we DID draft Ryan at 40 and he had played football before.

If you take a look at the best rucks from all 18 teams and where they were drafted, this is the area to draft rucks.

National draft picks
Witts - 67, Stanley - 47, Grundy - 18, De Koning - 30, Cameron - 48, Briggs - 34, English - 19, Darcy - 38, Nank - 35, Goldstein - 37, Xerri - 72, Meek - 69, Williams 35, Gawn 34
Mean = 42, Median = 36. Right around the area we drafted Ryan.

3 rookies picks also in Marshall, McInerney and Soldo.

How high do you expect to be drafting rucks?

Bryan from Essendon is the one we should target

Angus Graham was a star !

They’ve done it again with Meek who looks a good player

Samson Ryan (eight disposals, four contested possessions, 18 hit-outs, three clearances)

“Samson had a really big battle up against Tom Campbell after Sam (Naismith) went down and he tried hard, there's no doubt about that, but a bit of experience probably did win out in that battle. Looking forward to seeing him continually crack in whether it's in the ruck or up forward.”

Morris makes himself very clear in his public review. He's looking forward to seeing Samson crack in. Brutal.

Let's see how the turk responds.

Might be meeting Bryan this week, Sin.

Doesn’t sound like the words of someone about to get promoted does it?

It's sounds like someone about to get demoted, scoop. Over the past two weeks Morris has said "Talentless" then "Bludger." I'm calling it lack of focus a la Minson. Morris is less charitable.
