Talking Politics

How strange was it watching Chaser's Media Circus last night and Peter Greste being shown his jailmates were pardoned live on air. At first I thought it was another regular stunt by the show.

.... I'm not big on unions, in fact the quicker Labor arm lengths itself from the unions the better for Australia. But we should also recognize the powerful influence the big end of town has on the Liberal Party.

Meanwhile, middle class Australians, the very heart beat of this nation because our economy depends on their confidence and spending can go and get knotted as long as the unions get their way and/or the big end of town gets their way.

Wish we were a true democracy, but I suppose I'm being ideological..........

... just wondering, which unions are are actually stuffing up the middle class by getting their way?

Going on the Royal Commission the CFMEU is no exactly looking after its members. Rather more interested in feathering its own nest and that of the Labor Parties.........

The unions are lining up in Victoria now to get 3,4 or 5% p.a increases because their mates are in power down here and they feel they were dudded under the Liberal Government of the past few years. I have heard that from a senior Union official's mouth.

Any increase over 2.5% is going to be surplus to the State's budget and the money will come from somewhere. It will either come from cuts to health, education, police or infrastructure projects or it will lead to lower surplus or a deficit. It will happen and we are seeing just the start in the transport arena. That will affect the middle class.

I haven't got enough knowledge to know who deserves more money and who doesn't but my gripe is that the Trade unions don't care about that. Their aim is increasing wages no matter what and whilst the Labor party is in bed with trade Unions they are compromised in having real arms length negotiations. In essence to me there is enough connection between the ALP and Unions to make a case that the ALP Government should not be a party to Public service wage negotiations because of a conflict of interest, they are negotiating with their biggest member block and financial supporter base.

Unions are middle class beasts. As is the ALP. Birds of a feather. It’s a middle class club giving itself a pay rise. No different from any others feathering their own nests.

Don’t know anyone who would knock back a pay rise on the basis that it might be detrimental to a socio-economic class, the state, the nation.... or the next door neighbour.

Shame for the nation though that the union movement provides a never ending source of political duds for the ALP.

Unfortunately the people who will really do need a pay rise are the battlers. And there is an awful lot of them living from week to week working on a perpetual casual basis for low wages with zero security and next to no representation. No weekend dining at shopping centres for this lot.

agree

on this though:

You reckon its any less of a shame for the nation that cloistered private school hooray henrys also provide a never ending source of political duds for the LNP?

Either side, they're mostly lawyers who started as student politicians. We need more real people in politics.

um, like Palmer, Hanson and Lambie ?

…in politics I think ‘real’ refers to politicians with the vision and talent and will to make our society a better one. At the moment, and perhaps Turnbull may prove to be the exception I don’t know, but we appear to be overwhelmed with bums who will leave no discernible legacy.

Albanese maybe as well.

The bums will leave a discernible legacy. Unfortunately it'll be one that despite all our efforts to forget, we'll have it shoved in our faces for decades to come and there will be no escape.

Nice to see Abbott working hard in the media. Who said he was going to go quietly ?

Well, he did. But did anyone really believe him? Depends, I suppose on wether that statement was scripted or not...

i dont think a puff piece in the OZ and an interview with Hadley constitutes working hard.

His promises not to snipe at the Liberals who tossed him out lasted about as long as most of his others.

Coined the term "worst PM in history" then managed to live up to it. :hihi

Get the distinct feeling that Labor is well and truly up against it now. While Shorten is improving, it looks like Our Mate Mal', is actually doing some positive things and making some positive changes.

Yep, going to be tough for the Reds.
