I'd be surprised if the AFL hindered us from signing a sponsor without any attempt to make things right.

When they veto'd Sportsbet as sponsors, they pushed their two approved bookmakers in our direction and pretty much ensured one of them matched Sportsbet's offer. Luxbet did.

I can't imagine any club accepting the AFL doing this nor would I expect something like Kennet to keep quiet about it even if it happened to another club.

Pretty sure they vetoed our planned sponsorship with Tiger Airways because it was a conflict of interest with QANTAS - at the time the leagues preferred airline. Still don't know how the filth managed to retain Etihad as their sponsor. Different rules for them I guess.

How so ? March mentioned that Tiger Airways have been approached but they don't see the value in sponsoring an AFL Team or it's ground/facilities.

As for the filth, they have Emirites, not Etihad. Emerites do not fly domestic routes so they are not in competition with QANTAS/Virgin. Tiger do fly domestic so there would be a problem.

But both QANTAS and Virgin fly international routes, different rules for different clubs... but who cares? I just want a major sponsor announced soon

Virgin will be a club and AFL sponsor once the QANTAS agreement ends, no overlap.

Did Denham suggest we'd been scuppered skipper?
I didn't get the sense that anything sinister had occurred, merely that the Skoda had gone with GWS.
Bartlett didn't seem on very sure footing to me and didn't make a big deal of it after Denham said that.

Our admin are under pressure to find a sponsor regardless. Hope something is announced soon.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I'll jump in.
Denhams said that we were looking like announcing skoda as our major sponsor when
someone in the Afl stepped in between.

His words were "unfortunately for the poor Tigers, they were headed off at the pass".

Sorry for the late reply To0,But i read it as exactly what General is stating,That we were Bent over by the AFL.I know its BigFooty but there was a post/Rumour a few weeks ago regarding the AFL stepping in which cost a club a potential Sponsor[No Club mentioned].If it was GWS who beat us to the punch then fair enough however with the AFL stepping in then its an absolute disgrace.

You're right. I just happen to have the Skoda Marketing Manager's business card too so maybe I can express my displeasure there too

Its not unusual for clubs to be persuing a sponsorship from a company at the same time and one missing out (same thing happened with Mission Foods not long ago where Melbourne and Western Bulldogs were fighting it out).

Putting myself in the shoes of a Skoda exec, I can see why they would see more value in being a naming sponsor of GWS as opposed to us, very much doubt that the AFL would have had any inteferance in the process and will wait to see some firm proof that they did before becoming hysterical!

Unbelievable if true.

The AFL's disdain for the traditional clubs and its preferential treatment of the new clubs is staggering.

THe dollar sign rules over all.

That's the way of the world.

Every day I get calls about upgrading gas or other BS.

The world is full of Greedy D's.

Probably dodged a bullet anyway.

Why would we have Skoda sponsorship when Nissan has been a strong ally?

Vlad the Nazi is a closet totalitarian (see fascist)

If you need anymore proof then see his recent appointment to some Climate Change group...the natural home for communists, fascists and socialists is the climate change movement and Vlad is knee deep.

It depends when they want exposure. GWS doesn't play AFL next year so they aren't going to get much exposure from them until 2012.
Given they are trying to build their brand, it would want to be a very cheap sponsoship this year which then will ramp up in 12 months

Sponsoring the RFC would be more exposure, but it would also be a much quicker return on their investment. They would be supporting a club with a much bigger supporter base also.
