China

A domestic wine and lobster glut straight after a premiership

Is pretty fortuitous.

Ask not what your country can do for you
Unfortunately most of the lobster boats tied up immediately after the exports got refused. More likely to be a shortage in domestic supply than any glut.

I’m not on twitter so not sure if it’s possible, but can anyone reply to the CCP tweet? If so I suggest posting undoctored pics of the guy standing in front of the tanks in Tiananmen square in 1989, followed by a pic of the Dalai Lama, then another of the Taiwanese national flag..let’s see how they react to real photos

They seem desperate to draw the attention of their citizens away from something. Lashing out in all directions, tantrums galore, threats, slurs etc.
If all those countries cease ANY dealings, not allow their citizens to travel to those countries, close them to the outside world , let’s see how long it lasts....

They unleashed a’ virus’ and seem to be coming out of this better while most countries around the world ( a few ) through fault of their leaders are in a world of pain and they want all of them to bow to China’s demands or else....

Australia should open its doors to other dealings , other countries, as many as possible, other Asian countries and look for other partners in all matter of trade.

The pain short term will be great I know but we just can’t allow China to dictate to Australia and bully us and other countries thinking we can’t come up with other partners to have trade agreements with.

Notwithstanding China has a huge hold on us and most countries and this is what they are banking on. That we and others will bend to them and for them to ‘bend us over’.

About time Morrison grew some kahunas and told them to F off.

Announce that we are willing to do trade ( favourably ) with other countries and we no longer want any further dealings with them.
Send their Chinese advisors back.
Every country should do the same.

If ALL countries UNITE as they have done in the COVID investigations against China ALL countries in the longer run will be better off from the clutches of the Chinese Government.

**That’s their reasoning in all this.
The deflection.
So their people don’t find out that it was their own country that unleashed COVID and didn’t care how many people die, not only in their own country but how many would die around the world.

Let’s see how their countrymen like the fact NO other country will allow them to come abroad to any other shore, to invest, to buy etc....**

And you know why this won't happen? Too much money to be made selling stuff to China. Top end of town won't allow it. And too many people will lose jobs. And too many Australian citizens still want affordable phones and flat-screen TVs.

So Morrison will rattle his sabre, China will do the same, it will blow over but in the meantime China will continue to sink its capitalistic hooks into developing countries around the world, and there will be economic benefits for those countries, and for the elites in those countries, but they'll have to give up a little economic and political independence each time. China also continue their suppression of their own citizens and the Uighur people and Tibet etc etc. The US will continue its gradual withdrawal from being the world's no. 1 power.

Basically we are effed, and that's not even taking into account the fact the planet and the climate are going down the toilet as well.

COVID-19 was in Australia before China, originated in India, Beijing now claims

Chinese scientists are now claiming COVID-19 originated in India and then spread to Australia, before emerging in Wuhan in their latest attempt to shift blame for the pandemic.

According to a research paper from the Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences, the virus was present on the Indian subcontinent before the Wuhan outbreak in December, however the theory has been debunked.

The paper titled ‘The Early Cryptic Transmission and Evolution of Sars-Cov-2 in Human Hosts’ was posted on the preprint platform of highly respected medical journal The Lancet.

Headed up by Dr Shen Libing, the research claims that by counting the number of mutations in each viral strain the first outbreak of the virus can be traced to India and Bangladesh.

This was due to India’s young population and extreme weather conditions including a 2019 summer heatwave that forced humans and animals to drink the same water.

The report goes onto to claim the virus emerged in Australia, the USA, Greece, India, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia and Serbia before China.

“Our result shows that Wuhan is not the place where human-to-human SARS-CoV-2 transmission first happened,” the paper reads.

“Before it spread to Wuhan, SARS-CoV-2 has already experienced adaptive evolution during its human-to-human transmission. The positive selection sites could contribute to the different clinical features of different SARS-CoV-2 strains. Both the least mutated strain’s geographic information and the strain diversity suggest that the Indian subcontinent might be the place where the earliest human-to-human SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurred, which was three or four months prior to the Wuhan outbreak.

“Our study helps to elucidate the early cryptic transmission and evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in human hosts and provide the new thinking for the global management of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Beijing has previously said the virus originated in the US and the UK.

Well if that's the case, they have nothing to worry about with an independent enquiry into the causes of COVID19.

Problem solved, no need for tariffs and sanctions.

Exactly.
Their human right behaviours are ‘shocking’ to say the least.
Hypocrites.

