Talking Politics

I don't agree with the entire libertarian world view but some of the warfare/welfare state stuff is compelling. And corporations do call the shots a lot of the time.

It doesn't really matter how hamstrung Turnbull appears, he will still take care of Shorten in an election.

Labor needs to make a move and do it soon.

Problem is, Shorten is hanging on by not doing much.

I think the problem is no-one is doing much.
Lots of hot air, promises, and every day "another day older and deeper in debt" (*)
(*) I wish I could remember which song this line was in. Anyone know?

Yeah, treading water. I'm hoping an early convincing election win and ability to pass bills in the senate will see Malcolm doing some serious stuff.

At the moment he's keep things safe in order to win the next election and his detractors in his party have too much power. If that can change then I reckon he does have the ideas and convictions to make a difference

16 tons and wad ya get?

Well that was a well planned and executed move by Malcolm in the Middle. Underestimate him at your peril. Looks like his biggest challenge will be keeping Abbott in check.

Typical of these hypocritical Liberal 'leaders'.

Well-planned and executed for sure, but the right move? Immediately put the Greens and cross-benchers offside - which may give him DD he wants, but its still cynical and will be read as such by the electorate. Still a long campaign too, which can hurt. Even longer if the bill passes the senate. He's also put his treasurer offside and has to contend with Abbot doing what he does best, destroying.

Labor and Shorten have actually been making a few good punches recently too - and the longer we go in a liberal policy free-zone the closer it will get. Would be an upset but don't count Labor out just yet.

its interesting how people observe things. Turnbull is more of a progressive thinker that has been massively hamstrung by the conservative faction of the LNP. this will be his undoing for mine. the LNP would be far better off returning to the centre-right party they have always been before Howard took over.

while a double dissolution and an early election is turnbull's best chance at keeping power, I am confident labour can grab the 17 or so seats they need for power. never been a fan of shorten, but he has done a decent job in recent months.

gotta laugh that the DD trigger might be related to the return of the building and construction commission. you can say what you want about CFMEU... they are far from perfect, but clearly the LNP haven't learnt that attacking workers rights is electoral poison.

MitM will be fine. He'll run the show with majority in both houses, increased majority and hopefully the lunatic faction will have diminished power.

He has handed the balance of power in the senate to the Greens. No way either party gets a majority in the senate imo.

I reckon she's evil in a political sense and that's saying something. Awful piece of work. She is for herself and her party rather than the people of this electorate. If she gets in I might have to move. :blah

I'm still shocked that Abbott would hold back on a pork barrel announcement in a tight seat until after the election. I thought he had an extreme case of premature electionpromise

she's nasty. Really nasty. Always comes across as if she wished she had a machine gun on hand to shut people up who don't agree with her.

Hope she's shooting herself in the foot when she tries to belittle Cathy McGowen and goad her into petty bickering. Thankfully Cathy is made of far better stuff. This is a strong Lib electorate but Cathy is very well respected across the board.
