TDS amnesia? Nah that's just old age G :)

This post on p64? You replied to Lee, not me. Possibly I referred elsewhere to Syria/Ashad/Trump? Trump's complicity with the Ashad regime, ceding the country effectively to Russian influence is well-known.

Take your point that you were critical of Trump for being a "statist" so that is a critique. Actually he's not. He's all about himself and how much money he can make - the tools of state are just one means to this end for him. Again, as a Libertarian, I think you should be far harsher on Trump for this.
I believe our Syria discussion was on the terrorist thread. Point is I’m no Trump fan, far from it. But I’m not a fan of him for the same reasons I’m not a fan of the vast majority of politicians. Most criticisms of Trump on this thread miss the mark. If this thread was full of Pro Trump types instead of pro Bernie types then you would be accusing me of supporting the democrats.

So if it was on the Syria thread, say that.

Most criticisms of Trump here do not come from a Libertarian perspective, but that does not make them wrong. This is the problem with a "one-true-way" approach - anything that is not that, is wrong. All you can say is "he's the same as the rest" or "he's a statist". Clearly he's different to most politicians, and above all else he is a mercenary, corrupt, crony capitalist.

The Trump diehards on here Lee, Djev, the mysterious blofeld, Tiger-Harley-Guy have never accused you of being pro-Dem so that's way off as well.

100% agree. 20 years ago, we were far more tolerant, and hate was generally in the closet. Now the opposite is true because these people have been enabled thanks to the rise of the alt-right.

I believe its internet amplification of the far right.

they've always been there, and they always will.

but they used to have to wear white hoods and meet by flaming torch light under bridges.

now the *smile* write half the worlds newsfeed.

and ordinary peoples brains are going mushy under the weight of the complete *smile* burrowing in through their eyes.

Take as an example, the term 'woke'

specifically, it refers to a dawning on black Americans of why and how they are disadvantaged.

less specifically, it refers to a calibration of the moral compass.

But far right amplification of bull crap has appropriated it and redefined it as a pretty pissweak insult, as if your moral compass pointing in directions other than North, is a good thing.

to the point, were a non-nasty, ordinary person, will call you 'woke' if you give a homeless person $2

Mass Democracy I'm calling it. it's a by-product of mass culture, mass information, etc..
like Ezy is saying: the brain receives an info overload, and some of these brains aren't meant to receive certain info let alone an overload...
it speeds things up when things ought to be slowing down - and the morons in the press, and in power, enable this ..
it's really dangerous territory, humanity needs to be very careful, ... full of care ...

I’m a Trump die-hard? I don’t even support Trump. He lost me during COVID and in not conceding the election. I’m just conservative.

I do understand why people of faith might vote for him as they are regularly kicked around and spoken down to by the left. They are also unbearably smug and arrogant. BUT to be fair they are also often correct about social issues and who is on the bottom and needs support. I just wish they could find something less divisive than critical race theory to drive their politics.

I am looking forward to Biden as president and hope he stays in the centre and governs with civility and decorum.

Arguing if its a coup or not has the effect of diminshing it. A coup but disorganised and kinda bit of fun?

If it wasnt a coup, then it was a *smile* nasty riot at a highly significant and almost spiritual place (for Americans)
- people turned up for battle. Military kit such as kevlar vests, hemets, nightscopes.
- bombs were planted at other buildings (dem and rep national offices)
- rioters invading the building with automatic guns, other weapons and zip ties
- caches of weapons were found afterwards
-cops were bashed, some to death.
- a gallows was built. Maybe symbolic but obvious references to the threat of hostage taking

That makes me pause for breath.
Imagine this happened in Australia.
Or imagine that a politician was taken hostage.
It is outrageous.

Coup or not, this was out of control.
With extreme violence in some quarters.
With clear threat of further violence aimed to intimidate politicians.

Though not all protestors were actively illegal lets not reduce it to a walk in a building.

And Trump sent them on the short walk from the rally to Capitol Hill with.........."these people are not going to take it any longer, they're not going to take it any longer." ringing in their ears.

Fair enough Djevv, your posts are always opinionated but fair.

Not referring to you, but interesting to see how many erstwhile supporters and enablers are jumping off now.

... know what you mean, it’s really common. Seems to depend on how deep you journey down the internet woke or far right rabbit hole before your ‘you gotta be shittin me this is so *smile* bogus’ mechanism is tripped. For the most woke and committed Trumpsters it’s already been disabled. It’s too late. They’re gone. Lost in deep anti-cerebral cyber space.

Back in the day you had to really commit to become totally delusional – catch freezing cold trains in winter, join little clubs of kindred spirit, attend meetings, dress a certain way, read lots of long boring boring books etc etc. Now La La Land is just a few clicks of the mouse way…. and suddenly you're there...

yep. its a kind of cyber brain disease Im pretty sure.

Im no neurologist, but I reckon you could MRI QAnon brains and show some significantly different stuff to a sane persons brain.

serious question: WTF didnt QAnons catch proper institutional pedophiles in every Parish of every town? They didnt have to look for tunnels under Barack obamas place, they just had to pull back the curtain in the confessional box at their local church.

NSW Police now have a 'fixated persons unit' (This is true)

dedicated to pursuing cyber whack jobs.

(fingers crossed they never happen across kangaroo karaoke, or pseudo-intellectual cyber outlaw threads)

That’s due to how social media AI algorithms work. Once you show an interest in a topic you start getting more of the same until you are inside an echo chamber.

Have Big Tech considered changing how these work I wonder?

There is no money for the Tech companies if they keep showing you leading you to stuff you have no interest in. By focusing on what you've shown interest in, then adding that to your online profile that has all your connected history, they display stuff to you they think you would also find interesting.

Their goal is to keep you online, viewing stuff they serve up, to collect the advertising revenue. Advertising that is targeted to you based on your profile that advertisers have paid for.

I just did say that, geez you sound like my wife.

I don't understand your "one-true-way" approach problem. I think I go to a decent level of explanation of when I disagree with someone. I don't claim to be right simply because I argue from a libertarian viewpoint. I argue I'm right using logically consistent arguments, happy to be shown when that's not the case as I'm not infallible. Sometimes arguing the point helps to articulate your understanding better. Sure Trump is different to most politicians, but my argument is that is it is a difference of style not substance. Most politicians are mercenaries, most are corrupt and most are crony capitalists.

For every claimed Trump die hard on here there are three times as many that are hardcore anti-Trumpites. They are also much louder and they love to pump each other up and tell each other how right they are (sometimes I dabble in that too but there are seldom opportunities!) My point is if the situation was reversed, I would be accused of being pro-dem.

I’ve listened to a few episodes of this podcast on this topic. Pretty interesting stuff - essentially fake/crazy stories keep you watching longer so sell more ads. So if you like planes you get shown planes, then stuff with planes crashing, then stuff with 9-11, then 9-11 conspiracy theories and then I guess you turn into a nutter. Sorry no someone espousing contested facts.
