"I understand the pain that people are feeling. We support the right of peaceful protesters, and we hear their pleas. But what we are now seeing on the streets of our cities has nothing to do with justice or with peace.

The memory of George Floyd is being dishonoured by rioters, looters, and anarchists. The violence and vandalism is being led by Antifa and other radical left-wing groups who are terrorising the innocent, destroying jobs, hurting businesses, and burning down buildings."

I'm not sure how much more statesmanlike he can be. And if the underlined word gets an appropriate response, so be it.
Trump's comments are about 4 or 5 days too late.

Some of it is justified and some of it isn’t.

There is no doubt that China deserves criticism for their very initial response to COVID-19. No one can be be sure but my suspicion is that they intended to cover it up because they believed they could deal with it and it backfired. That would be fairly typical behaviour for that regime.
Some of the rhetoric now is OTT though imo.

Given the disastrous global results resulting in death & poverty for many affected nations as a result of their lies & mismanagement, on the contrary I think they're getting off lightly.

BTW I'm as critical as anyone of Trump but China deserve plenty.

Was he chasing the kid with a sword or a skateboard? Either way nothing justifies the mob thuggery.

The kid was carrying a skateboard, the attacker was chasing him down the street with a sword. *smile* stupid thing to do in the middle of what's going on.

Not to defend Trump too much but to be fair the WHO was painting a picture that everything was under control at that point when clearly it wasn't & there lies the issue.
I think you're defending him too much. He was getting feedback from his many advisers and he and his people knew this was going to be bad. Why would many who were in those initial briefings sell stock but not act on preparedness? He advised Israel and they leapt into action before the US did. It was obvious he did not want to spook the market. HE put the economy above human lives and is now using the WHO as a convenient scapegoat.

We can cherry pick a trump tweet when he has pushed the right message.
Its akin to a Corey Ellis pass.
Looking at the overall picture, the trajectory the momentum.

He doesnt miss an opportunity to blame someone else.
Deflection. It's no surprise that he announced the cancellation of WHO funding on Friday, and the space program yesterday.

And support for peaceful protests?
Remember how vocal trump was when the NFL quarterback was kneeling during a song (sure the national anthem but its still a song). Same issue of cops killing people when arresting them.
Didnt the president support peace then?
He was vocal and strident and shouted down the protest. Nope.

It is no surprise that riots occur when the peaceful protests are shutdown and the issue not resolved. Eventually it comes out of the pressure cooker
This is a lesson for all countries and leaders

To be accurate, as others have said the issues are long term and existed long before trump.

Slashing the NASA budget was bad news. Americans are rightly proud of their space program. It's not a decision he'd have wanted to make after re-invigorating US space exploration.

Kaepernick's gesture was unpatriotic and *smile*. I'd hope any Richmond player doing such a thing is shamed and discredited.

You're justifying the inexcusable. Are they man or beast?

There's many parallels with what is going on now and what happened leading into 2016. They've already raised that 80% of those arrested are linked with white supremacist/right wing groups. You can bet that those involved are taking lessons from the Russian misinformation play book if not being assisted.

How Russian Trolls exploited Phil Castille death

It's also interesting how trump and barr have come out immediately to blame left wing groups. Barr's DoJ is so politicised. Where was barr when armed right wing groups stormed government buildings?

I don't know why I upset myself following this crap but since trump announced he was running for pres I've watched and read daily this car crash in slow motion...

Interesting preliminary autopsy finding.
A preliminary autopsy report [showed] that there were "no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation."

The report said that it was the "combined effect of Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions, and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death."

Floyd was 46 when he died. He had underlying health conditions, including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease, according to the report.

Can't comment authoritatively as I've never been there. There's always been an undercurrent of tension that erupts periodically. They let O.J. off so the public wouldn't burn Los Angeles to the ground.

Yeah, it's complex. Coppers are being shot or run over every week in the US. Most of the bad guys have guns and some good guys have guns. If they're trigger-happy or hyper-aware of demographic factors, who am I to judge. It's not a job I'd volunteer for. I don't know for sure but have long suspected it's too easy to become a cop in the US. There doesn't seem to be the same respect for police as here.

Likewise, coppers are always shooting crims or suspected crims. They shoot twice as many whites as blacks. If you're unable to protest peacefully then maybe you shouldn't choose to engage.

On the other hand, the lot of blacks and other minorities improved steadily under Trump until the Wuhan virus. I reckon it's a bit like feminism - they're still angry even after they're wearing the pants.
Even Martin Luther King suggested riot is the language of the unheard. You don't get what's going on and that's ok. Tension erupts because this *smile* keeps on happening and nothing has improved and definitely not under trump who is a supporter of his white right wing groups.

Maybe the agitated can be placated by executing the cop without trial? Who needs laws and courts when the mob speaks loudest?

Cops have been executing people without trial for decades in the US, but no, we still need an trial.
