Anyone noticed a subtle change in the running events. White guys come 1-2 in the 400m. Australia has men in top 8 of three running events, 200m, 400m and 5000m. Smells like the pharmacists have fallen behind the testers.

Personally love watch the track competition, especially the tactics of the marathon, and long distance races of the 5000 -10000 metres, but I do love watching the sprints and the 800 & 1500m.

Our best chance for gold is the Mens Pole Vault in Steven Hooker

best chance for medals are
Craig Mottram 5000
Paul Burgess Mens Pole Vault
Nathan Deakes walk events
Kym Howe womens pole vault

should be finalist (or top 8) and possible medallists
John Steffensen men 400
Scott Martin shot put
mens 4X400 relay
Sarah Jamieson womens 1500
Benita Johnson womens 10000
Jana Rawlinson womens 400m hurdle
Jane Saville 20k walk

Fortunately Athletics Australia is getting its act together with more world medal hopefuls than previous years and hopefully continual improvement for Beijing.

Will write more later on

Tyson Gay upset Asafa last night in 100m final.
Asafa didnt look comfortable at start with his singlet out instead of tucked in which is unusual and was sweating while Gay was pretty relaxed.
Great 1-2 in the mens marathon for Kenya (2nd though now represents Qatar after being traded to Qatar)

Great effort from Jana, she struggled with some short steps on last hurdle but toughed it out well for gold.
Buster ran around well not exerting himself to qualify for the final.
Hooker into final for pole vault.
These two along with Deakes in the walk are our best chances for medals.
Disappointing for Steffenson to miss final by one spot, hopefully a better prepartion will get him there in Beijing.
Great stuff to by AA selectors to select Jana in March with no runs under belt to be in the team for world champs knowing she will do the job, much better selection policy than swimming australia.

Great effort by Deakes in the 50km, the Italian bronze medallist wasn't happy and cracked them when he crossed the line.
Good luck to Buster tonight, I hope it is the one win for Geelong.
His race is on at 2030 so watch it.

There was high hopes for her, but don't know if she will ever get to the highest level. Would be great if she could, hopefully in 2008 Olympics.

She's had injury problems and change of coach so she is hoping to be back to her best by summer season, is also facing tougher competitors now as we had two runners in Osaka in the 1500. Still has plenty of age on her side.

Mottram ran a solid start, was at front for a bit, but the slow pace must of got to him as he couldn't quicken up with the others, ended up a long way back.

was real disappointing, wonder if he was fully fit as there was a hamstring rumour a week ago or struggled with conditions, should not have fallen off the pace with 3 laps to go when they are running at 71sec laps. Hope he had injury concerns as if was conditions it will make hard in Beijing.

Honestly is it any wonder people don't pay much attention to athletics results anymore? :thumbsdown
