Talking Politics

"We had a bit of that up in Port Moresby," Mr Abbott replied, to which Mr Dutton said: "Time doesn't mean anything when you're about to be, you know, have water lapping at your door."

Mr Abbott laughed awkwardly before Social Services Minister Morrison cautioned: "There's a boom up there", in reference to the microphone hanging just above Mr Dutton's head.

Mr Dutton noticeably stiffened in response and later brushed off questions when asked about the quip at a later press conference,

How could you not see a huge boom microphone two feet above your head. Pretty much sums up this government's connection with reality.

So if they give Toned Abs the flick, can the conservatives stomach Malcolm T as the new leader? The right of the party hates him. On the flip side he's popular with middle Australia and could save them the next election.

Scott Morrison is thoroughly unlikeable, Julie Bishop might be OK and popular with voters, but does she really want it?

Also, on Bishop, is any party ready to risk a female leader so soon?

I think your point on Turnbull is a good one. There is no doubt a lot of his party aren't fans BUT he is right up there with he polls well in surveys conducted, and could help them stay in power or, at the least, stop them from copping a massive slapping.

Not sure which option I would like to happen more, and then I think of Shorten and just shake my head, again...

The scary part is that as of now between 45 and 48% of Australians would vote for him as PM, according to a number of different polls.

No they don't. This is not America. They vote for the Liberal Party. Check out any of the polls about preferred leader of the Liberal Party and Abbott is usually last. Unfortunately he is very good at politics and getting numbers in his own party to the detriment of the country.

The challenge is on !!! Malcolm has stepped down from the ministry and is making an announcement now.

Terrible timing with respect to the Canning by election - or maybe genius. I don't even know any more.

If MT gets in Labor will spew up!!

Thank god.

Indeed, hopefully the goon squad of Brandis, Dutton, Pyne, Hockey & Joyce get their marching orders. What a terrible government this has been, in 2 short years they have left a trail of destruction, nothing built, no innovation, just petty partisan politics.

Failed last time. Will it work now?

And they criticised Rudd and Gillard for doing this.

Add Christopher Pyne and Eric Abetz.
Both fail Richo's pub test.

hmmmm, interesting.

Malc must be sure he has the numbers if he'd made this move.
OR
He's so embarrassed to be the spokesman on the Lib's destruction of the NBN that he's decided he can't do it anymore

If there is a challenge I wonder if the right will push Morrision out there to contest has a means to stop Malc in the middle taking over

Sky news reporting that Abboat is basically finished. Bishop has jumped ship along with a lot of backbenchers who don't want to see their seats lost at the next election.

They are also saying that Turnbull has had to confirm he will toe the party line on same sex marriage, the republic and climate change to get support.

I am no great Turnbull fan but we have to get rid of Tony

Well, I hope his promises are Canberra promises and not real promises. Those three items are key to his winning over a fair chunk of ALP/Green voters which would keep him in power and Shorten out

Your move Labor.

A Liberal shift to the left will neutralize Shorten.

Time for Albo.

If Labor doesn't recognize this they are more *smile* than I thought. Please Labor, be smart.

Shocked to be sitting here agreeing with Carts, but I agree.

It's gonna be a tough gig for Malcolm if he has to bite down his natural inclinations as PM, particularly on climate change. Also makes it harder for him to move the party to the centre, and he'll have half a backbench who hates him. Should have joined the labor party and been a fiscally responsible social progressive like Keating.

The unknown is how the great unwashed will react - they didn't like Gillards "disloyalty".

Not sure what to make of that, there's quite a few in the party who believe climate change is a communist conspiracy, can't see Turnbull kowtowing to these types. Abbott has set out to destroy the renewables industry, Turnbull will surely bring some sanity back to the table.

If Turnbull asembles a decent cabinet then I will have no issue voting LNP, it's the anti-science christian fascists who are dragging the country down the S-bend. There's still some decent moderate politicians waiting for their chance, we certainly can't do much worse.
