11-11-11 about to tick over here and not so much as a mention in the newspapers. Is it a victim of cancel culture? We get a story about the lefty folk hero murderer Kelly, though.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Imagine Van Diemen will be calling for a war crimes review of the Anzacs next

Can't work out if Trumpy is (a) just stalling to grift as much as he can, (b) to save face (while losing more face), (c) no-one has the balls to tell him its over, (d) or they are seriously setting up for a coup aided and abetted by the SCOTUS.

Slightly worrying he just fired the entire civilian leadership of the Pentagon and replaced with cronies.

All so predictable - just like the Presidency, the end-game is a total cluster-farrrrk.

stories suggest one of the reasons is to keep raising money. Trump is asking for money for court challenges, while the fine print states that money can be used to pay election costs.

Looks like he has kept his word on one thing, he said he would drain the swamp.
He neglected to mention that the swamp was being replaced by a sewage farm

Pretty clear signals here that the US will support Taiwan under Biden.

On the other hand, Trump abandons allies like the Kurds whenever Uncle Putin asks him to.
I once saw a former White House Security advisor interviewed on the topic. He was retired Military brass who had worked for the Obama administration. The interview was early on during the Trump Presidency.

They posed the question to him, what would the US do if push came to shove over Taiwan. His response was that it was useful for China to think that the US would intervene militarily in a physical sense. But reading between the lines he seemed to be suggesting it was bluff.

This he noted was essentially a bipartisan policy of what he referred to as more conventional Presidencies (as in, Obama, Bush, Clinton all held very similar positions). So what you see in Biden’s messaging isn’t so much a definite “we are backing Taiwan if it came to the absolute worst.” But it’s a return to the messaging of previous Presidencies, just trying to sow seeds of doubt in China’s mind.

In the interview he was deciphering between what he called “conventional” Presidencies and a Trump Presidency. He commented that the same assumptions are all thrown out the window under a Trump Presidency. On national security Trump was so inconsistent, chaotic and incoherent there was no way to possibly predict what his policy was towards Taiwan. It would probably depend on which way the wind was blowing on the day.

And that is the consistent account of Trump on security policy from a range of military brass who have worked closely to, or in the White House with him. Even those of the more hawkish-right wing mould were very alarmed by how superficial his understanding was on issues to do with security. And how he appeared to have little interest, desire or attention span to delve into and actually understand in any depth, the ins and outs of foreign and security policy he was being advised on.

Another theme I’ve been surprised by of late.

How some Republicans who seemed sane previously seem to have swallowed the Trump cool aid and totally lost their marbles and entire credibility.

Take a bloke like Rudy Giuliani. Sure he’s a Republican, so not everyone will agree with his Politics or all his policy positions. But in his time as Mayor of NYC and even running as a Presidential candidate he was largely viewed as a moderate Republican of pretty conventional and sane mind.

Since getting involved with the Trump administration though, he just seems to have got increasingly interwoven with Trump and his cronies and is just defending the most bizarre, indefensible positions. Makes him look like a total fruit loop.

Then you add the Borat hand down his pants on his *smile* incident, together with the press conference outside an adult porno shop and not even the creators of South Park could make this *smile* up.

Look at Graham and Cruz how they've backflipped from nevertrumpers to trump enablers. Apparently the Republican server was also hacked in 2016. Perhaps someone somewhere has loads of kompromat on these guys. It's the only way you can explain it.

Rudy is a semi-functional alcoholic - apparently he's been deteriorating for the last ten years or so.

Arizona is done.

Rumours that Trump is giving up on 2020 and already talking about running for 2024.

The legal cases look pretty much like junk. I guess the main risk is that he somehow drags things out, states don't certify the votes and state legislatures send "faithless electors" to the Electoral College. Bit of a stretch. I think the pressure internally in the GOP and business will start to lean on him to move on.

He probably wont give up yet, because the fundraising for his court challenges double as fundraisers for this and potentially the next election. and by not conceding, it allows him to continue to act as President and make decisions an outgoing president wouldnt normally make at this stage.
