You've missed the point. We play chaos ball. Expect the unexpected at all times. The handball went straight to Ellis. As usual he cr@pped himself under the slightest feeling of pressure and coughed the ball up which ended in a goal to the opposition. Most of our players would have secured the ball that hit them on the chest and forced a ball up. No excuse. You can forgive the odd occasion but Ellis is a regular under pressure. You have to be better in finals pressure or you'll get punished. Whether Baker made the right decision is a totally different discussion but we should remember that was just his 20th game and first final ever.

It's more the fact that he's worth more to another team than to us, depending on needs, the list, salary cap etc. Brando has skills and talent, no doubt, and weaknesses too. But he's been a valuable player.
Bellis is definitely a fringe player these days. Last year, he came 26th in the best and fairest (on a votes per game basis).
If a winger in the VFL has a big game on Saturday, Bellis might be in trouble to retain his spot.
Personally I would be playing Menadue and Kmac on the wings this Saturday and see if they are up to it. I wouldn't worry about Naish or Turner at this point as they are unlikely to get a AFL game during the finals.

The RFC had a magnificent 47 point victory over a very good opponent in a hostile environment in the QF. The club is now in a preliminary final. The club has won 10 games in a row in a brutally tough competition. The club has won 34 of the last 37 games at the MCG. The club is a very good chance of winning a premiership this year (even with Ellis in the team, as selected by the RFC match committee). Perhaps you could just try to enjoy the current situation and success of the RFC instead of torturing yourself (and the readers of the PRE forum) with your apparent negative obsession over Ellis.
I think Ellis stays in as there is no obvious in-form replacement in the VFL - Kmac hasn't done much, Menadue is OK on recent form but would you trust him in tough prelim against the Weagles?

Could be argued he/MC did make a panic decision 2 finals ago.
The only possible change is Kmac for Brando. But, as you say, he has not set the world on fire in the VFL.

Most of what Ellis does is just run. No one sees the hole he takes, the second option the oppo must take.

That's why I'd like to keep him and finish off with us, but ....it's his choice. No big loss in the overall picture.
Playing Dusty in last year's PF was the right decision, you don't leave out your gun player if he can possibly play in a PF. Yep, a risk, but you need to take risks in finals. Imagine if we left him out, in a game where the prize is a spot in the GF. Wouldn't have won the game anyway, we were off and Collingwood were really good.
The thing with Ellis is that he is very variable, he needs to be harder at the ball and he had a howler last week. But there simply isn't anyone putting their hand up for his place so I figure he stays in. Someone would need to play an absolute blinder to drop Ellis, and you can be certain Ellis is getting pressure from the coaches.

Any expert on here prepared to take a stab at what sort of compo pick we'll get with that offer?
Very similar to what K-Mac does in terms of defensive gut running to structure. KMac is an enigma, sometimes a huge doofus, sometimes looks a million bucks. But unlike Ellis he makes others fear him.
If Ellis leaves I wonder where that leaves KMac.
