Draft prospects 2020

Granted we didn't get to see any Vic players this year and considering they contribute the majority of the players, I'm pretty underwhelmed with this years crop.

The thing with that competition loss is we are denied the chance to judge the back half of the draft, you know the surprises, the 'with a bullet' types that make their run late.

This inevitably means we can assume up to pick 30 or so but then it dives fairly deep into an abyss of hope.

So much for this year being a super draft.... never is... unless you count 2001.

Another thing I noticed this year is that a lot of them have funny gaits. I noticed this in Azerbaijan when I visited many moons ago. A kind of John Wayney thang... just a casual observation, nothing more, nothing less ;)

I count 2006:
Jack, Selwood, Hawkins, Goldstein, JP Kennedy, Gray, Edwards, Boak, Houli, Grigg, Reid, Frawley, Tippett, Gibbs, Westhoff, Jacobs, Suckling, Harbrow, the Brown twins, and a few others who had handy careers.

I rate 2018 up there too.

Interesting to see Matt Nicks has come out and more or less said Adelaide will take Ugle-Hagan with the first pick which will mean the Bulldogs match him and the Crows go to pick 2.

You'd be sideways if you were the kid they are going to take with 2 given the number 1 pick gets a $10,000 investment portfolio from the AFL amongst a few other financial advantages.

Pretty strange move to gift a bonus to a player you have no hope of getting instead of giving it to the player that you hope will stay on your list for 15 years.
I bet they don't.

I reckon it’s smart to bid at one on JUH.

1) if he is the best player, history vindicates you. If he’s a bust you get off scott free.
2) Takes the pressure of being number one off your pick.
3) If your player bombs, everyone says they wanted JUH.

The more I keep looking at things the more I’m convinced we go mid because there is a glut of B+ mids in the 15-30 space.

But none are jumping up at me. Maybe because it’s the first year I’ve seen nothing live but I can’t get hyped about anyone that could be floating around our pick.

What's everyone's thoughts on Caleb Poulter landing at the Tiges? Idk enough about him but what I've seen from his highlights and stats/write ups he's underrated and could end up being a gun

Agree, if I were Adelaide's first pick I'd be happy to lose the $10k if it meant I wouldn't have to carry the pick 1 tag and the associated pressure that comes with it for an entire career. That money can easily be made up over the course of a career without the added pressure. History has proven it has been a curse for most number 1 picks

Flip side is the no.2 pick doesn’t get the same scrutiny as no.1. much better if its a developing tall that needs a few year

Yes, looks like a ripper. Reading all the reports on him he has improved enormously this year, probably due to growing into his body more than anything else. Reminds me of the Bont.

Yeah I was thinking an eccentric explosive version of Pendlebury

His highlights are all open play. For a big mid its not an inside contested bull set of highlights.
Its more of loose ball link work type stuff.

Now that could be
A. Highlights only show half of it
B. WAFL is more open
C. There hasnt been enough footy played
D. I know nuffin

but it left me thinking meh. He is tall but not physically imposing.
Its probably D

Hopefully the crows select UH at one so that the dogs have to burn all their draft picks

Thank god they have changed the rules going forward on 1st round NGA's, apparently Ugel-Hagan has 3 or 4 younger brothers.

O,Driscoll would be very good imo.
He comes across as similar to Jack Graham in application - inside mid with high contested and tackle numbers, runs super hard defensively. Good size, brisk across the lawn.
Its a safe pick but he has performed well throughout juniors (was all aus in u16)
A proven footballer, whats not to like

Do we do well with players names starting with O??
O'Reilly, O'Hanlon, OhhPettifier??

I hope clubs start bidding for these *smile* academy picks so we end up with a pick in the teens.
Sydney's kid should have a bid.
Then we want a club to bid for the port and GC kids and then we want someone to bid for the Collingwood and Brisbane kids.
Are we the only club not a have a academy? This is the biggest load of shiit ive seen. A club that just finished 6th will get pick 1.
Why dosent Gilligan and that stupid clown Hocking Foff??

P.s I reckon Dougal Hagan Pagan is another flopped pick 1.
Anything Bryan Sheehan says means shiit. The old knob once said Pettifier was captain material and Conca would be a dominate midfielder.

Nathan O'Driscoll for me, if he's not on the board, Jack Carroll.

If Reef McInnes lasts until our pick we'll have pick 21 in this draft. (Provided we bid and Collingwood matches.) And that looks a distinct possibility given the vagaries of this draft and the touted draft orders by those with no skin in the game.

But it does look like 20.

I've removed Davies from these ratings as he's prelisted by GCS. He's not in the draft. Twomey rates him 16.

Edit and now Joel Jeffrey also prelisted. (Thank you to @King Kong.)

Edit again and thank you to @caesar for the Gulden and Downie information. Amended.

We might bid on Gulden. And then, if you allow for the two GCS preselections, our pick 17 has become pic 24.

Collingwood must bid on McInnes. So he slips if he reaches them. Then we have to bid. And they match.
