Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

Should have been in the guts months ago, but definitely as soon as Dion went down. Missed a trick. Should be Plan A next year.
Not sure if this is so realistic because I think it's been tried to some extent and showed, while Marlion has the hardness at contested ball, that perhaps his anticipation skills and reflexes are not sharp enough like the Neales, Prestias and Cotchins specialists at AFL level. He moves very languidly and cruises into the spaces available on the wings, back or forward like a V8 that needs room to hit top speed, not a zippy sports car.

But the biggest problem is the frees the umps love to ping him for. If Selwood was still playing in '23, Marlion would be penalised soon as he stood next to an umps' fave like Joelong or Neale/Petracca.

With him and Nank in there together ... just imagine the negative clearance diff.

I've just finished reading Marlions book "Belief".

What a story & what a life he's led, so far. So inspirational for not only Indigenous people but for anyone from any walk of life & situation.

A truly remarkable man.

Marlion you are a hero in my eyes.

Congratulations on winning The David Mandie Award

I can't say I ever get that emotional from reading, but there is one passage in that book that made my spine actually tingle when I read it*.

Related by Anthony Van Der Wielen. Marlion's manager. After everything Marlion had been through, and when it looked like it just wasn't going to happen...........

"Blair Hartley of Richmond had texted. Tell your boy to pack his bags. He's coming to Tigerland." P.234 (Hardcover edition)

* Footnote: Australian Playboy May 1985, the edition with Kimberly Geary in it. That really made me tingle, although not my spine!

Yeh I love that album but the bloke is a prick
Don’t know him well enough to level that sort of charge against him fastin, but the interaction I had with him certainly fell short of civil. A real shame, I thought.

Believe it or not it actually did! He might hate the media still but he can handle it now when it is unavoidable.
But still doing his absolute best to avoid it. Actually, I don't blame him at all for hating them and treating them so after the way they have covered him, looking for dirt and salacious gossip, sensationalised material to attack him.
But his refusal to communicate with RFC members and fans, missing the B&F etc. remains disappointing to many.

To be fair I met him only once and was not happy with his behaviour towards a friend so perhaps such a sweeping statement is not appropriate.

Richmond should be talking with Private Schools ( Melbourne Grammar , Scotch , Xavier , St Kevins) or who ever we have connections with to get the pickett boys scholarships.

Most Private Schools offer indigenous scholarships and wouldnt be hard to convince them these boys will be playing AFL in the future and these schools love their boys becoming elite athlete's that promote their schools

I think 3 of the Rioli’s (Cyril, Daniel and Maurice) went to Scotch. Didn’t Shai also attend a private school in WA on a football scholarship?

Daniel went to St Pat's Ballarat. Winters would have been a shock for the Tiwi lad!
