RD 15 Crowds Update

Wow just wow!!! Just a tad conservative

Crowds of 25,000 will be allowed at the MCG and Marvel Stadium this weekend, as the government baulked at the AFL’s request for 50 per cent capacity for Round 15.
Health officials will on Wednesday reveal their magic formula for the return of sporting crowds after Melbourne’s fourth lockdown, with outdoor stadiums set to be limited to 50 per cent of their capacity, with a cap set at 25,000.

It means the MCG, which can host 100,000 patrons, will be 25 per cent full, while Marvel Stadium, which has room for about 57,000 fans, will be at about 43 per cent capacity.

Indoor stadiums will be able to host up to 5000 fans, which will apply at John Cain Arena for Melbourne United’s grand final series against Perth Wildcats.

The Victorian government’s decision to unwind the stadium capacity formula will allow 50 per cent capacity at AAMI Park for Sunday’s A League decider, with 15,000 soccer fans to pile into a half-full stadium.

So when this government make their decisions, do they pick random numbers out of a hat, or close their eyes when throwing a dart at the board?
They must have asked the AFL for help. Looks like how the AFL come up with compensation picks with their formula

25,000 is a nice round number. A made up one. Not based on anything other than optics.

If it was based on science the crowd limit would have been 24989, or 25013, or 25031, or 25033, because the virus can't handle prime numbers.

Neither can humans, which is why this *smile* Venn diagram of contagion has persisted.

But no one's even talking about prime numbers. It's a conspiracy.

25K in a ground which can handle 100K just seems a bit silly.

I figure this is based on ability to contact trace and the like but people are prevented from moving between sections and it is outdoors.

Meanwhile, those in New York are vaccinated and had 20k at the indoor Madison Square Garden for a Foos Fighters concert (very jealous here).

I just wish everyone would *smile* remember this next time they vote.

Biggest problem with that is Michael O'Brien. He is an awful leader. Been in the job for what 3 years and half of Victorians don't even know who he is.

There is no logic to these decisions. How can you have 25k at both Marvel and the G? It can't be based on social distancing? Another ridiculous decision from the Vic government in a long line of ridiculous decisions.

There's a lot of whinging going on here lately about crowd numbers. Personally I'm grateful were allowed to go to the footy at all!

Most of this should be taken to the politics thread anyway.

I think people are overreacting a little bit. sure, 25,000 is low. It probably means I miss out on a ticket for Friday (after my conversation with the club yesterday). But at our next home game in 2 weeks, it’ll probably be 50,000-60,000. And hopefully no more outbreaks means a full house by September.

Based on last Thursday, one thing we can be assured of is that it’s definitely not based on social distancing.

Wonder if they will pack the crowd all into one end of the ground.
