Was just pondering how in a progressive liberal democracy like we have we can accommodate toxic minorities like anti abortionists, religious fundamentalists, anti vaxxers etc but how they should never be allowed to impact society's trajectory forward.
Wonder how many anti vaxxers ever imagine what kind of society we would be experiencing if most Australians were like them or if their position is entirely dependent on riding the coat tails of a highly vaccinated community.

Covid-19 infections spiking again in Europe (paywalled)
Coronavirus is surging again in Europe, which ... saw a seven per cent spike in the number of new recorded daily cases over the week but the situation has been worsening on the continent for nearly two months.

Austria on Friday said only those vaccinated or cured from coronavirus would be allowed to frequent restaurants, hotels and cultural venues as the Alpine nation battles a surge in cases.

“No one wants to split the society, but it is our responsibility to protect the people in our country,” he told a news conference.

Another wave commencing.

It because we are a progressive liberal democracy that "toxic" minorities are accommodated.
In other regimes toxic minorities are found in gulags, re education camps, or mass unmarked graves.

More like in other regimes the toxic minorities are in govt and the moderate/ intelligent liberal masses are in the gulags.
Obviously I am referring to the extremes.

I’m not sure what the corresponding timelines look like when you compare NSW and Victoria where vax numbers to case correlation is concerned, but NSW is down to 187 cases today. Victoria is still in the thousands despite strong vax numbers for some weeks now and 84% double vax presently.

What’s going on in Victoria relative to what we’re seeing in NSW ? Shouldn’t we be seeing a far better case and consequently hospital and mortality rate by now ?

Our peak of cases (24,993 on 25/10) was just over a month after NSW peak (27941 on 09/09), and our total vaccinations (10,156,138) are about the same as what NSW was just over a month ago (although we're very close on doses per population).
Even though our cases are still over 1000 a day, active cases continue to drop, and Reff has been under 1 for over two weeks.

VIC has had lower hospitalisations per case than NSW during the current waves. Hospitalisations and ICU numbers are 2-3 weeks behind NSW trend

This is the final piece for back to normal. If the vax and this pill can't save you then something else would have eventually got you in the end. An expert was on radio saying boosters should be for elderly and vulnerable. More focus should be on educating people on living a healthier lifestyle.

i wonder if anti-vaxxers / COVID hoaxers who end up with COVID will reject this pill or not when it's offered to them?
"Nah, give me Ivermectin instead doc"
Probably. Then go and load up on a heap of backyard CM or Ec tablets or some synthesised medication of some sort.