What they are doing is essentially trolling Scomo, and it worked, he fell right into their trap with his response.

it is outrageous, the leaders of a country spouting lies, or alternate facts, to stoke tension for their own benefit.

a leader of a western country would never behave in such a way, and if they did everyone would call them out on it.

Precisely. He's playing to his audience, completely ineffectively, with no thought as to the damage it is doing.

Last week it was Italy, prior to that it was the US. Now it's India.
Seems their "research" isn't much good if the conclusions change by the day.

If 13 soldiers is all it takes to condemn Australia and all of its people, beliefs, ideology and future then other nations better get in line for their talking to. China might want to bring a comfy chair.

Now a leaked report/document that China tried to cover up the COVID outbreak in Wuhan.

Surprise surprise.

’Community ambassadors’ linked to Chinese Community Party

Tom Minear
Herald Sun
December 1, 2020

Two senior figures in organisations linked to the Chinese Communist Party’s foreign influence operation were chosen as COVID-19 “community ambassadors” by the state government.

Arthur Wu and Junxi Su are members of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, part of China’s United Front, which the Communist Party describes as “a bridge and a bond for the party and government to connect with overseas Chinese compatriots”.

The Herald Sun can reveal they were selected by the Andrews government to deliver Chinese-language coronavirus health messages to Victorians. They received $400 gift cards in return.

Communist Party interference expert Professor Clive Hamilton said the appointments meant the Andrews government was “giving legitimacy to them”.

“They now have the government’s imprimatur,” he said. “The government is entrenching the influence of the Chinese Communist Party in Melbourne’s Chinese community.”

But the government defended the appointments, arguing the pair were trusted community leaders.

“Our community ambassador videos have done an amazing job reaching out to their local communities with vital health advice, recognising the only way to beat this wildly infectious virus is by all Victorians working together,” a government spokeswoman said.

Mr Wu is also listed as an executive vice-president of the Australian Council for the Promotion of the Peaceful Reunification of China, which experts say is the top United Front organisation operating on our shores.

Ms Su, a deputy mayoral candidate in Melbourne in 2016, has also served as the head of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Victoria since 2014.

She has supported China’s disputed territorial claims in the South China Sea and criticised federal government laws to tackle foreign influence.

At the start of the pandemic, Ms Su dined at a Chinese restaurant with then health minister Jenny Mikakos and other Labor MPs to support the Chinese community.

She later told The Australian newspaper she was not particularly familiar with the United Front and it was not “very active” in Melbourne. “We don’t have much contact with them, probably one or two people,” she reportedly said.

Prof Hamilton said while the federal government was trying to suppress foreign interference, “the Victorian government appears to be supporting it”.

“United Front organisations in Melbourne aim to present China’s regime in the best possible light and to silence dissenting views in the Chinese-Australian community,” he said.

“For critics of the CCP in the community, speaking out just became that little bit harder.”

The Herald Sun was unable to contact Mr Wu and Ms Su.

Did you see jackie lambi on ABC talking China?

Normally i dont mind jackies calculated forthrightness, but this was pretty naive.

She basically goes 'tell em to get stuffed, what have we got to lose?'

I thought to myself in response to the rhetorical 'um, NT, WA, and QLD?'

Trolled alright.

honesty is generally a good trait in politicians, but so is the ability to think before you talk. Lambie fails on that measure.

I reckon Jackie thinks. Shes occupying Xenophons populists niche, with a military personality. She knows exactly she needs to stay left of Hanson and right of Hanson-Young, and that

'calling a spade a spade', 'straight shooting', 'saying what the people are thinking'

Are her stock in trade and equal votes.

The concern is our leader isnt diplomatically sophisticated enough to realise the antagonistic tweet came from a Chinese version of jackie lambie, and the chinese may not realise jackie is from Tasmania.

Im quite astonished that morrison would react so strongly to a cartoon

I think its a flaw of modern democracy that leaders arent considered in the context of how they will manage a pandemic, a war, a catastrophe.

We elect the bloke who looks least uncomfortable sipping a schooner.

Don't know who advises him on his responses but they need to be sacked.
Going on WeChat and appealing direct to the Chinese people?
That will be labelled "Interfering in China's Internal Affairs" and the response will be more pain.
He needs to just shutup.

What comes after late stage Captialism Karl? Also just for your own benefit, capitalism is the private ownership of the means of production. It is not the Chinese government doing economic deals in exchange for sovereignty.
