What l find amusing is,some people talk about the ignore function, and yet don't use it and continue calling people racist etc .

I like hearing from both sides of the aisle, in a politically neutral forum.

Hard to find, to be honest.

PRE would lose a little without that.

Also, I don't really understand how this site is monetised, if at all, but I imagine you'd lose a lot of traffic for 6 months a year.

The real solution to all of this is to get the players playing longer seasons.

I like hearing different views, different perspectives of politics and life - we don’t get that anymore.

Agree with others that I do learn about things I am not aware of and different perspectives help with my own world view.

You choose which threads to read, you choose what and when you want to post, would be disappointed in PRE became 1 dimensional.

Also, reckon at times their is more angst on the trading and drafting threads and for the most part, PREtenders are pretty respectful.

I voted keep it open.

I guess some of us dont think racism is something that should be ignored.

But without knowing how much work this section creates, i agree with those who have said keep it open so the discussions can stay here, and kept away from other threads, and away from those posters who arent interested.

I have not seen any direct racist comments ,yet l have seen plenty of the keyboard warrior brigade make assumptions that someone is racist etc.

I think if the religion/politics section is continued ,it has to be moderated better, you also have to look at the legality that someone may cross the line with the wrong person one day .

It's a football website .

There's a whole forum n bunch of threads dedicated to the footy side of life. Then there's another forum n bunch of threads dedicated to *smile* like politics, movies, music n kabooming people. Everyone gets to choose their poison and play in whatever forums they like. There's a highlighted heading on every thread that gives an indication as to what the discussion is about, pick and choose where you want to go and don't complain if it doesn't suit you, move on n look elsewhere on PRE, there's plenty of other stuff to think about and discuss. Hate the idea of shutting down discussions just because some people insist on playing 3 wise monkeys n hiding under the doona all their lives.

Due to many reports this thread poses more problems for PRE as a website and as a community.

So I propose a vote, which will be open for 7 days before the result is actioned.

The essence of this vote appears to me to be (and correct me if I am wrong) that our Mods, who freely volunteer their time to keep this running and often put their hard earned in to it as well, are struggling with the amount of issues this thread generates.

While I am all for free speech, freedom of thought and everything else, it concerns me that the Mods are having to spend a significant amount of their valuable time on a thread the is not what the site is essentially about.

I love this site, and would hate to see it close down.

I think we all need to be mindful that this site is about the mighty RFC, and footy related discussion. I'd rather close this thread than even contemplate the possibility of losing that.

If people feel that strongly that this thread be retained, I think they should consider volunteering to moderate the thread.

Only thing wrong with this thread or any other thread, is when the punters on the thread start hurling insults n abusing other posters. Have the discussions, place your point of view good, bad or indifferent but leave the insults n derision for the face to face over the drip tray gatherings. That way the mods don't have to do any work.

is when the punters on the thread start hurling insults n abusing other posters.

But is serious abuse? I mostly see 'woke' 'apologist' 'racist' 'socialist' 'communist' 'nazi'

Avoid the board, use ignore, toughen up

I personally try not play the man or woman and ive never reported anyone

But ive got half a dozen on ignore.

I also got summarily excecuted on the adam goodes thread back in the day. From memory i called the moderator and site owner? racist.

Now if you cant say racist and racism on the adam goodes thread, you might as well shut her down.

It would be akin to making 'fend' a banned word on the dustin martin thread

Everyone has different levels of what they deem to be nasty personal attack which can make things difficult.
I'm pretty much in the old school don't complain n don't explain dept on life views. Don't have anyone on ignore n don't squawk to the mods if things get a tad niggly. Find that nearly everyone has some comments worth listening to most of the time n more than happy to poke a few ribs n annoy people just for fun at times.
Always amuses me that so many people can get so outraged and het up about so much *smile* going on around the world that absolutely no-one can actually do anything about except waste zillions of dollars n zillions of hours of life time going around and around in circles for nil result.

I’ve learnt a lot on this thread. Really hope it stays. You can certainly get some reasonable debate on these topics.

I find the thread informative and interesting. We have some well-read and insightful contributors.
There can, however, be a pile-on effect with some topics. It usually happens when someone makes a post, then others read in what they wish and the discussion can descend into personal abuse.

Happy for it to stay.

I read topical issues on the thread but rarely post anymore.

Are there indirect racist comments? What is the difference?

Hopefully by engaging in this thread posters can get educated (like I have) about what is offensive/racist etc.

I freely admist to being an ignorant casual racist for most of my life. This thread has definitely helped me consider other points of view and hopefully think a little more deeply about the issues discussed.
