Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

Can he tackle? If he's half as good at tackling as Cyril it will be a joy to watch.

Maurice was right up there with the best tacklers ever, Cyril not that far behind either.
On the other hand Dean was only ever seen tackling hamburgers.
Hopefully Daniel takes after Mr Magic.

Tigers threw the previous R1 solid citizen/player selection policy out the window with Daniel.
Clearly a premium was always going to be paid given his surname.
A high risk high reward pick.
Daniel has the footy skills - i just hope he wants it enough.

From the Richmond website article from what our recruiters said.

"He loves to tackle, averaging five per game at TAC Cup level, with highs of eight, eight and nine. He has great speed, endurance and recovery."

Wow! A couple of sidesteps he puts on in his highlight package are so Maurice like.Amazing.

We could have something special here!

That's music to my ears. Next question, can he star jump?

Interested in what you mean by this. How do you know Daniel isn't a solid citizen? I would have thought that given he elected to come to Victoria to play football he's actual shown he's prepared to work hard, and get himself out of the comfort zone to succeed. There was an article about mental toughness, and I'd have to say that the type of ballsy approach he's shown is definitely ticking the solid citizen box.

In terms of solid player selection policy, I'm guessing you mean that in terms of risk? Maybe the recruiting staff think with his football skills and athletic capabilities he's actually low risk. That's probably hard for us to judge.

You could say that Conca was a risky selection (which appears to be backfiring), Lennon I think we can say was best available, Ellis best available and Vlaustin was risky given his lack of athletic skills (but not risky given his personality). What I'm getting at is, we may need to challenge the solid citizen\player selection model as one the RFC ever decided to take, in the way us fans have interpreted it.

Now as one of my mates said to me, I wonder how long it's going to take for Dimma to bury him in a back pocket as a development neeed?

Loved his interview.

Q: 'what can fans expect?'

A: 'just break the game open and kick some goals'

That'll do us

Just hope we can be patient enough and not expect him to produce Riolimagic from day 1.

That said, still ranks below Relton Roberts in talent for tackling hamburgers. Relts has him covered in this department.

He wasn't number 1 because his fitness (endurance) tested badly. Everyone saw his skill, but he would likely never be able to play midfield, or impact a game for 4 quarters.

It was a quite accurate concern, in hindsight.
Good points. And it's not as if Hawthorn haven't tried Cyril as a midfielder. And has never really able to cement himself there. Partly to do with dodgy hammies, but also the obvious points made above. Remains essentially a specialist small forward, albeit a super one.

With this all in mind, perhaps there is scope for Daniel to one day move into the midfield on a regular basis, given that possesses some of these attributes that Cyril does not.

There is so much comparison to Cyril and Maurice - i just dont get it! I wish i saw more about how good his actual footy was rather than his bloodline or speed/athleticism.

They are good numbers.
The stats might slip a bit as he puts on muscle

got to remember his testing was so good in numerous areas , if you didnt look at any games , he would on testing alone look the number one draftee this year, his ceiling is so very high, so high that anything is possible and i,m much happier we got rioli over ah chee as only a small amount of his talent has surfaced so far, will improve big time in afl system.
