Gotta say that what happened when he was a. A big mucka at a Co and b. In a position of power to make sure said Co got awarded projects doesn't look great at all.

Neither does the speed of his resignation.

The PM has brought back the title of Knight and Dame, without consulting the party or Cabinet. Very innovative move.

He has also tabled his intent to change the title of 'Australian citizen' to 'Australian subject'.

PM Tony Abbott rules out reinstating Knights and Dames in Oz

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH DECEMBER 22, 2013 12:00AM

HE restored an oath of allegiance to the Queen when he was sworn in as Prime Minister, but Tony Abbott has ruled out bringing back Knights and Dames in Australia.

Monarchists including David Flint and Alexander Downer have mused that the PM is such a traditionalist that he may follow New Zealand's lead and bring back knighthoods.

But critics within the Liberal Party have savaged the idea of as an attempt to introduce a "bunyip aristocracy''.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Abbott said he did not support the idea, which would involve converting the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) to Knighthoods or reintroducing a new regal honour.

"It's true that some people have said to me: 'What about doing what New Zealand did','' Mr Abbott said.

"But I don't think it would be practical to just rebadge ACs. There was a rarity to their AC equivalent which made it easier for them to do this."

Asked if Sydney radio broadcaster and friend Alan Jones had pushed the idea, Mr Abbott said he had not.
"No, no, no. Just a bit of chatter. I don't think New Zealand is a relevant model here.

"The problem is they just basically converted there ACs into knighthoods. I just don't think that's realistic in this country.

"Look, I am pleased that we've got Sir David Smith and Sir Rod Eddington. Good to see Sir Bradley Wiggins as a result of things he did in the United Kingdom.

"I don't mind having Knights and Dames around. We've thankfully still got a few."

John Howard is understood to have rejected the idea of reinstating Knights and Dames on the grounds that the endless chopping and changing was undermining the dignity of the honour.

Many of his advisers also believed the Liberal Party would be mocked and seen as out of touch with modern Australia.

I can't believe I got this all wrong, Abbott isn't taking us back to the 1950's, he's taking us back to the 1850's.

Had a chuckle at 7 news ..."Arise Sir Pository of Wisdom" in regard to Abbott dubbing himself. Unbelievable that anyone could make such a decision without consulting anyone...even more unbelievable that they'd do it after ruling it out. Do those who like to take personal cracks at Labor supporters think Tony has done the right thing here?

No. 1 well lets just see here....mmmm (sound of crickets in an open field). Yep that just abouts sums up what this bozo and his clown offsiders have done.

:P so bloody true. I'd go further and say he's actually set us back a fair bit.

Don't get me going on this clown TS. At least Turnball has got some sort of brains - would of been a much better option for not only them but this country as a whole. The rest of his twits are fodder.

yeah I like Turnbull. He's a funny one. Poor bastard picked the wrong party, he's a republican and supports a carbon price. I like that he's not ideologically driven. He didn't like the ALP factions apparently, which I can understand, but he quickly found out the Libs are just as bad, they just disguise it better. I agree, they are a bunch of talentless, petty, lazy, clowns.

Is the speaker allowed to go "hear hear" after (dodgy) govt points? I was listening to parliament yesterday, and I could of sworn BB was hear hear'ing after Abbott.

If it wasnt this lot of libs, i would say I misheard.

surely thats not on?

While they unfortunately never are, I believe the Speaker is supposed to 'act' in an impartial manner while at work.

I'm surprised that no-one has brought up the great news that it's okay to be a bigot, who spouts out language which people may (or even will) find offensive.

As Simply Red sang... "turning back the years..."

Queen’s man John Howard would refuse Abbott’s Sir John title

Holy snapping duck sh!t, J Winston says no? J Winston says Tony's latest brain fart is too "anachronistic"?

*WARNING* rant to follow

So the women doing the ironing, too many dicks in the cabinet, the appearance at the "ditch the witch" rally, the support for bigot and bully Alan Jones, the constantly letting Bernardi away with being a douche, being Bob Santamaria's spank bank poster boy, the anti-marriage-equality thing, the wrecking of The Great Barrier Reef, exporting Tasmania's world class forests as low grade wood chips because god would have wanted us to...but DAMES and KNIGHTS is what makes him "anachronistic".

So the LNP now want to stop any UN investigation into Sri Lankan war crimes, how low can this mob go?

it is understandable tho. it wouldnt look great if the navy/army we gave warships to was found to have murdered innocent people, the same innocent people the ships are designed to stop fleeing.
